Siri is impassive observer on the ship so much so that he reluctantly participates in the trips to alien ship. Sarasti attacks Siri because Sarasti AI (its mentioned that all along Sarasti was controlled by an AI) knows that Siri will deliver this news back on Earth in impassive neutral manner. AI knows that a message delivered without the urgency or seriousness of the alien's capabilities will make humans complacent. The attack is meant to shake Siri out of his system enough that he warns the Earthlings with all his might. That is the only chance of our species survival as per AI's calculations.

Peter Watts either intentionally or not set all the voices as a subset of siri, who is translating from incomprehensible technobabble to something the average corporate CEO could understand. All of the voices with the exception of Susan James are in his own voice by his own admission even, since he states "I will let Susan speak for herself"

I bought the hard cover the week it released. Was a great book, still come back to it from time to time.

The problem is that.. there are in fact many signs of the shaver story to be truth.. missing people in strange circunstances during "mental brakes"... (missing 411) people who in last years claim to hear voices and being targeted and attacked by "psichotronik weapons" amongsts other strange activity that we the sane people call "crazy stuff" (targeted individuals). In fact i think that you already saw some of this persons in the news doing massacres (My e.l.f. weapon, etc..) Other intresting point is that there were psychiatrists that has been involved in strange ufo cases where investigators fell into paranoia due to having experienced delusional situations very similar to those experienced by schyzophrenics. Read the bible and you will see in there many strange situations too. The interviewee seems to be another "blind scientist".

I liked Prey, but some of it felt a little contrived. The main character basically *spoilers gets the Predator to shoot itself with its own weapon at the end. That’s a dumb ending. I get that there wasn’t much they could do to have her overcome a dramatically technologically superior enemy, but if that’s so, then have the protagonist lose or fail to kill the creature and barely escape with her life. I think Predator and Predators are both better than Prey.

Just want to chime in that Prey’s budget is lower than that of The Predator, but not by that much. $88 million versus $65 million. It really shouldn’t *look* much cheaper.

After hearing what Peter has to say about Tor how it was in 2006 is sad ;( I lost all respect for TOR... Blindsight is such a delicious construction. Patchwork from modern ideas in a style of a body of the Frankenstain monster.

Reading this book really open my eyes to the wonderful creative process of her abilities as an artist !

One of my favorite authors of one of my favorite series of books. Love it.

Someone help me!!!! Please. I am a space opera fan, I cut teeth on Asimov, Hilien and Clark, and have grown to Tchaikovsky, Hamilton and my fav Reynolds BUT every single time i dip my toe into anything Bsnksidh I find myself stuff on some planet that is itself stuck in some well written fantasy sword and sorcery thing. And, worse, there longer I stick with it the more sword and fantasy shit it becomes. That, or as with plebius, the problem is with an adjective for ever single noun, which is tiresome "the gloriously refractive coffee pot". Someone help, really
