I find this depressing due to a sense of loss of better times, but also as those better times were themselves a bit depressing in terms of aesthetics and the limited scope of living. For me the 90s and 00s were ideal but I'm probably biased as that's when I grew up, however Skippy is from the 60s/70s and I don't find that depressing, quite cheerful actually. A Country Practice is more of a serious affair, everything feels heavy, even when the characters are making light hearted conversation I still feel like something isn't right, a sense of foreboding.

I haven't heard that theme song for over 50 years. Born in '63 there wasn't a lot of Aussie shows/movies that centred around kids in my age group. Certainly Skippy and particularly Storm Boy and Careful He Might Hear You come to mind. This triggers a lot of positive memories. Thanks very much for posting the video.

Like a different planet. And now for 2022 high school drama we have Euphoria. In 1974 I was in 6th class. I loved this show, although it curls my toes now 😀. Now in 2022 I've just retired after teaching in high schools for 33 years. 1974 almost seems like a dream. Surely no 48-year time period on earth has seen such change. Thanks for uploading!

I came here from the Tina Bursill interview in smh. I was born in '62 and only vaguely remember The Godfathers, but I do remember The People Next Door. I remember being quite taken with Tina Grenville, and now I remember why. Fifty years on and this seems like another planet. Ties on taxi drivers, cardboard boxes, men interacting with boys without concern, Mr This and Mrs That, and homes smelling like ash-trays. Thanks for uploading!
