By using a plug-in called Sound Shifter you can easily transform your flute into a more than useable piccolo. This is the easiest way to do it. When I teach a course to someone I show them ways to also create instruments with Flex Pitch, Variable Speed, etc, so many ways to shape the Wav file and create organic-sounding wind instruments.

So glad my video might of helped you. Your mic choice is good.Are you using Logic ? Hard to totally explain here but mid body of instrument even with microphone,,then offset mic to the right.That position helps to minimize key noise. Glad to help
Thanks for this Bob! Yesterday’s session found me frantically moving the mike (Rode Ntk) around to minimize key clacking, particularly as I was multitracking oboes 1.2.3. Your instrument didn’t have that issue. Also you record in a very live room. Please comment on this choice. Thanks!

Good analysis of sound. And the fun factor is never to be forgotten. i really enjoyed the RS Berkeley vibe. And Cannon Ball played King as did Bird. I have 6 tenors ( I am 79) and like them all for different reasons. Plus the variety makes me want to play my horn everyday! Sound good Bob!

I have not heard of that approach before. There is certainly a similarity in their sound, though with the sopranino being an E flat instrument, transposition will be required. Could you please advise which mouthpiece you are using on the sopranino.

No Otto Link has ridges in the mouthpiece so you should get a more Linkish sound without them?
I have the best Links but this Gai as a recording musician allows me the best of both worlds. Everything has some compromise. Try one if you get the chance ,it might surprise you.
I have only tried the Gaia 1 and maybe the second version (do not remember) They were ok but restricted in terms of the amount of air they did accept. I have owned tons of vintage metal links and far from every example is great as you know.

Hi Bob, I can definitely hear more warmth and darkness in the tone than when you are on the Mindi Abair 2. How do both of these compare in your opinion? :)
The Mindi 2 has more mass and has more power with say a Van Doran V16 2 1/2 reed.Much comfort and ease of projection.I feel I can also create the sound I hear and not the mouthpiece dictating one type of sound
