Hi, I recently worked with Misultin Studios to produce a conceptual new mode called ROGUE in which a single team must escort an Intel package and navigate across hostile territory to reach an EXFIL helicopter. Up to 3 rival teams hunt the Rogue team using GPS and communication, and must eliminate the Rogue team or destroy all the Intel.

Notes:
EXFIL is a game developed with the community at its core, modes have multiple settings to allow server hosts to configure the mission and create personalized mission experiences. EXFIL has been developed with constant community feedback and suggestions, with a growing internal testing team and the new Rogue mode is yet another example of the commitment to collaboration with the community.
As we play the first sessions of Rogue mode we are listing out ideas for iteration and polish, ironing out confusing elements and building a feature set to produce new modes rapidly in the future.
One of the main notes is that Rogue mode may better suit 1 rogue team versus 1 hunter team, instead of 1 v 3, as the 3 hunter teams are not intended to combat each other, which can lead to confusion and frustration in the field - in another variant of the mode, hunters could EXFIL the intel, and engage in cross team combat to secure the intel from the Rogues and EXFIL the intel for their own factions benefit.

      Heya, so we use advanced sessions, its freeware online and really speeds up connecting to each other! For the replication its blueprint scripting with some components that handle replicated 'equipped item' and sending 'use/stop use' events over the network for item usage like weapon firing and melee swinging. All aiming is done via the native control rotation replication.

      @@Excal-man In our first test no, we ramped the net update rate all the way down, and because they are so simple regarding move speed and direction there was very little discrepancy between client and server, no rubber banding etc. We are doing a test of the 'week 2' work today, so we will see!

      @@lowkeygamedev It's not like I can't hear you, it's just quiet and I have to raise the volume a lot on my pc. I use Kdenlive for my video edits, and in there you can raise the volume of a specific audio channel. If you're unsure how to get different audio channels in obs, you should be able to find the info you need with a "setting up obs for streaming" tutorials, I think that's how I figured it out.

    What about using a paper flipbook in a widget? To me it sounds easy but no one seems to be talking about it.

      you can put a flipbook texture (atlas) directly into a regular material, set it to UI domain, and place a 'flip book' node, set parameters as neccesary

      @@lowkeygamedev thank you for the infomation. I'm going to look into that tonight. I decided to crate my own animation in unreal to get rid of the buttons. And then convert the flipbook animation to a mp4. And then play the mp4 after the buttons are gone to avoid having to sync the buttons up. Roundabout af. But it works and looks pretty good. Kinda of like old games did I guess and suits what I need. But doesn't feel correct. I use materials usually for sprite animations but I need this one to play just once. I just haven't found a use for flipbooks. Thanks again.

    This movement is tick based.... if you have 200fps it moves fast, if 60 it's slow. Garbage.

    Nice video but that is not 2D, it's clearly 3D. How can this be done in an actual 2D project?

      Unreal Engine is a 3D game engine, and it has a Paper2D tool inside. Here I use the Paper2D tools from Unreal Engine 4, in a top down perspective, and apply a navigation mesh. This will generate on any collision surface in a top down (z -) direction.

      ​@@lowkeygamedev But I'm making a 2D game in Unreal right now. In fact, I followed a few of the plethora of tutorials on youtube on how to make a "2d platformer in unreal". My game is basically done, 100% 2D. I do think Unreal doesn't really cater for 2D anymore, apparently there were actual 2D templates in earlier versions of Unreal but was removed starting with UE5, when I started my journey. I'll stick with the "add movement input" controls that is currently working for my 2d enemies, Thanks for the reply, appreciated!

      @@fnanfne good luck with the project, I'm not sure about ue5 for 2D either sorry, but for what it's worth, if you want 'out the box' navigation you need to just orient your Flipbooks and tilemaps to face upwards in the z because navmesh generated downwards only by default :)

      @@lowkeygamedev Hehe, I actually did that back when I had problems making a minimap. I flipped the whole level about the X axis but this actually caused many problems with movement, physics and gravity so had to scrap that idea. I found a tutorial how to flip the axis in the engine itself, importing and exporting program files and will try these hacks with my next project.

    plants have a natural habit to aim towards whatever light they can find, the scene is pretty good with everything kinda aiming loosely at the only light source.

    This was a great quickstart tutorial! No wasted time, lots of things covered. Big thank you! One thing I was wondering (if anyone is reading this 5 years later), if I wanted to do the whole character movement and flipbook selection portion in C++ instead of BP... where would I start with that? Presumably I'd add a C++ class of some sort. What kind? Character, Pawn, Actor... does it matter? And how would I wire that class up to my NewCharacter? Any tips on this, or even any directions to documentation/instructions that could help me figure this out would be greatly appreciated :)

    Maybe I messed something up when making the tile map…but I can see my character spawn only if I move it far away from the tile map. My guess it has something to do with the tile layers or collisions. I’m currently on UE5, so not sure if that makes any difference. I didn’t quite understand the part of the video where he “positioned” the spawner on the tile map 😔

    Hi there, I've run into a problem I was hoping I could get some help with. When my character spawns in, it spawns with the face forward sprite (back towards the camera). I would prefer it to spawn with the sprite facing the camera. Would anyone know how I could fix this?

    Hello, I know this is an old tutorial... but I am trying to make the character crouch as an added action input. I set it up as the jump action input and when I try it, the character crouches but it stops moving. how could I make it reset to the idle/moving, when it is not crouched?.

      I Found my answer. You can put the action input to check if you can crouch, if it's true, you set a variable of Is crouching to true and when not pressed to false. The crouch/ uncrouch function is not needed.

      did you fix this? I am having collision issues where the character falls through followed the tutorial but the player just falls through anyway.

      @@narrgamedesigner2747 Make sure you check that your character is using Flying movement, and gravity is set to 0 or whatever. In terms of the black screen I am still getting on every version of the project I try,. Dynamically spawning in my assets on game creation is fixing it. But, this means I lose the ability to utilize the editor to create my levels.

    I was getting learning to Blueprint but my friend said to me: In unreal engine you can only make for only Mobile or PC. You cant make for both same time. You must pick one. He said: In Unity your can make for both mobile and Pc same time. I am planning to switch Untiy and ı will try their visual scripting Bolt.
