The government has suffered a humiliating court defeat after it was found to have unlawfully discriminated against thousands of severely disabled people who were left financially worse off after moving on to universal credit. The court of appeal dismissed a challenge by the Department for Work and Pensions to two previous high court decisions that protected claimants in receipt of severe disability premium against a drop in income under the new benefit.

😳 when you do your research on Universal Credit and you see the comments in regards to their personal experiences...my theory is this your experience may not be the same as others. Just live your experience and don't expect worse or better off. Just appreciate every moment

No, doesn’t make people better off in work than out. If on esa then move over to universal credits so can work 20 hours. Only better off if they move you over as transactional protection. Tory government are a joke and anyone who voted for them

I can't find one single person claiming UC that says it helps them. I'm willing to accept that maybe all the horror stories about people being made homeless because of Universal Credit or forced to commit suicide aren't the complete truth, but where are the people on UC who say it helps them?

The website is kinda useless, I can't change my work status. It doesn't let me register my income and the number of hours I work at my new job. (rubbish).

What this video doesnt state is if the amount you'll be getting through universal credit will be similar or (as I fear) far less than what one currently gets. I'm all for pushing people into getting jobs but its not as easy as that. Making them wait 6 weeks for their 1st payment is also a blatant push into forcing them into taking the first job that comes along. Which job makes you wait 6 weeks for your 1st wage? why cant people continue receiving their current benefits during that 6 week period?

I'm trying to find a job to proof to my parents that I'm independent but having no luck. Anyone got any ideas for what I could hearing in mind I'm 14 and live in England

Proof of 35 hours a week jobsearch. Weekly visits to the jobcentre. Sometimes 2-3 times a week. Jobsearch at the jobcentre (Proof of minimum of 4 jobs applied for during that jobsearch) Various work programmes / cv workshops. After a period of time you will have to do voluntary work. If you refuse to do any of that you could be sanctioned. Sanctions can last 6 months to a year without pay. Welcome to Universal credit.
