Fighting Shadows with Jon Tyson
Today, as men, we need to do more than understand the largely lost concept of biblical masculinity. We need freedom. Most men are trapped by "shadows" or lies and have a difficult time expressing vulnerability, making us familiar with the grip of isolation and loneliness. This is not the life God intended. Today, we had the honor of sitting down with author and pastor Jon Tyson to hear about his upcoming book, Fighting Shadows: Overcoming 7 Lies that Keep Men from Becoming Fully Alive, which he co-authored with Jeff Bethke. This discussion will touch everyone as we shed light on these crucial lies, explore how they can be overcome, and joyfully do our best to present a better vision for masculinity that is oriented around our Lord and Savior.

We have an active, working, creative God who created humanity to be like Him. As such, our daily work should be a source of meaning and purpose in our lives. Yet, even among believers, work is often approached as a burden that remains an unfortunate means to a better end, like the weekend or even retirement. In contrast, the Bible often equates our work with our worship. When did we forget this...

    Rebellion is about the fall of man into sin , Gen 3. Adam and Eve were taken out of the garden of Eden, God's love. God hates sin , and has to punish his people.By taking them away He was punishing them for violating his morals. Because of God's love , God's nature , He sent Jesus Christ to save His people from sin.

    I totally agree with this message, especially since I grew up as a missionary kid and have family members who are missionaries. But let me tell you why you can have entire nations "evangelized" but with no transformation. It is because the gospel they are being given is about a legal arrangement that is completely void of any tranformative substance. Yes, the gospel of salvation is "by faith", but the words "by faith" are misleading. The Greeks says, "ek pistis," where the "ek" means "out of" or "out from." “Ek” is the opposite of the word “eis” which means into. In other words, righteousness, and hence justification (setting right that which was wrong), comes out from, or out of faith, as a product of faith. This means that genuine faith produces righteousness because it is a FUNCTIONAL faith. This faith is not a neutral intellectual belief, it is operational, active, and productive, causing a change from unrighteous living to righteous living. By this a person is justified - set right from a previous state of living wrong. It is amazing to hear some Bible teachers say things like, “Theology affects the way we live” and “You mostly live according to the theology you believe”, and yet these same teachers speak of “salvation by faith” as if faith as something that happens external to you and has no required byproduct of righteous living. "By faith" is often understood as nearly a passive idea, where we are made to have faith and God does something called "justification," a legal arrangement or accounting act on His end. That is not what is intended by "ek pistis." Teachers of Reformed Theology and Penal Substitutionary Atonement have a problem with active, functional faith because they typically see this as works. To avoid this, the weaker translation is used, changing “out from faith” to “by faith.” Once people are taught that all their sins, past, present and future are all paid for, that God cannot see any of their past and future sins because they are covered in Christ's righteousness, then it is obvious that there is no genuine need to change. All righteous living is entirely optional with this "gospel", is contrary to the plain words of Jesus.

      Yes, faith is active, not passive. We need to think Biblically about this and many other concepts God speaks to us about in His word. Our goal at DNA is to encourage and inspire 'deep dives' into God's word in order to align our thinking/acting with Him. Thanks for engaging with our materials. I believe that the Islamists are not interested in the land, rather in the elimination of the entire Jewish race! Their ideologies and beliefs are enmeshed in a conviction that the mahdi is their savior and he will only come to reign over a Muslim sovereignty if the Jews are annihilated. It makes sense that the numerous peace initiatives that were rejected by them are not dividing the land - this will not appease them. They prefer to be in a state of belligerence and cry that Israel is committing genocide to a world that will not even try to justify Israel's actions, but rather support a constant and consistent narrative. In do doing, the muslims are certain it will be creditable to their cause and again Israel's moral compass is questioned!

    Yes, not being "Joiner Uppers", is a great curse when dealing with proselytizing Absolutist/Globalist Religions/Ideologies. Much of the Jew Hate comes from Institutionalized Supersessionism, also called replacement theology. This is both Christian and Islamic, excepting that al-Islam believes they also have superseded Christianity., and it all culturally engrained . Marxism and it's offshoots hate Jews for the same reason, they are not "Joiner Uppers", and their ethnoreligious identity, not a "race"is very real. They do not seek to make everyone be them. It is when others seek to make them be what they are not, and they resist is where the issue comes in. What is interesting is that "Palestinianism" a political movement is mistaken for an ethnic group. The adherents of this political movement are based in Arab Nationalism/Islamist Supremacism. And they are in fact Arabs and Arabicized descendants of the Arab Muslim Invasion, Conquest, and Colonization, beginning in 638 CE. The Frankfurt School is the direct result of Napoleon's change in Law that tore the Jewish ethnoreligious identity in two, in exchange for assimilation and access to European Culture. They were of Jewish Heritage, not practicing Jews. Identical to the Ochs-Sulzberger Family, which is hugely biased against Israel and Jews, and who have Jewish Heritage, but in fact have been Episcopalian for generations.

    Secularism is not really synonymous with naturalism, because it just only deals with not being aligned with any particular religion. That's it. So, therefore, a secularist can also be a "theist".

    • @DiscipleNationsAlliance
      @DiscipleNationsAlliance Před rokem

      Thanks for your comment. In terms of my use of the words secularism and naturalism, I make a larger distinction between those who are Theist, those who believe there is a Creator God who created the universe, and those who are Atheists who believe there is no God. The former understand that there is both a physical/natural component to the creation and a spiritual/transcendent component of creation. The latter believe that the only reality is physical or natural. The way I understand these “ism” - secularism and naturalism is that they are ideologies, and they are derived from the latter, the Atheist metanarrative. I would make a distinction between forms of pluralism - “The condition of being multiple or plural.” Ideological Pluralism, derived from an Atheistic framework, is: “The belief that no single explanatory system or view of reality can account for all the phenomena of life.” Political/Social Pluralism derived from a Theistic framework is: “A condition in which numerous distinct ethnic, religious, or cultural groups are present and tolerated within a society.” I would argue that there are three propositions about pluralism: 1. Free societies allow for social, religious, and political pluralism. 2. Ideological Pluralism (relativism/amalgamation of religions) will not produce political pluralism (free societies). 3. It took Judeo-Christian Theism (non-ideological pluralism) to produce FREEDOM! Thank you for your engagement.

    Good message but your pronunciation of Hebrew is so terrible that I have to laugh out loud.

  • @paulcohen6727
    @paulcohen6727 Před rokem

    Ish means man and is related the the Hebrew word for strength. Ishah means woman and is is related to the word for fragile. They can mean husband and wife in certain contexts or when a pronoun such as "my" is added to the word. Calling the Lord my "ish" connotes that he is our strength, while 'ishah' implies that the woman is the weaker sex, to be protected by the "ish," which Peter makes explicit in I Peter 3:7 where he says "Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel..." Today in Israel, it is very common for a woman to refer to their husband as "Baali," which is translated, "my husband." No connotation of my master, my lord, my sir or my owner is normally implied here; the word can have one or more of several distinct meanings depending on the context, but even if by "Baali," the woman means "my lord," it is actually a good thing; Peter says in this same passage above for women to be submissive to their husbands and to be chaste, modest in dress, gentle and quiet in spirit and : "As Sarah obeyed Abraham, called him lord, whose daughters you are if you do good and are not afraid..." Baali is the same word that Sarah called her husband in Genesis 18:12 and here Peter tells modern women to do the same, being respectful and submissive to their husbands. This is not degrading but liberating, for we can only be happy if each of us are true to our own feminine or masculine nature the man a strong protector, provider and leader, the woman the complement to her husband, fitting in with his leadership, helping him, being the heart of the home and nurturing and caring for the children, each of them living in harmony respect and love or affection for the other.

    If you mean by integrity, adherence to a moral code, this can be accomplished by following our religious values which I hope all church-goers and believers do. "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." Galatians 3:28. Otherwise nothing will ever change. But this doesn't imply that men and women will have equal roles in a marriage.

    In God's eyes men and women, all of us have equal worth and are of inestimable value. This is contrary to third wave feminism that says than women are superior to men or to the lie that the speaker talks about- which I never heard of before in my country. Real men love their wives and care for them sacrificially. Abortion is an abomination before God and sex selection abortion is worse; it will result in chaos in the next generation, to say noting in the downward economic spiral that results from a shrinking population. In this case that you mention, the woman is more guilty than the man since she chooses to murder her own child.
