Sound exactly as mine when idling, I always thought that metal slapping sound from the cylinder was a fault of my one, must be normal. I thought the bearings or the crank had an issue after all this time.
I had one of these when I was 13 years old after stepping up from a 5 horse power mini bike. There were 4 or 5 friends of mine that had Suzuki 75's or Yamaha 80's but I was the only one with the Honda. I had a couple of awesome summers riding this bike. So cool to see that there are some out there over 40 years old that still look like they are brand new!
I laughed when l heard the sound ! Exactly how l remembered them as a kid. I raced the YZ80C and when these new canterlever models came out, l just couldn't catch them. They look so innocuous idling away, but get these little hornets into the power band and they can give many in the adult classes a run for their money.
Oh my gosh that takes me back. I bought one new with my newspaper route money. $685.00 if I remember correctly. Absolutely beautiful. Thank you for the video.
Very nice bike you did a really good job I have a 1974 XR at home it just sits in my spare bedroom it's all original yours looks very nice with that pipe you did a really good job on that the 73 model was a little bit more of my favorite back in the day because of the bigger tank it's crazy amazing what they get for parts for these these days like even the kill switch is top dollar it's hard to restore one even if you can find the parts you're going to pay through the nose for it your bike is very nice the exhaust is cool I like to find one of those for my bike it's just offsets the whole bike so nice 74 I was 14 I wanted one of these when I was that age but my father said no because I was tall at the time and he felt that I would outgrow it my dad was right I later on got one years later very cool
Same. I wanted one the first yr they came out 73 with the red stripes. I was 14. My dad thought I needed something bigger. Ended up with a Hodaka. Super Rat. 👍 way better.
I mowed lawns and dropped $470 OTD for mine in '74......put a DG ''Tiger Torquer'' pipe, a CR front mudflap and a 3.50 Cheng Shin out back. That sound takes me back!!
She's beatiful Joel. Do you still own her?
Would you like to sell it?
Did you know, Suzy had a shot at getting that monoshock in the early 70s? Put it on, with Maico forks and that rm would be ahead of its time.🤓💪
I need one restored ! Anyone here know of any restorers of these?
Do you do restorations for clients? If so I’ve got a 79 YZ 80 I’d like to do !
Hey. The burn on my leg has completely healed!
Nice bike. You should turn the tail light lens over though
I had that same bike when I was 10 years old..memories
Legend of a bike.... I had an E for years... best years of my life...

In the day,you had one of them, you were king of the qaurrie!????
My Dad bought me one in 1979. I wish I still had it.
Used to have a 79. The only thing that doesnt look original is the front number plate. Very nice
Fast like a cobra
That's sweet! Beautiful restoration. Those were great race bikes back then, except you had to gusset the frame in a few spots.

Christmas 1975 one of these was in the living room when I woke up. Best Christmas ever!!
Thanks for the memories, i bought that bike brand new in 1980 ... it was on sale as a leftover, being 9 years old I didn't need the latest model
16 HP. 6 gears. 1 hard hitting power band. And my dad smiling with a lit cigarette in his mouth while mixing then filling it up with gas!
Great shape and good compression. Easier to start than a Bull Taco and very nimble on the dirt track.
I had one brand new in 1980 when I was 12. Sticker price new was $799.

Nice looking bike. 👏👏
My 1st bike. Once you put Boyesen reeds in them they went way better. I went from that to an 84 KX80.. Big difference !
Is it for sale ☘️🇺🇸🤘⚡️⚡️

Yeah little beast. I have 1980 rm400 and i weight around 100pounds. It is old beast
Thats a sweet bike ! That's what I raced flattrack with as a kid ,bit mine was a 78 ! Crazy fast ! 😜
I had a 1980 in the "bumblebee" yellow and black trim the same as this one. You are right...it was wicked fast and a very powerful 80cc bike.
Very nice work! Great memories!
20:1 with a NGKb8hs
