When we were getting ready to for our 6th grade “graduation”, we were having a talent show. This was the song we chose (and everyone was on board with it… including the Principal). One of our classmates came to school and shared that her older sister told her what the song meant. Our teachers scrambled to pull the song out of the ceremony (and replaced it with Carole King’s I feel the earth move from her very successful Tapestry album). We were so innocent then. So much has changed. I heard this on the radio today and just had to look it up. Good memories.

What really bothers me is while the newer DVD and Blu-Ray releases of this movie (starting with the 2002 DVD onward) restores all of the original songs used, they replaced most of the original crowd noises (particularly during the climatic dance competition) with newer, more generic stock ones. Worst still, I think the original "unaltered" audio track with all of the original music and crowd noises is lost. I just wish Paramount would find go back and restore the "original" 1977 audio track for the film's 50th anniversary release. Either that or have someone do a fan reconstruction of that audio track using various VHS' from the time.
