At Lee College in Baytown, TX - when I was staff accompanist (OMG, the stories of crazy I could tell you - and it's the faculty side...) - I would have been told (along with the drummer and bassist) to PLAY SOFTER (even though I was playing ppp already, because the young inexperienced vocalists/instrumentalists - with deficient teachers - were not able to produce a sufficient sound to be heard). But, NOT WITH SOMEBODY WHO HAS SOUND - like Chris Potter, or anybody who has even 1/10th arrived. Gut Gott in Himmel!!! I am SO FRIKKIN' GLAD that I am no longer associated with that dysfunctional music school. BTW - F.U. Charlotte Mueller, you psychopathic fraud.
Very true, I was also surprised by the great sound that Chris had. The rest of the group looked like little ants when we started playing. As a drummer I had to find a balance between bass, piano and Chris ☺️. I loved this experience.

They are performers, Chris is a musician.

The way Coltrane was.
Besides a few classical violinists. I don't know if anybody today is a true MASTER of their instrument the way Chris is.
Joshua Redman , Eric Alexander & James Carter are all true masters of their saxophones as well. These gentlemen, along with Chris Potter, are elite jazz saxophonists.🎷
