I can see clearly about the principles that you were talking about! amazing!how far up did this team make it in their championship?
The highlights are from two seasons with two almost completely different teams. The first team lost in region quarterfinals; was a borderline top 25 team nationally. The second season ended with Covid.
@@BrianMcCormick thanks for the info
Why is it called anti-fragile offence?
Antifragile comes from the title of Nassim Nicholas Taleb's book, and means something that does not merely withstand a shock but actually improves because of it. A team or offense that improves when playing in chaos rather than order.
@@BrianMcCormick nice .. approach!!

May his cherished and memorable soul ever rest in the bosom of the Lord.
I have been using the Serbian Shooting drill for a few years now and think it is the best shooting drill I have ever seen to replicate game-like shooting. A few things I have changed that I suggest coaches try: 1. We play in teams so that it is competitive. 2. It is a timed event: each team is on offense for 3-5min then switches (if you have an extra player, he rotates in on offense after each bucket for the shooter). 3. Defense can score points - 1 pt for a tip, 2pts for a steal. (tip then a steal would be 3pt play) this keeps the defense trying for the full 3 min. Because our office uses passing and relocating, you can only get the pass back once you have a paint touch after a pass, then fill it out somewhere else.

I noticed that the second example the ghost screen to back door DHO is against a 1-3-1 defense. My youth basketball team is struggling against 1-3-1 defenses. Do you have any suggestions for actions that would fit within your SABA principles?
This is my zone go to: czcams.com/video/Exx7sMP8ZYQ/video.html Basic idea is to create an advantage for the first pass. Four high should create an opening vs 2 or 3 defenders. Ultimately the goal we want is to create the 2v1 in the key or move defenders from their zone to create a wide open C&S 3.
Where are the boxes? How many?
You can see the cone by the volleyball line and the lane line. Imagine a line from sideline to sideline through that cone, and a line from baseline to half court through that cone, and the same on the right side of the court. That creates six rectangles.
Thanks a lot from a coach in Switzerland huge fan of Manitoba clinics
That is a great drill I love it

Just finding your vids…these are really great! Thank u for taking your time to do these vids, they are helping even all these years later :)
Thank you very much!
Hi Brian. I like the 1-4 action you show in this video. Have you run this against a 1-3-1 zone? If so, do you have video of it?
I rarely see a 1-3-1. I would run it against one if I faced one, but I know I do not have video against a 1-3-1.
Thank you or the reply@@BrianMcCormick
Doesn't look like fun at all. especially for the girl in the middle.
What small-sided games did you use to get players to play defense like this?
Almost finished with my next book, which hopefully answers the question in more depth. We start with a lot of 1v1 full court, 2v2 Rugby and 3v3 Hockey Rules. Mostly, it is encouraging aggressiveness and to trust themselves instead of worrying about being correct. czcams.com/video/E5dqoXeWUk8/video.html czcams.com/video/JgErE5VaQuo/video.html
I use 3v3 hockey and 2v2 rugby a lot with my 5/6 grade team. One of our struggles is to matchup on defense in the front court and I think it may be because the players are struggling to scan the court effectively. Do you think allowing them to trap in the front court is developmentally appropriate to improve the player’s ability to scan the court? Do you have any suggestions for other small-sided games to help players matchup on defense?
@@eriklyall2108 Maybe Tip Transition would help as there is the uncertainty of offense or defense...also, 3v3 in HC with our playmakers rules (similar to FIBA3X3) with no checks force the quick pick up or the other team is shooting or making a pass out then in for a layup. Not the exact same as the FC, but teaches the same idea. Tip: czcams.com/video/HuQJ8dcLLaQ/video.html 3v3: czcams.com/video/eKWBMu9FHS0/video.html

Great idea. Thanks.
this is a great offence
2 ankle breakers like that IS WILD 🤕 Lot of skill!
They were switching everything and we were trying to get a screen to attack their weakest defender who was in foul trouble, but she just went ahead and attacked their best defender. 🤷♂
Can u please explain this drill? Thanks
1v1 from half court. have to get two feet in the paint (doesn't always happen). once attacker gets inside the three-point line, corners cut. player in the key steps up and stops the ball or doubles the passer. pass to one side. other side defends the shot. It's primarily to practice accurate passing off the dribble under pressure.
With younger players, I've removed the on-ball defender. player attacks, defender in paint must stop ball and attacker makes an accurate pass. one catches and finishes, the other defends. can also do it with stationary players on the block waiting for the pass to catch, pivot and score.
Thank you Coach @@BrianMcCormick

Nice action.
ok
Do you use a play call for every unique action out of the 21 set? or do you call the set as a whole and players react to make the best play possible
No. It's just "21" (which players call; I don't call plays except out of timeout/quarter), and players read whatever is available. We have many more options, but most of these games (U18) were not recorded.
appreciate it pips
I am doing something totally different from what he teaches

Do you believe one is better than the other? On such a long closeout she should've never used that type of choppy step closeout, also the idea is you run closer, then choppy steps leaning slightly backwords then use momentum to jump to contest. But on such a long closeout she should've just sprinted and jumped on shooter's shoulder, and then hussled her way back.
Yes. Don't stutter step.
@@BrianMcCormick seems like sprint and stop takes more athletic capacity though. Also, don't stutter steps give you a better chance of adjusting the close out with small step redirections, and then react with another to catch up to drible penetrarion with reactive feet? Idk, its worked for me my whole life
@@mcfuckinanotheraccount808 Do offensive players sprint and jump stop?
@@BrianMcCormick Yes, but when they jumpstop they are probably finishing with another jump, or pivoting. But i mean it also kind of depends of the technique behind the jump? Is a sprint and stop closeout jump done in the same way (technique, angle of force and momentum), as a offensive player's jumpstop on a drive? And also, another question is, i coach women's basketball and they are unathletic, should i preach jumpstops? I do and i explain the value of it to then, but they have complained they could twist their ankles doing it. Im referring to offensive jumpstops here.
@@mcfuckinanotheraccount808 A jump stop while controlling the basketball and with the constraint of traveling is more complex than a jump stop on defense. I don't even know how to answer a question about a jump stop and sprained ankles except to add that in a study of NCAA Division 1 players and jump stops, a high percentage landed incorrectly (heels first).
I love it
Tbh you can do both, it’s good to have both and be comfortable especially in a real game
Hi Brian McCormick. I like the movement. Can you explain a little bit rules of the drill? I'll be grateful.
Fives spots on the floor outside the 3-point line. 1 point for every pass completed to these spots. 3 points for any pass completed inside the restricted area. Change possessions and play on turnover.
Thanks a lot. 💪🏻🏀👍🏻

3 for 11 as a team. I am guessing this was a rough season.
Always a funny guy...First, not my team. It was a clinic. Second, typically a very good team and coach. Finally, I believe 3 future NCAA D1 players were at that clinic.
Quick description of the drill in the comments would be awesome
Love it. Do they have a choice to switch directions of the screen (pindown/back pick) and do you force them to pass the ball across the top or can they make entries to the screener?
There were no restrictions. Truthfully it was more to practice defending screens, as we don't set many pin downs and don't face many, but we were going to play a team who screened more off the ball. Typically I do not restrict, but when it's introduced as screen down, that narrows their focus...when we play it a little more live, we do a better job of seeing the options like the screener, and if I had a team that didn't, after a bit, I'd ask questions to introduce other options. These were pretty much the first few reps of the first time doing the drill.
@@BrianMcCormick Thanks Brian.
@@rileyspetz5066 np.
To begin the drill, are all teams starting at the same cone?
No. 6 spots. One spot between each group. So Group 1, open, group 2, open, group 3, open.
@@BrianMcCormick great, thanks!
What is the 1 second rule?
Brian, can you please explain the rules of this drill/SSG?
A simple competitive passing drill. Player with ball calls a teammate's name. That teammate must get open. Complete 7 passes in a row to win or complete 7 passes in a row and score a basket to get a point.
What are the rules ? No dribbling The ball must move from one side to the other If you miss the rebounder pass out to the player on top and it continues ?
2v1. Hard to tell, but there are three 2-player teams. Defender's teammate is at the cone. Defense gets a stop, outlets and plays vs new defender. Offense scores and stays on offense vs new defender, but must clear beyond the volleyball line (cone). No dribble.
How is the new defender determined?
Looks really useful and engaging. Problem for me is I’d have 7 kids standing around. One practical barrier I face is having to calculate rotating players and time management in one hour practice.
If they go 2-3 times, they'll need the rest..or each group can go up and back once and switch.
Bryan, never seen anything so pointless.
Thank you. Please let KD know too: czcams.com/video/xDc7_OblnBQ/video.html
Description in comments would be awesome
18 players. 2 teams (black and white) divided into 3 groups per team. Each team plays on one court: Main Court, Side Court 1 and Side Court 2. Players can be involved with any of the 3 balls, but they are restricted to their court boundaries. You'll notice that toward the end, a white player on the far side court steals the ball from a black player on the main court, leading to a transition basket on the main court.
I love watching these short clips. Is there anyway you could explain the rules in the description or maybe link to wear we can find the exact game? Just helps to understand what we are watching a little better. Thank you for sharing!
I made an inference - the players are allowed to score on any basket however the opposing team cannot score on the same basket that the previous shot was taken from. I like how there is an unpredictability to the game as it can help players who are not confident with their dribble make an easier path to the basket by deceiving the defense. I also would add that off a steal the players are allowed to score on any basket regardless of where the previous shot was take from.
These are part of the Playmakers League curriculum: playmakersleague.com for more information. This one is simply FC 2v2 and either team can score on the middle basket. Goal is to make it easier to find open shots for younger players who struggle to shoot from distance and against defenders. Also works 3v3.
Lov3 it!
