    Some good ideas here, but I can't understand why Americans insist on building airport stations /real near/ the airport instead of IN the airport. You're building an entirely new line and station - put it in the airport. Oh no, there's no room because of all the space we dedicate to cars? Make the gas-holes walk instead of people who took the train.

    Back in the ‘70s, there was an Air National Guard detachment stationed at ONT. We used to go to the east end of the runway (you could do that back then) and watch the ANG conduct flight operations at night. The ANG that was stationed there flew F-4 Phamtoms and they were fun watch take off. That engine sound and the after burners were just “bitchin” to watch. Gave me chills every time. Ahh, memories!

    increased headways = decreased frequency decreased headways = increased frequency Love the videos, sorry to nitpick, but I'm sure I am not the only one confused...

  • @jonathanwatanabe8246

    I'm all for Alt 4 for the Sepulveda Line but this bitching by Sherman Oaks DID get me thinking... WHY NOT put rail down the middle of the 405 since it is being widened anyways? All 6 options have NO stop until UCLA. So there would be NO hostile environment stations on the line. Would the topography allow the trains to divert from the 405 on a viaduct that would then go underground so the trains could still serve the planned stops at UCLA and the West Side? Why even ask? Wouldn't heavy rail down the current 2 center lanes of the 405 be cheaper than tunneling or even a stupid Monorail? Speaking of which...wouldn't the Monorail have just about the same capacity as LRT? If so, then why not make the Sepulveda Line a Southern (Southwestern?) extension of the East San Fernando Valley Line? I know this line would have the demand to support Heavy Rail, but capacity doesn't come down to merely the size of train being used. You can move an entire urban population with "LEET-uhl trains" if you have HIGH frequency, like 2 minute headways. Case in point? The London Underground, Paris Metro and the Mexico City Metro. The trains in those systems are essentially light rail sized, however its their headways that enables them move their populations day in and day out. I'm going to assume the speed limits and traffic lights on the ESFV line won't permit 2 minute head ways, so not all the the trains would be able to continue through to Sylmar. The ones that could, would give riders a one seat ride through the valley while the ones that couldn't would then change direction and head back down the middle of the 405 again. So why even do this at all? Again, could LA Metro save money on the project and still offer a car-free ride to the West Side of LA?

    @silveradocyn3082 Před 4 dny

    I personally love using the Ontario airport, and used to fly in or out from there 3-4 times a month. For a name LA Imperial would not be very good, as there is/was an LAX Imperial terminal on Imperial Hwy on the south side of LAX. LA Inland Airport would be immediately recognizable, less confusing, and very descriptive to those who are not familiar with the area. It would seem that some type of dedicated light rail or people mover would make sense to and from the Brightline terminal so air passengers could make connections, and train passengers could use the car rental facilities at the airport. (One of the biggest challenges I have with trains is the lack of traveler services at most stations) I will make an assumption that Brightline will have some type of connection to Metrolink and the future light rail expansion, and with additional traffic, additional frequency of service will grow.

  • @JenniferGarcia-yj3jo

    As a resident of the IE in San Bernardino. I whole heartly love everything about this. As a local I wish there would be rail connections with CSUSB, UCR, LLU and URedlands. We ride transit more than anyone and all the major transit misses these spots entirely-only bus connections for thousands of students. Also, San Bernardino has huge issues with raves at the orange show, and the arrow line missed a huge change to divert traffic by connecting the arrow line into the Orange show. Love to see this potential <3

    Despite your “bahgs” pronunciation clearly showing you’re not from SoCal, your videos are largely great. HOWEVER, you’re totally missing the fact that OC residents will never give up their cars. The 405 between Lake Forest and Costa Mesa is the “SoCal Speedway” - 75 in the #3 lane and people are blowing by you. OC Residents taking a subway to get to the airport is laughable. Until LAX becomes legally “slot constrained”, carriers will fly standard domestic configurations into SNA. Until the “Legacy 3” start flying premium-heavy configurations, no one will really care.

    I would kill to do connecting flights to Central and South America through Ontario Airport rather than LAX. Every single time I'm forced to go through that horrendous, exhaust filled mess, I die a little inside. Every time I've transferred through LAX, I've had a truly awful experience, especially when spending an 90 minutes to go through customs. It's so bad that I specifically try to fly through DFW or MIA whenever I go to Peru or Costa Rica, as they actually function as indented.

    I used to work in airport operations. Not for LAWA, but for the authority at another major US city. I am familiar with LAX and how they operate, though. LAX works fine for the most part. The airport is mostly O&D with few connections and current terminal set up works well for that. It does need to be modernized, though, and they desperately need an effective people mover system. At least they're moving with that. Regarding the runways, they desperately need a taxiway in-between the northern runway complex. They were planning to build one, but cancelled plans for a variety of reasons. NYMBYs to the north were one, but the mayor at the time was trying to push some traffic outside of LAX to the surrounding airports and they didn't want to encourage airlines to add more flights. But putting a taxiway is more for safety reasons rather than capacity. With LAX's runway configuration, they could probably handle about 150-160 movements an hour. Airspace and departure routes are other issues that affect capacity more than the runway setup.

    IMO, Long Beach's "passenger experience" is much superior to Burbank's: it's less crowded, the TSA people are more polite and the outdoor screening area a pleasure. The little Greek restaurant means that LGB wins on food too, but BUR's aviation-history displays are engaging. As for public transit access it's a tie: both airports lose.
