I totally agree with Brian that mold is more likely when carpet is on slab or in a basement. He is also correct that carpet on an upper level is less likely to develop mold unless there is a window leak, ice dam, bathroom leaking into the room, carpet cleaning...or pet urine! In Minnesota, basement carpet is the number one source of mold in homes. Older homes do not have vapor barriers under the slab, so water vapor (and radon) can come up through the slab. Also, humidity can get really high in basements - mold can grow when humidity is above 60 percent. Most carpet is synthetic and won't support mold growth. The mold grows in the dust, so the older the carpet, the more dust. You can never remove all of the dust from your carpet. Most of the time you won't even see the light-colored mold growing on the dust. Basements also leak a lot because they are a hole in the ground. If the tack strips are of normal color with rusty nails, that is from condensation. If there is enough moisture to rust nails, there is enough moisture to grow mold. If the tack strips are dark or rotting, there has been a leak. Looking under the carpet can provide great clues!

So what is the answer? How do we prove to landlords what is going on if we can’t see the mold, the tests mean nothing, but our bodies tell us otherwise and we have mycotoxins in our body?

Are you aware of any companies that have a dry only carpet cleaning system. I’ve been asking this question of the CIRs community for years and no one seems to have a decent answer.

Mold definitely messed up my menstrual cycle some months it would be very long or short sometimes I would be heavy and then no period I developed cyst because of mold spores which eventually led me to get a hysterectomy I could no longer get pregnant I was exposed to mold for 5 yrs before I found out what was making me severely sick with numerous trips to the doctors with no help but meds 😢

Mold inspector hired by my building came over asked me where I thought there is a problem, looked briefly and did some sort of reading with a small gadget and took maybe 20 min and rushed out with my building manager watching him looking very impatient

You haven't shown any signs of recognizing that toxic mold is what Chronic Fatigue Syndrome was coined for. That leaves upwards of 40 million people operating under the CFS name that you know nothing about. For if an expert knows something this, an expert must say so. Unless saying nothing is deliberate?

My 7.5 year old daughter gets hyper active and she will start getting deeply upset about things that are no big deal. My 3.5 year old son gets food allergies, skin rashes, tummy aches and can’t sleep through the night.
