Since he missed it , he probably thought he didn't have enough time to pick it up and either tag him or run to first
It appears that the batting team was conceding the out in favor of getting the runner to second. Assuming he didn't touch it the defense might be better off with the runner back at first and the batter still at the plate.

If the fielder is in foul territory and the ball is fair, it is a fair ball.

If the call was later reversed, the player who was tossed for arguing should have been let back into the game. Dude was right and in effect, won the argument.

Jeff Brown You don't scream at an umpire. I don't know what leagues you played in where that was common but if you have an argument you state it like an adult or get kicked out like a child.
I played high school and never argued. I agree that civil is better, but am used to seeing typical ones like this. The guy was a little over zealous, but I still think the reversed call should put him back in. Are you an umpire? Your pic looks like an ump, to me.
+Jeff Brown I am an umpire (26 years and counting). Ejections are final. He was tossed for unsportsmanlike conduct, and it doesn't matter if he was right about the call - the behavior merits the ejection.
Matt: Wow, good for you umpiring that long! Yeah, I know they wouldn't let him back in, I just like to play devil's advocate and say that in a truly, "fair," world, letting him back in seems like the right thing to do to me, because the awful call lit the jerk fire in the guy. Reversing the call should reset time like the whole thing never happened. Of course, that would never happen.
It's really hard to tell with the low quality and shakey camera to be honest. In person it would have been much easier to see, but to me it looked like he almost touched it but didn't.
i saw the very same. player attempted to touch the ball but i don't think he ever did. but very difficult to say via this footage versus being the HP umpire, with the much better view

Only problem with the ejection is that the umpire was holding the mask in his "ejecting" hand. It makes the mechanics look awkward.

At first it seems like he touched it, but the more times you watch the video, the more it seems like he pulled his glove up at the last second and missed it.
idk man the ball looked like it changed direction mid air rather than when it bounced... If the ball kept going it was going to be fair it looked like.

You don't get ejected for merely arguing. You have to either argue for a really long time or you have to say some magic words. Considering the length of the argument, it's likely that the first baseman said some unkind things about the ump's mother (or something like that).
