Eu sabia que essa música é dele, mas nunca conseguir escutar em disco, só conheço essa versão.
I never knew that Blondie didn't write this song, I'm glad the record was set straight for me as I have loved this song since the 70's , it's one of the first songs I ever remember hearing on the radio as a child.
everyone should have 100 volts of Holt album in their collection, if you have not heard it go and listen , one of the greatest reggae covers album ever
I was so very lucky I got to see jhon Holt live twice in Manchester ❤
One of the best from my country rest in peace ,
Beautiful
A maré está alta mas estou agüentado, Eu vou ser a sua número um. Não sou o tipo de garota Que simplesmente desiste assim, Oh, não. Não são as coisas que você faz Que irritam e me magoam tanto, Mas é o jeito que você faz As coisas que você faz para mim. Não sou o tipo de garota Que simplesmente desiste assim, Oh, não. Refrão: A maré está alta mas estou agüentado, Eu vou ser a sua número um, Número um, número um... Toda garota quer que você seja o seu homem, Mas vou esperar, meu querido, até que seja minha vez. Não sou o tipo de garota Que simplesmente desiste assim, Oh, não. Refrão Toda garota quer que você seja o seu homem, Mas vou esperar, meu querido, até que seja minha vez. Não sou o tipo de garota Que simplesmente desiste assim, Oh, não. Refrão The Tide Is High The tide is high but I'm holding on I'm gonna be your number one I'm not the kind of girl Who gives up just like that Oh, no It's not the things you do That tease and wound me bad But it's the way you do The things you do to me I'm not the kind of girl Who gives up just like that Oh, no The tide is high but I'm holding on I'm gonna be your number one Number one, number one Every girl wants you to be her man But I'll wait my dear 'til it's my turn I'm not the kind of girl Who gives up just like that Oh, no The tide is high but I'm holding on I'm gonna be your number one Number one, number one Every girl wants you to be her man But I'll wait my dear 'til it's my turn I'm not the kind of girl Who gives up just like that Oh, no The tide is high but I'm holding on I'm gonna be your number one {Repeat}
Gone too soon but your music live forever?
I was 11 when I first heard this song in the 60s by the Paragons. 13 years later, my young wife reintroduced it to me (Blondie version)when I'd just gotten back from a 6-month deployment as a young naval Officer living in Virginia. The song has had staying power...
I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Japanese-American and male. When I first heard this in 8th grade, I thought it was a Mexican song! Probably because it has a "romantic Latin feel" to it, a "tropical feel" to it, and a guitarist at a Mexican restaurant Casa Lupita played it when my parents and I went there! When we'd play pickup softball, there were guys named Eduardo and Fidel, great guys, Mexican-Americans, and when they'd come up to bat, in every good way, I'd sing, "The tide is high, but I'm holding on...." Kind of like their "walk up music." Eduardo and Fidel probably wondered what the heck I was singing that for!
I thought the paragons sang it first
John Holt wrote the song and he sang it as lead vocalist for the Paragons.
He had such a great voice. I love his voice. I am so sorry we lost him . I love these videos that holds his memories RIP JOHN.
Requiescat In Pace. ❤

I always wondered why Blondie made a reggae song and never knew the true origins of this gem. This is better and just wonderful. Thanks for posting this.
Both is amazing
"Island of Lost Souls".
For so long I thought Bob Marley sang this. I feel like a penny waiting for change.

Legend
So nice to hear the original and it's really good too , it's the first time I've ever heard it, nice one 👍
Well, "the original" is something older and different, but yes, this is a great song, and a great singer.
Get those Christian nuns out of there, do black people ever learn?
I can see our northern ghana tribal blood in them..
Thanks to share! 😭😭😭 🇧🇷
THE ORIGINAL BY THE PARAGONS FEATURING JOHN HOLT, HOWARD BARRETT, TYRONE EVANS, am not sure if BOB ANDY was still part of group at this time, maybe he had already left THE PARAGONS, THE BLACKSTONES

My king of reggae music sir John Holt rest in peace
Canción maravillosa 👍👏👍👏👍
I lived in the Bahamas and this song was amazing with steel drums. It was still very popular in the 1970s and all the way to today. Thank you so much for posting this.
I would love to have heard this with steel drums
You sound like Jr. Gong dude
You mean Jr Gong sounds like him.
@@Millwall77 Very Well Said 👏
Wich year was that?
1967
Probably in the 80s. Mr. Holt was born in 1945 and no way that was 1967. He was 22 in 1967 so I'm saying it must have been the 80s when he was in his 40s.
This performance was recorded early 1990's.
Loving this one thanks for sharing very important information giving thanks blessed love to all knowledge is power hopefully everyone pays attention keep up the good work when I come back home must visit it's on my wishlist 🙏🙏🙏🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲💪💪💪
