    Does TGTB teach reading well? Never used it but as a soon mom of six about to have a C-section I need something very simple to teach my six year old to read that is easy for me as the teacher but also effective. @@beachgurl788 I can understand that you are looking for something that is both effective in teaching your child to read AND doesn’t take a lot of prep work for the teacher. Short answer: I would recommend this program to anyone! (And I’m not sponsored by TGTB). Longer answer: As a former reading specialist in the public school system I would evaluate each child’s current ability and then move forward. TGTB has placement tests to match your child’s level to purchase (or download) the correct level. Here’s the link: www.goodandbeautiful.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Language-Arts-Course-Level-Placement-Test_June24.pdf I think TGTB is an excellent option because it’s open & go. Additionally, HSLDA members should contact us if withdrawing a child from a New York City public school in the middle of the school year, as there could be special considerations of which to be aware. I love and appreciate scripture in curriculum. However, writers interpretation of gospel and their thoughts I do not. How much references to our Saviour is there or interpretations of Jesus and his ministry? More how much is interpretation of Jesus and the gospel within the text. I am not worried about the end section, ‘thinking biblically’ extensions because that can easily done or missed. I think spreading this out over 2 years looks a good idea. If done over 2 years, how many lessons a week did you do? Did you find it better doing X no of lessons a week, like 2/3 lessons a week, but spread over 5 days. How long does each lesson honestly take if you do all the things?

    • @beyondthebookshomeschool
      @beyondthebookshomeschool Před měsícem

      @@jessicajones611 This would depend on a number of different factors: age of the student, the student’s comprehension of the text, how well he/she understands what the questions are requiring, how focused or distracted the student might get while working. My 8th grader didn’t ever do ALL of the components, especially the literature, but 3x a week it took him anywhere from 45 mins to an hour to read the lesson, complete student workbook, map, and thinking Biblically.

    • @sarahkey413
      @sarahkey413 Před měsícem

      @jessicajones611 well... we don't do all of the things every time, so I can't say for sure. We are not doing this exact unkt right now. We are doing "Our Spangled Story" which is the elementary American History. My kids love to do the unit projects. They always do the workbook page, but they usually do that while I am reading. We do review questions orally as a group discussion. I also frequently pause to look up a picture of something to explain, or add some of my own commentary. We spend anywhere from 20 mins to 40 mins per lesson, I'd say. Not including the suggested read aloud. Our whole morning basket includes a bible story, memory verse, devotional, 10-15 mins of a read aloud, and either science or history. And everything combined usually runs us about an hour. I have 4 kids, so I have to keep my curriculums and my time realistic and manageable. This has been working great. The projects are also simple enough to actually do. Also, for reference, my school age kids are 8 and 10.

    • @beyondthebookshomeschool
      @beyondthebookshomeschool Před 2 měsíci

      I do think it is necessary. As the lessons progress, it will give you the words your kiddo will need to spell. It also explains the spelling by patterns/concepts and how the entire program progresses from level to level. If you are looking for Level B, here is a link to a portion of the instructors guide spellingyousee.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/B-FirstThreeLessons.pdf Also, maybe try Facebook marketplace or eBay to find a used copy that is a little cheaper, but I would highly recommend getting the instructor’s guide.

    • @beyondthebookshomeschool
      @beyondthebookshomeschool Před 3 měsíci

      You’re welcome! Will the program cover all subjects or the subjects that will be required for your child’s grade level? You could put a statement such as “My child _______ will be using the following online homeschool program (name of program) and it will cover these subject areas: (list areas covered). Then you might want to write a statement about how the rest of the subjects will be covered. Lastly, you could end the plan of instruction with something such as “More information will be contained in the quarterly reports.” As long as you have a plan of instruction and make that known to the district, you are in compliance with the regulations.

    Those novel questions, is that in the Student Review book or the Student workbook? This program looks wonderful. What age is this best for if I plan to use it for two student of two years apart. Thinking I could use the Student Review book for my older student and the Student Workbook for my younger.

    • @beyondthebookshomeschool
      @beyondthebookshomeschool Před 3 měsíci

      The novel questions that I featured in this video are located in the Student Workbook. There are only about 4-5 questions each for the novels that Notgrass suggests to read. Your thoughts of using together with two of your kiddos would work! This curriculum is suggested for grades 5-8. The Student Workbook would be great for your younger kiddo and the Lesson Review book would be great for your older kiddo. If you and your daughter want to keep working over the summer, that's great, but I would not be concerned with where she is right now. I've taught 8 of my 10 kids to read (2 are still beginning readers) and most of them have been working on letter sounds and phonemic awareness in kindergarten. My kids in kindergarten and first grade finished the preschool level of TGTB in kindergarten, worked through the kindergarten prep book, and were partway through with the kindergarten book at the end of kindergarten. One could fluently read at this point, and the other one was still slowly sounding out words. Good luck!

      I think the only reason that algebra with Math U See didn’t work out was because my kids were sick so much that year and we weren’t consistent enough with the curriculum. We would do math for a few weeks and then, bam! Sick. This happened all year 😩 So I truly think that was the main reason. Hopefully it will continue to work well for your family!!
