    Thanks mate. Good info. Two questions please: Your method of dealing with the lawn leaves is clearly better than the vacuum, but do you see a use case for the vacuum dealing with tighter spaces? I have leaves falling on flower beds and low hedges etc. And you otherwise sold on 36v vs 18 for garden gear? I use Ryobi 18 for power tools but leaning towards 36 for garden. Maybe even 56 volt Ego since garden will be a different battery system anyway.

    • @thelionlawn
      @thelionlawn Před 3 měsíci

      Hi mate, yep 100% can see the vac being useful for other conditions, like yours, and hard surfaces (narrow paths beside houses, decks, tennis courts etc). The vac worked as intended, it was just my specific application that didn't use it to it's potential. And yeah, I think the 18v stuff is drastically underpowered and underperforming for lawn care. The wood/metal/shop/home tools are all excellent uses for 18v. But I reckon (for what my opinion is worth) 36v or more is required for mowers, edgers, hedgers etc. I'm currently considering a swap to Greenworks or Ego for the 40v (36), and 60v(56) equipment.

    • @rossthefiddler5890
      @rossthefiddler5890 Před 6 měsíci

      I started out with a 36V Ryobi mower about 10 years ago & it was a little under powered when tackling some heavy buffalo growth & after getting the AEG 58V line trimmer 7 years ago I also bought their 18" 58V mower. It held two 58V batteries & was quite good but there was some room for improvement, which they did with later releases, but just recently I bought the 21" self propelled model & it auto switches between the two 58V batteries (8Ah or 4Ah) & is a good basic mower with efficient grass catching. It runs with a 1200 watt motor (same as before) compared to the top Ryobi 53cm (21") model using a 1000W motor, but it isn't fancy in features etc like that on the Ryobi such as top displays & alloy handle bar system etc, as it is sold as a commercial model. For my place it is overkill, but I got it at an extra good clearance price & with two 8Ah batteries. So far I am quite pleased with it. It uses a single bar blade & not this new 'Crosscut' blade system on the Ryobi (& other brands like Honda).

    The cutting height of any lawn mower is determined by measuring height on a “hard” surface. On a lawn, the weight of the mower is the determining factor as to how high/low a mower will cut. The Ryobi cylinder is a very light lawn mower. Thus the grass holds the cylinder up.

    Just picked up a used one of those Ryobi Cylinder mowers for $30 off FB marketplace. Any tips on how I should prepare it to cut its best given it's used?

      I didn't ever get around to back lapping this one, but it can be done. You have to remove the drive motor off the wheel (behind the cover) to let you spin the reel with a drill etc, and find a nice paste to use. If it isn't in dire need of a back lap, just clean the blades and bed knife, and adjust it so it cuts paper evenly and you should be good go go! 🤙

      @@thelionlawn thanks mate! Will try all this. Do you feel putting a bag of sand on it while running it would help it cut lower?

      @@scott-wright Yeah, I had a 10kg weight plate on mine to get it down low. But there are the two Allen Key adjusters right at the bottom, and if you put too much weight on it, they dig into the lawn as you go, so just be mindful of that. 👍

      Do you mean the scissor? Or the battery/powerhead? The scissor part gets a little warm from friction, but I wouldn't say hot. And the powerhead doesn't get any warmer than it normally would running the whipper snipper or edger attachment.

    I've got the link set up, works well. Unfortunately, it seems the states have a waaay larger selection of attachments. Not much of a selection at bunnings

      Yeah, I've had another look at the kits in Bunnings and there's not as big a variety as I initially thought. Are you happy with yours?

      @thelionlawn I'm happy with what I have but I'd love to have access to the whole range

    I purchased this for our outdoor tiled areas. Didn't do anything. Took it to my daughters to use on her tiled deck. No improvement either. I took it inside to try on our shower floor that gets calcium build up. Didn't do anything either. Love Ryobi but not this one. Regretful purchase.

      Yeah, I must admit, I've not used it for anything of any real significance since I did this review. It's just in the way in the shed. 🤷🏼‍♂️
