Use Your Practice Ground As A Golf Course - DWG
I naturally do this. Probably stems from my baseball days. I've had people tell me not to do it in my golf swing, but keeping my heel down feels stiff and unnatural.
At the tender age of 70, I was trying this very move out in my backyard net in order to facilitate a better backswing turn, and was getting superb contact and great strikes. Decided to look on CZcams and low and behind found Dan's video and confirmation that this does indeed help in the backswing. Like everything else in golf I found many other opinions that were contrarian , but the proof for me was in the pudding. IT WORKS! Thanks from a Nova Scotia subscriber. Cheers.
Can this go on a driver?
That’s not long thumb, long thumb is finau grip with thumb perpendicular to palm
I’m finding that a good swing thought is to really complete my follow by continuing with my right side rotation. As long as I feel my bellybutton rotate away at the start of the backswing I can be fairly sure I get loaded into a good position to start the right side movement. I was dragging my left arm before, but now it’s just there for stability.
Thanks.
I’ll be trying this today with the head cover thx
A strong grip can also have an opening effect on the clubface going back. Surely a strong grip, with a cupped wrist, will therefore require less manipulation/swing speed to square the face at impact?
As a kid, many moons ago, I figured out on my own that a bowed wrist could cure my slice. Unfortunately, I didn't figure out (or realise) that I also had an OTT swing. I've spent my golfing life fighting a steep swing pull-hook as a result. Do I move to a stronger-grip cupped position, as my swing speed is diminishing, rather than persevere with the bowed wrist. Love your videos!
K....Ok
Would it be good for juniors starting out?
Club face where does it go towards to target when grip exit left?
Great bits!
Is it path or swing direction that needs to be left for downward iron shots?
Not sure if you’ll see this, but I’ve kept his video and use it often. Thank you!
When I golf I just turn off my brain and just swing the way I do in practice like today I thought I was on hole 4 but I was on 6 😂
Dan, getting the elbow on the right hip obviously shortens the radius between the body and the circumference of the arc, so how do you get the club head back on the ball instead of missing on the inside of it?
Thank you! I have been telling my current golf coach that my body will not let me get into certain positions due to my barrel chest + years of bodybuilding
As I stated in one of your previous videos, I used both methods. The "new release" is more accurate but it doesn't create as much club head speed. Using the "new" release I average about 125 yards with my 7 iron but with my older release I average about 155 yards. The modern players create power by dropping down on their downswing and then pushing up with their legs. However, learning this method requires a lot of work, I'm not convinced that the average golfer can dip and push off like the pros do. Many youtube golfers say "This is how Rory does it...." However, 99% of golfers are not Rory and they make it to the range 2-3 x weekly and therefore they can't put in the same amount of practice. I'm not sold on this method for the average golfer, it may make them more accurate but they will lose many yards unless they learn push off with their legs.
I've done both. However, the "new release" is more accurate but it is a slower release therefore you will have less distance. I hit my 7 iron 125 with the "new" release and with my older release I hit it 150 yards.
Weird review at points. I understand some things but not everything he says makes sense. I'd say the club sucks inside cause it's bent. This device could definitely help people who are just learning or have never felt true impact before and maybe for advanced golfers not a full speed swing but half speed 50 yd shots prioritizing mechanics while just trying to feel that impact position at the bottom. There's also a non bent shaft version that I think Dan would prefer and would be more useful for advanced golfers.
Holes out from 60 yards with no reaction, I have much to learn
I’m having a hard time attaching it to that grip
Great drill! Is this good for all clubs especially woods?
One of the best videos on the subject. Thanks, Dan!
Great video Dan
Every time I try this I just can’t get the club to the ball , I always nearly chop the ball in half and top it to high heaven
Great to see you back. Look forward to your new content.
Will this help with squaring up the face on the down swing
Hogan said he was much better in 1948 although arguable because of his 1953 record. I agree his swing looked better in 1948 but he got better at playing golf post accident which as we all know there are the infinite variables to deal with.
I gone back and forth, bowed wrist is fine but my ball flight is much lower as you said. It lands harder and rolls out. So, depends on the course. I use it for low irons mostly
Check out the right sided swings for the best right side hitting
Thanks for this video! I play with a strong grip and have been considering changing it after seeing multiple videos on how detrimental a strong grip is for your swing so really appreciate this video Dan
people dont realize traditional swing, they square the club going to impact and release or roll it after impact. The key word here is after impact they roll it. They are not rolling it before the impact.
Similar to Faldo's most famous drill He said this was the foundation of his swing You can actually PLAY w this swing
Excellent t thanks Dan
Disagree, even Tiger says light is right! Tension is directly related to grip pressure. You can’t have tight grip pressure and relaxed forearms. Centrifugal force will increase pressure on the downswing, starting out tense will never allow a player to play fearless golf and swing target focused and balanced
I believe that his secret is how he swings his lower left wrist bone into the proper impact position.
Great video! I get the plane advantage but why is it an advantage to set the wrist hinge early in the back swing? Thanks.
He said he never swung any better than he did in 48. That's what he said. He was never better than he was before the accident. So the swing that you keep saying is so screwed up is the best swing he ever had. He just happened to have a car accident that made him change it.
Dan, how long should the guide remain engaged to the wrist on the downswing? I have a big casting problem and I don't want to disengage from the guide too early
Good stuff, thank you.
The past few years after golfing for 30 years I've developed a sore left thumb. I believe I took the grip for granite, the left thumb became long and disconnected. By really concentrating on connecting the left thumb and thinking about the three pressure points, I have much less pain at the top of the swing. Thanks Dan!!!
but if it says you hittin fat, what do you think you would do on real grass, you would be hittin very fat
This is a warm up club designed to remind you what the impact position feels like. I don’t understand what you’re doing with it. This seems pretty dishonest since you didn’t even try to use it to teach impact position. It also clearly demonstrated a fault in your students backswing that was barely noticeable with a normal club. Not what it’s designed for, but something the curved club does.
i don't get it. how does that translate injto actually hitting the ball from a normal address position? unless you are suggesting acyually hitting the ball in that manner?
Ok, so… I came across two videos on CZcams a few days ago. One video was a tip for tall golfers to stay more in balance throughout the swing. The other video was this one. Although I have a good turn, I’ve never felt like I had much torque build up. Then I tried the corkscrew tip here with the feet… and oh my goodness, what a difference it has made. Both videos have had a serious impact on my swing. Thank you for posting this one. 👍🏼
Great knowledge Dan , will this stop my reverse pivot I’m suffering with, thanks Kevin.
l just started the strong grip last weekend at the range and WOW WOW WOW. Thanks for the great video.
Great video Dan, just found your channel so hopefully you see this comment. Really interested in how this works with 5&7 woods. Cheers John
