There are cob buildings that last many centuries. That means that it is better than cement! Maybe it takes much longer to cure before putting it to use. I wonder if you would modify your experiment to make it last longer. If it works, you don't have to repair it!

Just a general update to this cob bed, it held up for around a year but because it was not covered it did erode from the the rainy weather where I live. It was a wonderful experience and a lot of hard work so my recommendation is to put in the extra work to make it last. Thanks for watching :)

I'm guessing a dry stacked stone wall would have been a better option for the raised bed.

Wow!! That must've been incredibly satisfying to complete. You should be really proud of yourself. Well done! How's it holding up years later? Considering doing this myself, but higher, as my knees and back won't cooperate with me much longer, but I could never give up growing.

    • @jasmineking2924

It held up for about a year, however I did not put a cover over it or do anything to protect the cob. Very rainy where I live and it needed some extra protection. Lesson learned.

  • @vegannursepractitioner9629

Would love to see if this really lasts or worth the time, logs work well for raised beds with less work, infact, I have a wonderful sweet potato raised bed with logs, including the bark originally, as the walls. Don't know if mud walls will work, one of the reasons you have to build a 2-3 foot tall stone wall to build your cob house walls on top of is to keep the water, and water splash, off the cob so it doesn't dissolve away, so it will be interesting to see if the water doesn't dissolve the mud walls to this raised bed. Thinking of dry ground and how if it rains it does re-soften the dirt and turns it into mud...

Yeah if it doesn’t have a roof on it it will erode. But with a proper roof, it will last centuries.

Melissa Williamson so far it's held up well to the rain but it's only November :) a thicker wall would probably work better with a lime wash but i never got around to doing that. I was thinking maybe during the dry season I would add some bulk to it and lime wash it! Thanks for watching!
