I have solar on my home. Will a system like this allow me to store energy I create during the day from solar and use it at night without having to pay through my grid connection? Or are these systems only for power outages?

If regional installers can model this theme over and over again, our industry will make a massive comeback. Thank you for highlighting the consumer protection message month after month from so many unique POVs - but landing David was a big win. I thought that I was the only one that invested in solar 10 years ago while I was in the military. Now I’m starting a new career selling solar and I believe like Dan. that it has so much credibility to my new career when I explain to people and show people how long I’ve used solar, and my reasons why. Not only is it good for the economy owning my system is like newfound money in my household. Future growth of equity, not only short term but also long-term. My new mission is to teach younger generations the importance of investing early along with your home. I am excited of how I can impact those around me by going solar.

I love Enphase products - best warranty and now made in USA! I really hope they make a 10p battery. I’d love to buy a 40kwH battery system but don’t have space for 8 batteries on my wall, especially because there has to be space between batteries for air flow and cooling.

I can attest to how easy it is to install. It sits between my main panel and meter. No main panel upgrade required, or any modifications to the main panel needed.

Yes you must adapt. The only way homeowners are going to buy solar now is if the industry stops high grossing people to death and starts to get realistic on their pricing. A 20kW grid tied system is worth about 30k, not 60k.

Does the Span panel enable energy consumption trending over time for future review and analysis?

Is there a minimum system requirement to have a battery

I’m still confused- as a homeowner looking to get solar is this a warranty I buy or does this just come with certain brands?

Thanks for having me Joe, it was great talking about the current landscape at the renewable energy industry, and how we can innovate, shape the future of clean, independent power, and whole home, innovate long term solutions.

William over at All Solar Texas knows a lot of reasons for the higher costs of power in Texas. He came out of the power grid industry. There are many factors that have pushed the costs up such as Texas being one of the popular moving destinations with thousands of people moving in each month to the next megaplex known as the Texas Triangle; the existing grid is also old and requires a lot of upgrading to accommodate more people and the cost is being passed on to everyone; Some of the older coal fired plants have been retired; the incident in 2021 showed the grid needed a lot of work that included weather hardening of the green-tech side as well as the natural gas lines and storage. We are already getting warnings from ERCOT that this summer may be another challenge with existing capacity. Additionally, some of the providers are already making changes to their power plans, so I expect to see something similar to California in the near future - time of use, no net metering, etc. Fortunately, I now have my system in and it is showing to be barely adequate (with all the rain we've had), and a HomeGrid battery system that barely makes it through the night with 20KWH. I may be back to my installer soon for some additional panels and battery. Now if I can find a way to retrofit a Geo-Thermal HVAC to my home, I could reduce the daily load. But the estimate I got is huge - ~$45k ! Thanks Joe for the continued coverage of these issues.

Geothermal HVAC and solar = freedom!!!!! I love both off mine.

My biggest issue is I produce 30-50kwh of excess per day, but all the storage systems I see hold around 30kwh. I’d like to store a lot more. Been through a few bad freezes in TX the last 5 years, would like to be able to power my home for a week plus, but my power consumption on those days was 80kwh+. Typical day is less than 10kwh. Not sure how it goes tenfold, but as far as emergency preparedness it seems I need around 500kwh. I like the ability to power with a generator as a backup, but I make enough power, I just need to store it, ideally for less than a quarter mill.

Along the lines of alternative medicine did you know that besides NASA the original adoption of Solar Energy was by the Marijuana Industry? Solar energy has played a role in marijuana cultivation since the early, illegal days. In the old days a growers would use solar panels to create electricity off-grid or if they were on-grid then they would use it to reduce or decrease suspiciously high utility bills. : )

She's full of crap. The US has twice as many solar homes with half the population of Europe. Also-Europe is a continent and they do NOT all work together on almost any issue.
