Baseball umpire takes foul ball to cup
zhlédnutí 251KPřed 18 lety
In a high school baseball game an umpire gets hit in the cup by a foul ball.
U1 does not have the best angle on this. He's looking up the back side of the foul pole and can't see where the ball passes the foul pole. The umpire in the infield has a much better angle to see if the ball passes in front of or in back of the foul pole.
All I took from this is that Charlie Welling is soft
3:10 Well yeah, it will look high when you squat down like that.
I don't think I understand the premise of this video
Historically MLB umpires have worked inside the diamond with runners on base. Since 2018 more and more second base umpires are choosing to position themselves outside. Not everyone is doing it so if you watch a game today there's a good chance that you'll see the second base umpire still working in "deep B" or "deep C."
these commentators are idiots
Great video. Thanks for finding all of these and posting.
Glad you like it! It was fun to put together.
There is only one excuse for a bad call. “Because I am the umpire and I said so…Therefore you have the choice of shutting up or going home.” This has been happening since Abner Doubleday invented the game. Bad calls are part of the game. Don’t like it then find another sport.
It landed to the left of the foul pole. The ump by second was closer than the plate up.
Doesn’t make any difference where it lands. Tough camera angle but appears to go BEHIND the pole meaning it was fair and the initial call was correct.
No one overruled anyone skippy. The plate umpire gathered information and based upon the information he changed his call to the correct call.
Plate umpire had no angle. He was straight lined.
Did Angel Hernandez get demoted?
Shit up little boy
Piss poor camera work
How the Hell does the Homeplate umpire wait, call it fair, and then change his mind on the advice of two other umps who never saw the ball clearly??!!
the first base umpire at that. Just BS minor league
@@squarelevelplumbyou don’t know that it was info from from U-1 that changed the call. U-1 is the crew chief. Manager bitched to the crew chief. Batter who struck out with the bases loaded bitched to the crew chief.
That was a clear homerun. Unbelievable. This ump just made Angel Hernandez proud.
Shut up petulant child. You can’t tell if the fly ball was fair or foul. The Angel humor is old and tired and pathetic. When will you make a quality decision to grow up?
I slowed it down they missed that one BADLY. Didnt even go foul after clearing the fence. Hopefully this umpire crew got fined or suspended for this. No reason for a base umpire to overturn this.
Umpires don’t get fined or suspended. They do their job as best they can. Umpires do get released at the end of seasons. It’s a job skippy. Hie well do you perform at your job?
@@rayray4192 Here's my problem with this and why i said fines and suspensions need to be handed down. This ball not only crossed fair it landed fair. The home plate umpire clearly had the best look at this and was overruled by a plate umpire who wasnt 100 percent. The overrule part is where I really have my issue here.
@@Matthew6418 plate umpire was not overruled by the plate umpire. You made a mistake with your wording. We all do at times. What you need Matt is an education on how umpires work together as a crew. Umpires make their best call in real time. If there is a question about the accuracy of the call there can be an umpire conference. During the umpire conference pertinent information can be shared. Sometimes, based upon additional information the calling umpire will change his call. There’s no such concept or practice of overturning an umpire’s call. It’s strictly forbidden. Official baseball rule 9.02(c)- If a decision is appealed, the umpire making the decision may ask another umpire for information before making a final decision. No umpire shall criticize, seek to reverse, or interfere with another umpire’s decision unless asked to do so by the umpire making it.
@@rayray4192 Dude I know you are arguing with literally everyone in the comments but this was 100 percent an overrule. This was the home plate umpires decision to make and there is absolutely zero way a plate umpire could see this better. They ended up making the wrong call because of this. Terrible way to do this.
@@Matthew6418 my name is not “ dude@ little boy. I defend the truth and don’t give a damn you disagrees. And you did it again; the first base umpire is a field umpire, U-1 in the umpire world. The third base umpire was inside because the bases are loaded. He’s U-3. I gave you the rule out of the official rules of baseball. Umpires don’t over rule other umpires. The plate umpire changed his call after gathering additional information. You are ignorant
For a guy spending his third year at Double-A and finishing the season with stats of .244 batting average, 11 homers and 36 RBI, swapping out a K for a grand slam would've been a nice mini-boost to those numbers. Gotta be insanely frustrating.
True and accurate. Hit a fair ball if you want a homer.
@@rayray4192 You have access to the replay. It was fair. Clear as day.
@@Matthew6418 the accuracy of the call is not what I’m interested in. It’s your lie that an umpire over rules another umpire. It didn’t happen skippy
You like pulling up all the dirt on our instructors don’t you 😆
Announcer needs glasses ball was fair @12:34
Yea. Not sure what the announcer was seeing.
Wish this would happen in MLB the show 😂
TINK!!!!
walk it off. like a boss!
Umpire sets up too far back from the catcher.
@Foxxie0kun My point exaclty
@cfl990 Wrong. If faced with self defense situations I would put the survival of myself and my friends above the well being of my attackers, and as such would aim to cripple and execute my assailants. This means exposed throat, genitals, joints, and more would be the places I'd choose for the blows to disable them, and finish them easily with a stomp on the head. Honor and religion has no place in combat. When it's me or him, I'll make sure he's the one to die while I leave whole and alive.
@cfl990 Charles Darwin must rise again as the ruler of reproduction! How is ensuring only the worthy breed being a "baby back bitch"? Oh, yes, you're one of the people who would be denied breeding in a world where being intelligent was the primary basis of breeding rights. =3
@Foxxie0kun Spoken like a true baby back bitch
@Troop3r666 Yeah, and imagine how much smarter the kids that ARE born nowadays would be if the Cup had never seen the light of day. Seriously, brainless roid-monkeys and sports players have physical aptitude in a world where physical strength is largely unnecessary compared to proper intellectual superiority and ingenuity. Gunshot versus thrown spear, which is deadlier? I rest my case good sir.
i was playing in a game once and a foul tip hit the ump in the balls but he wasn't wearing a cup. he honestly had to be taken to the hospital. hahaha it looked so painful
@EldestSauce I ROFLED when u said that
ThaT shit still hertz ally
So is the count 2 balls?
Well I get behind D2 college pitchers throwing 94, and I can tell you, even with a cup, it hurts.
Yeah, it probably hurt alright, but the last thing you want to do as an umpire is react to getting hit if you can help it. It not only draws attention to yourself but shows weakness, which makes a Manager more likely to come out on you. It's these little things that convey your authority to the participants. He did a great job of acting like nothing even happened, and probably the only person who even noticed was the douche bag who put this on you tube.
Your association is a bunch of geeks tmua23. I umpired 25 years. I have four friends in major league baseball. Like I said, it's not a "dish", it's a plate.
Seriously? Out of everything you could have commented on, you want to try and correct a colloquialism used by every umpire I've ever met and one that is still used today by every guy in my association? Come on, man. Surely you can find something better than that, right?
It's not a dish tmua23, it's a plate. That terminology is so yesterday.
WTf even witha cup that should have hurt. either he has an iron cup or he has no balls! lol
I've been hit behind the dish and your body just doesn't react that quickly. I guess you're just so used to fluffing off and contact that you just block out the pain momentarily. I guarantee that by the time the pitcher got the ball that blue was hunkered down by the backstop.
or NO NUTS AT ALL nah that must of hurt but he did a good job of holding it it
Or, NUT OF STEEL! lol
lol
There are too many damn people on Earth! It wouldn't kill the economy if one person was not born!
thank god for the inventor of the cup, imagine how many kids would never be born if it weren't for the cup!
Not if you are wearing a quality cup correctly. It saved me twice this season, I had to keep from laughing both times and they kept asking, "Blue, are you allright?" Before this year, it was five or six years ago when it last happened. I thank the late Vic Bernstein for his banana cup which are not easy to find anymore.
Even when you wear a cup, that shit still hurts! It usually takes a feww seconds though.
he would be on the ground in pain
i fouled a ball in little league and it went strait back and hit the umpire in the "wrong spot". he didnt have a cup on ether.
It hurt.
nice field
No.
