I wouldnt blame Trent if he went, as hard as it is to admit, Liverpool has a ceiling that we will never break under the current ownership. he's won everything with us , so we should give him a little bit of grace with this situation.

No. Gerrard was the best player he could possibly ever be at Liverpool. Anywhere else, he would have found, (previous comment), they’re all just as good as me! He wasn’t an over-rated player but he wouldn’t have found new dimensions at say Real Madrid. He instead would have found his limitations. In any English player these limitations are strictly marked out at quite an early age.

The hardest oponent of the English national team (players and manager) are the English fans and media. For the rest of the world its kinda funny how you crush your own team with your pressure and tabloid headlines.

We live in an unforgiving world of recriminations, click bait, and toxicity. The online world is largely a cesspit of unpleasant people who think it’s okay to be unkind and frankly rude. Gareth has born the brunt of that treatment for some time now. The other problem is people and mainstream media think in one dimension, he is good or bad, bright or stupid and so on. Subsequently any commentary lacks nuance and balance. Again Gareth has fallen prey to that. There is no doubt Gareth on some levels has done a phenomenal job for England, he has brought the players together, it is a shirt players want to put on again and he has engaged the fan base, and had them believing England can be a force in world football. Well done him. His intentions have been pure, no one can dispute that. He will make a great ambassador of English football for the FA. Whilst all of that is true, it can also be true that he wasn’t or isn’t a terribly competent coach, he didn’t play exciting football, and whilst he gave England a fabulous media identity, he didn’t do that with our playing identity. He wasn’t a very good coach and lacked in areas so fundamental to getting the best out some of the best players in the world. And whilst he didn’t lack courage from a profile and media standpoint he did lack courage from a coaching standpoint point. The final team selection and more importantly the formation shows us that. Both things can be true, we can celebrate and applaud his intention and achievements in building the England brand, but we can also simultaneously be pleased he has gone because he simply does not have the coaching competence to be entrusted with this talented crop of player. Thanks Gareth for all you’ve done, enjoy the next phase of your life.

Hi Laurance, just found your channel. I've been watching a lot of different videos on the final. I am sixty-six and I live in Ireland. I have been watching English football for close on sixty years. I remember watching the 1966 World Cup Final and I was delighted that England won. After all I was and still am a United fan. And a fan of the English Premier league and the lower leagues. I haven't been to OT since before covid and I doubt I will see it again. We are all armchair football pundits with our own opinions. Do you think that England would have done better with two fast players up front? I'm thinking of Watkins and Toney. I can't blame Harry Kane or anyone else either. But Kane is what I consider to be an "old fashioned " striker. It's not rocket science but a player like Kane needs crosses from wingers and/ or attacking wing backs. Unfortunately this didn't happen so that's why I asked about Watkins and Toney. Southgate is a genuinely nice guy and his contribution to English football shouldn't be forgotten. He took England to two Euro finals and a World Cup semi final. That's no mean feat. I firmly believe that another huge burden on the players is the media driven hype. A lot of the fans and even some of the players fall for it. The expectation that England are going to win every tournament is not helpful. I saw a few post match interviews and the hype is still there. People saying that England will definitely win the next World Cup! There's only one definite in life and that's death. I totally get the national pride and the hope. Of course you want your country to win. The Premier league is the best watch by a mile.
