I'd suggest a "Deep Cycle" battery. A regular battery like that won't last long. They're not designed for deep discharge and recharge.
What is charging the battery?
I would rather roll a heavy wet log into position on the ground and split vertically... Also less chance of the split log falling on you or your truck
how tall can the pole above the winch be? can it go up to 10'?
Could you have it attached to your hitch and then get the splitter close enough to drop onto it. I have one of those wedge stationary splitters so you cant mount it as the ball attachment to the beam is in the way.

Does it actually have some bearing material in the tube? How is it not binding under load? Looks good, might get one, but I just need to understand how it works mechanically before getting it
Kvasir87, Yes the tube mast connection forms a simple bearing. It should be lightly greased every couple years. Binding is not an issue.

I know you were demonstrating how it will drag a round to the splitter, but your wasting battery power when the round was we round and you could have just rolled it over to the splitter. I have a gorillabac to and it the round will roll, I simply roll it to the splitter then just lift it up. Saves the battery power and wear and tear in the winch. I love my gorillabac log lift.
Right on! There are many options Man. Some logs like the demo do roll easy and certainly a better way when possible.. some backs don't allow the rolling effort action. Too many years of hard work on this ol' back. Thank you for the positive feedback as it goes a long way in sharing the word on" the only log lift that drags, lifts, positions and holds you wood while splitting or loading into a pickup truck".

What powers it?
The Gorillabac is powered by a standard 12 volt lawn and garden tractor battery. These batteries are available at most all outdoor centers and Walmart.

Got Gorillabac and plan to use it for getting the deer into ATV too. Easily handles the big 28 inch OD oak, no problem.... thats gota be all of 250 pounds.
I hear ya! Got Gorillabac too. 2x the wood, no pain but like it said, plenty of fun... Im a barn fab guy who likes the heavy duty build, quality welds and finish. Quickly figured out how easy it was to spin the log around for the reverse cut on the nasty knots. No longer f!$5din around on my knees. Have to try the pickup deal next.

My husband recently purchased one of these units. It does everything the video shows and more. It has helped him with some very heavy blocks of wood. It is a real back saver. The quality of construction is very good. There was a plastic knob damaged in shipping and when he called about a replacement one was sent to replace it promptly. it was great to get to talk to a real person on the other end who knew what he was doing. Great product!
I wanted to take a minute and tell you how much we love the Gorillabac log lifter! We've been searching for a tool like this for a long time. My husband and I are getting older and burn wood from October to April in winter. We cut and split hardwoods such as locust, hickory, walnut etc. Logs we are lifting are 3-4 feet wide and up to 8+ inches thick. So far we haven't hit a piece Gorillabac can't lift. It can drag from large piles of wood and across bumpy terrain. I can run this beast by myself! Not only does it save our backs it is saving us so much time! We can do a cord in half the time now. And the next morning we aren't sore with aches and pains of heavy lifting! We are so thankful we found this product, it's worth every penny and will keep us splitting wood for years to come! We both highly recommend this tool to all of those burning wood that may not be as young as we think we are! And a big thank you to Fred! His customer service has been amazing - he's kept in touch to be sure we are completely satisfied with his product. If you call him, he actually answers his phone - It's a pleasant change in today's world.

pig tail wiring probably is not heavy enough for the current.

Hello Leo, Unfortunately we have not tested for that application. The Gorillabac Log lift meets or exceeds ASME mobile crane rating of 250 pounds when it is attached to a free standing log splitter. We presently maintain the same rating for the pickup truck application. Gorillabac log lift system meets the demand for firewood processing. This is a really good design for users with the occasional biggie, but that log splitter does do vertical.
Working crouched over or on your hands and knees is struggling with logs on the ground, just asking for back problems and frustration. For years I used the vertical option busting my back and stomach trying to position logs over 18 inch diameter. OSHA notes that lift assist, and working from waist level is the right way to do stuff..... yea, we all know that too..... why vertical?? no idea. Should be engineered out as an option
Hi Fred, Last November (I think), I bought a model 3802 after speaking to you about the feasibility of plumbing it into the receiver on my truck - You mentioned there was a video to that effect on the website & that helped. So I got all the stuff together to rig it up & then.....it snowed, & snowed. All the bucked maple rounds I planned on twitching out of a shallow ravine have been buried until now. Making a short story, long, I had at it yesterday & was amazed at how much effort I saved by using the Gorillabac. I attached a photo showing the eighth out of nine rounds I hauled up with the last just visible (down the embankment) above the truck's taillight in the picture. At 64 years of age, there was no way I could have muscled that maple up the embankment. The winch motor didn't warm up to the touch at all. Best, Mark Harrisville, NH

You are splitting some HUGE chunks and calling it firewood. It ain't.
Thank you for the tip on verbiage as well as the tips gained from your video's Bob. We heat with a forced air wood stove that blows the hot air into heating system. It can take the larger cuts. If over 15 degrees outside we feed it with 6 pieces 3x a day. The large chunks work well keeping a good bed and long even burn. We do split smaller sticks for others and call it firewood too.
I heat with a small Fisher (gotta brag...its one of the first 10 Bob Fisher made. Its a collectable to some, but its heat to us...LOL) and TWO of those MIGHT fit if they were <17 long. Even friends with bigger stoves couldn't use those chunks though, except one with a Central Boiler, but he just uses whole logs less than 5 ft long.
Yes, Fisher is a great stove. It is really special that you have that stove. We had one when we lived in Maine. It was a big front load with the air knobs on both doors and hinge one side. Burned great and never warped, as it was the heaviest duty stove I have ever had. Like some of the wood we split, the Ol'Fisher took two men and a boy to move it. It was also the first stove that I fit with a hood and in line fan to pull air from the basement and blow it up into the family room on the main floor.
