OneMind Dogs is a method of dog training that emphasizes the connection between dog and owner and communication based on body language. The method originated when the founder's Border Collie became deaf, and the founder learned to communicate in a silent language. At OneMind Dogs, we focus primarily on training people rather than dogs and teach from the dog's perspective.

    Great webinar. This is very helpful info. I have a beautiful schipperke, what many trainers consider an ‘off breed’ for agility/rally/performance spots, and she definitely has bouts of ring stress. She does some of the behaviors you describe but mostly breaks off into uncontrollable zoomies. I’ve already started the pre-trial repetitive prep and delayed treats and I definitely want to try some of your other suggestions. If you have any advice specifically for stopping zoomies please let me know.

    What if your dog does an off course or just goes completely away from the handler? Guess it's me (not the dog) and not knowing why or what i need to do to get them back.

    • @OneMindDogs
      @OneMindDogs Před 26 dny

      Usually this is due to breaking connection with the dog, which causes the dog to choose their own adventure. But if you send a video to support@oneminddogs.com we can tell you exactly why in each case :)

    For me, it's remembering the course. If I can't remember where to go, how can I expect let alone know when and where to send my dog? Ugh! How do I break the course down to be able to commit it to my memory?

    Length of toe nails too. So important for their nails to be short enough to know where true down really is, right? Pedicure please of Susan Garrett has a vet let you know how best to trim your dog's nails so the quicks are nice and short too. Hope that helps.

    Awesome webinar! Love the 3 C's especially as well as the foundations. Think this should help me with Rodeo Dog Training as well. I bet the people who are on world teams now might not have started out thinking that was their goal, so focusing on the foundations either way is very beneficial. A bit like Steve Young and horses. Almost every episode, regardless of the issue, he goes back to basics or the groundwork. By doing this, he gets the horse back on his page and the horse is much more willing to make our idea be their idea (or what we want be the horse's idea). He gets buy in from the horse by going back to the foundations. Hope that helps.

    how is this different than a rear cross?

    • @srikothur2845
      @srikothur2845 Před 3 měsíci

      It's an angle specific rear cross with a wrap. And it sounds a lot cooler, don't it?

    • @OneMindDogs
      @OneMindDogs Před 26 dny

      Whisky cross is when the dog can't see the bar because of the angle, making the commitment much more difficult, so you need to change your body language to help support the jump as you put pressure on the dog's line.

    Really good video, learned several new things, but also got reminded of things I learned the hard way after a number of failures during competitions. If you just starting in competition fast forward to the 31 minute mark and take in the points she makes like fix mistakes during a competition run even if this makes you get a disqualified. It's really binary either run a perfect round without losing points of treat it like a practice run and 1, 2 or 3 errors or a DQ is all the same actually if you train for long run success. Took me some time to get it but getting a DQ is better then not correcting a mistake and make the dog think this is ok during a competition run (but not during practice). And always end on a high note so even if all failed during a run, do some small exercises afterwards outside the ring and reward the dog for these.

    Nice! I get confused though - how is the jaakko turn different from the front side reverse spin you demonstrate in video? I thought reverse spins took you forward or off to the side but not the way you came and we're not performed in front of jump.

    • @OneMindDogs
      @OneMindDogs Před 3 měsíci

      It's about the amount of rhythm change and the handler's position and chest. But working on one jump with limited movement in a small space, they look very similar. app.oneminddogs.com/learn-online/course/jaakko-reversevset-reversespin?course=Mini-Course-Jaakko-Turn
