Reanimating Nadu and Nomads was a great line! Reanimate is just a really cool card in general

Congrats on your Top 8! The 2 Dauthi main next to the Frogs was a great call. Unfortunately I made the wrong call and decided not to play Scaminator at a larger event I went to last weekend. I even had my sideboard prepared in a similar way to yours, with 2 Coffin Purge and 2 Dark Betrayal. Having those removal spells only cost 1 mana felt really important.

@@Matt_Chow I played Esper Pokepile instead - the deck felt good on Friday, going 4-1 and only losing to a Moon Stompy build with 8 red blasts in the 75. That type of deck is also something that suits my personal playstyle a lot more. The main issue was really that I lost to Grixis Delver twice in the big event because I hadn't practiced the matchup at all and took the wrong approach in my games.
Grixis Delver is almost always my nemesis haha
I think one issue with Serra’s Emissary is that they will have leylines which are in play some times that you must answer, and half the time you will be reanimating it with animate dead which can easily be killed with the command or the UG kicker card. It’s a strong idea but I think the situations where it is strong and when the other two monsters are not enough is pretty narrow
Yeah I actually think you’re right, I think I was conflating pre-board and post-board games. In preboard Eldrazi is faster and more likely to have kept a 7 card hand, meaning that they can power through Reanimation if they have the battlemage to bounce it. However during post-board games they are much slower and less consistent due to mulliganing for hate, so any target is usually sufficient.
Tip for future videos: when checking replays you can open the sideboard so that you know exactly what you did in each match. Fun video, have a big paper tournament and will be jamming the best deck

got my 4 Nulldrifters and some Vexing Baubles for my Stiflenought deck. Works very well! Thx MH3 Great work dude. Also, ban Grief is the only good choice.
I never published the piece, but I went through and reviewed every MH3/M3C card prior to release and Nulldrifter was a something I was extremely wrong about. For the life of me I couldn’t figure out how to cheat it into play, fully missing the interaction with Stifle and Dress Down 😂 I’m glad you got a cool new tool for Stiflenought!
@@Matt_Chow Stifle/Dressdown/Doorkeeper Thrull. And the thing with the Thrull is, he prevents ETB, but the Nulldrifter's 2 cards are cast trigger, not ETB. So u get the cards anyway, even when countered

I think I’ve seen a couple lists with 1 copy of Step Through, but in general, Breakfast is a very tight 60 cards these days.

Any thoughts on why this list doesn't play surveil lands?
It’s probably worthwhile to try a Meticulous Archive in place of one of the Tundras.
Have you tested with karakas? The Samwise Karakas loop in a white based deck has been very oppressive in my experience and seems to have very little opportunity cost.
It’s a good idea that I hadn’t considered, especially because of the Sam synergy. The opportunity cost of another non-blue, non basic land might be too high though, the manabase already felt a kinda greedy.
Sam is among my favorite cards printed in recent history. There are so many cool interactions it enables. Love the vids, keep up the great work!

This is good stuff. I’d put crystal vein in an intermediate bucket myself different to depletion lands, the odyssey and homelands saclands, etc. Crystal vein also stands to get progressively stronger as more busted 2 colorless three cmc threats are printed. It’s obviously not there yet but in another few years I could see them as necessities.
Matt Chow's legacy videos are a national treasure. Legacy needs it, don't stop!
The draw back being a restriction of color used to cast colored spells. With exception of affinity you could get screwed easily by having a lack of the needed color and this is even more true with multi color decks.

I’m also very much an Island Ponder player! Playing Ancient Tomb decks is such a different challenge and they are so enjoyable
sticker cards suck. It's a stupid annoying mechanic which they obviously regret. seeing a sticker card in actual table play is a huge eye roll moment

My perspective is that the ban may pre-empt a functionally approximate version of sticker goblin releasing in the near future, possibly even within MH3. This would prevent goblins from having an 8-of of an effective combo enabler.
That’s certainly a possibility. I imagine it would have to be in one of the MH3 Commander decks as that level of fast mana is likely too much for Modern to absorb. VERY enlightening. Been pravticing legacy for a couple months, shifting gears every couple based on decklists but ive not been able to pick up on why they keep changing. Turns out, you just have lots of options for how you play. Long live reanimator decks!
The overall metagame and card choices made in top performing lists has so much depth to it, so understanding it can be difficult to grasp at a cursory glance. Something that I think gets lost in Magic discourse is how player preference and play-style can vastly impact what decks an individual can or will succeed with.
