Arguing that power-ups need downsides is... sad. The whole point is that you should fight over them, keep an eye on when they're spawning, they're what an arena shooter revolves around. You don't get them, you lose, so make getting them your first priority. That's the point.

I've been playing for about a month now and everyone I meet is really understanding when iI ask questions or apologize for not recognizing something a more seasoned player would have caught on to :D i's really nice considering I spent a week before joining pub practicing solo just because I was nervous! I'd argue that Medic is the easiest to grasp mechanically , but only friendly to new players if there is already a Medic on the team. Otherwise you're trying to juggle healing and not dying on maps you've barely explored, thereby getting lost while your team is calling for you and only you lol

It's been too long since I've played this game, going to head back to it. I remember Open Fortress being a lot of fun with a really solid core gameplay. :)

One thing about the custom color palette is that people can choose really dark colors and blend in with night time maps so you cant see them very well

So 2 things. 1. Based on how you describe it, Open Fortress is a TF2-styled hardcore arena shooter that's actually enjoyable AND good-looking, to boot. and 2. The double-barreled shotgun needs to work like the SPAS in Half-Life in order to make it perfect. Fire = fire 1 barrel (half current damage, twice the chances to hit), Alt-Fire = fire both barrels (current design)

my open fortress just crashes when the start up finishes

I installed it and got to play it a few times during the bot crisis (which is still ongoing). It was a breath of fresh air and it actually was fun. Unfortunately there are little to no players. You have to be online during your local rush hour to play with like 10 or so people, if you play in the evening you have to settle for high ping servers which have the same amount of people.

Every arena shooter is dead on arrival. After playing a bit of Quake and Xonotic I can totally see why. These games are just extremely repetitive, feel kinda clunky to play and turn into a total clusterfuck with more than like 3 people. Everyone is just flying around like a crackhead, there's barely any strategy involved. Maps are usually confusing to navigate, full of boring corridors, small rooms and big empty spaces with no cover. It's funny TF2 was created as a response to Quake's flawed design and now we're back to square 1 with this mod, which is also dead, like the Quake franchise. I really tried to like arena shooters, spent a few hours with the most popular ones, but it's just a pretty boring experience. I don't want to be a discouraging asshole, but I'm 100% honest here: dear Open Fortress dev, just drop the project. Trust me, many tried to revive this genre. Quake Champions, Xonotic, Warfork, Lawbreakers, Doom 2016, Doom Eternal, Diabotical. I can assure you, you're gonna spend so much time working on this game and the playerbase is gonna drop below 50 a month after release.
