    The introductory remarks given by the host seem to come from a scattered mind with a biased introduction. Dr. Arathi starts off assertively by stating that sanatana dharma is not patriarchal and goes on to say why she thinks so. But when it comes to her statements on enjoyment, the podcast becomes weak due to the digression. Without a proper treatment of the concept of enjoyment, she should not have brought up the topic of enjoyment. Then some more poorly worded remarks by the host on choice-based architecture (strange terminology!). Dr. Arathi makes some incoherent statements negating the host. Again, blame someone else for our mistakes, Bollywood, ads, etc. In fact, generation after generation ignorant of the dharma, what else would you expect of incompetent/ ill-prepared parents raising children? Dr. Arathi gives her life story at length, but it is not convincing. The perspectives given by Dr Arathi are, in my opinion, not impactful. Trying to explain “why it is so” is a failed attempt. What is needed is to point towards a long term, well thought out process of educating people of the dharma needed in practical life. Sorry to be critical of the podcast that is for the first 28 minutes. The rest of the podcast on examples of historical women with significant roles to play shows the breadth of knowledge Dr Arathi has. I think other than showing “how great we were”, it may not serve any other purpose. It would have helped if giving one or two good examples with some depth and relevance to the modern woman. Please come prepared to these podcasts with something substantial to give. It will require preparation, lots of preparation on the part of the guest. I think Dr. Arathi can do a good job with preparation, particularly her breadth of knowledge is impressive. The host needs to prepare also with a few good questions, but in addition, be a good listener, more disciplined, and not interrupt the speaker.

    100% agree with the guest on most matters! Undoubtedly, Bharat has had a glorious past not only spiritually but also materialistically speaking. But, I’d like to point out the stark disconnect between how people lived in the past versus what the Indian society has currently become! Children of today are not so foolish (there are always exceptions everywhere) so as to not see the disconnect and pose questions that are haunting them. But, are the parents equipped to answer ? For example, would Indian parents teach their children how to make good decisions in their life versus making those decisions for them?! Parents are driven by so much ego that they cannot let go of control. Everything must be done for the sake of keeping face in the society, especially, everything a woman does has to be in a way that does not spoil her marriage prospects. Where is the scope for experimentation, trial and error? Are we allowed to take risks? Can Indian moms handle failure of their kids? They’re so strongly identified to everything in the material world that they cannot even let go and surrender to the divine! So, you see Hindu philosophy teaches surrender, letting go, and accepting the Maya so we learn our karmic lessons, and that every individual soul has free will and only comes through a womb - how many Indian parents can accept this that their children are NOT their property especially the girl child?! There are so many horrors in the Indian society (happening within families) that we’re pushing under the rug here. I’m talking about the emotional violence happening within families in the name of so-called relationships, extended family, culture, traditions, and honor. Are the so-called Vivahas of today the same as the Vivahas of the past? Are sexual/romantic/emotional/intellectual compatibilites taken into consideration while arranging marriages today? If couples are unhappy in a marriage, can they easily come out/face the society in a middle class family?! There’s also physical violence and there are honor killings (NOT talking about the Islamic community), for example in Tamil Nadu when people want an inter-caste marriage, they get murdered by their own family! I’d say we’re still firefighting, so many current issues need to be addressed first. Otherwise, we run the risk of becoming irrelevant and outdated. How can Indian history and spirituality be relevant and useful to the current generation (in their current environment) is a great starting point, in my opinion. We need to acknowledge the weaknesses and horrors of our current society first, cannot cherry pick! I believe there’s hope for Bharat! 🙏

    • @bhardwajutkarsh
      @bhardwajutkarsh Před 3 dny

      Yes it is for the most part. Women are more important or at least just as important in shaping the world of today and tomorrow. How we speak, dress, eat, our lifestyle, these define us and shape us. One can do these in accordance with Manav Dharm or against it and that will decide the well being. While I agree that men should wear dhoti more especially where the weather suits well, there is no doubt that women should also wherever it fits well. Btw pant was given to Europe by Sanatani Mahakal Bhakt Changez Khan and Jeans was first made in India among many other things so there is no hard demarcation as western or Indian. I think we all should try to set free of the mental shackles that were put by colonisers and missionaries, once that is fully done and we know 110% that we are not acting as slaves, we can choose freely. Current generation has to do a forceful reversal because we were manipulated badly, be it convent schools, Urduwood, American commercialism, brown Sahebs, Urban Naxals, Communists. The oppressed-oppressor glasses of commies worked better in agitating and uprooting “oppressed” so yeah women were easy targets as they were decided to be the oppressed ones due to the olden traditions. Well they were oppressed due to the changes and adaptations brought in by the invading cultures but blame was shifted artfully to essentially their own people.
