Glad you found your solution. There is a lot of benefit to learning how to focus manually and truly isn't that difficult. You could practice on digital if you didn't want to spend much on developing film.

If you were getting consistently out-of-focus shots on something like an A1, assuming you understand the basic idea of split-screen focusing and weren't just guessing, it might have been a misaligned focusing screen. Not to dissuade you from an autofocus film camera, just saying that it might not have been your fault.

While I never used Canon SLRs, I had a Nikon N90s which came out in 1994, but its cheap and its about as modern as you can get. You don't have to worry about incorrectly loading the film as its super easy, the camera mostly takes care of it for you. You metering is spot on, takes the guesswork out of it. Super fast auto focus too. So I 100 percent get it and some of my best photos on film I took was from the N90s, however personally when I was using it, I felt like I was shooting digital which is not what I wanted because I wanted film to slow me down as a photographer so I'm back to using old mechanical SLRs. Great video, it was interesting hearing your experiences with the different cameras. There are a lot of amazing film cameras out there that can be had for relatively cheap. Thanks for sharing!

Seeing how this is just a carbon copy of the Spengler wand with a new coat of paint and new grips I passed on it. I got snap on grips for my Spengler wand that look 10x better than the brown on the grips.

Broken vhs tapes is fixbel with Scotch tape it starts playing again with out no problem's look it up online now days

People like you don't think right vhs tapes last longer then your computer does people like myself done that before not doing it again am keeping my vhs tapes an whiching them

you are using VIDBOX, the same device I am using. I had been suspicious of it, thinking that a better device could do the job of conversion better, but at the same time I do remember the not-so-good quality of TV viewing some 20+ years ago when recording, so I don't complain much. UNLESS you have personal video recordings and/or some rare programing----The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, for example, or any documentary that are aired only once, including old movies from TCM----holding on to movie VHS tapes is something I would NOT do. it takes a lot of space and it's pointless. It's been almost a year that I am conversing A LOT of Jay Leno the Tonight shows, FIFA matches, documentaries, VH1 and CMT songs, news, political news, C-SPAN recordings, etc. I assure you, guys, this conversion work takes A LOT of time, as you can NOT just pop in the tape and let it run. You will have to stand guard, so to speak, as you have to HALT the recording when the show ends, for example. At times, i like a short clip, so I go back to get just that clip. This way, the work becomes very tedious and time consuming. But once I am done with one tape, I sat it aside for the purpose of giving it away, or, unfortunately, throw it.

Is this good for a one person podcast/livestream? My podcast has all 4 people. Would that matter?

I run the output of the VCR into a dv camcorder that passes the data out through a firewire connector and into my computer as digital video.

Actually, NOT ALL adapters are the same, I have a Dazzle DVC100 and a EasyCAPture and both do not work and I cant find the new firmware anywhere, both of their websites have dead links...so knowing the set up would be amazing. The cable, the RCA adapter, the program. I don't let other folks transfer my stuff.

How do you clean the tapes?

I was a die hard also watched every episode and have them in dvr.

The flash isn't strong enough to brighten up the entire space. Any subjects within the range of it will be nice and bright 1 meter distance minimum

Luckily I visited in 2017 and was given a tour of the work area and design studio. Nice guy's there. Glad I was able to experience it in person. Watched the show despite the drama with family dynamics.

i been working with vhs and svhs for 35 years, , i would never use a cheap tape rewinder,,, to hard on the tape as most of them dont have slow down feature that vcrs have, and could damage tape or stretch it at beginning and end etc.

I have been transferring all the tapes to DVD for 4 years now. I found a vhs to dvd machine at goodwill over 4 years ago for $ 10.00 !! It works fine and I have been having a blast with it !!!
