A short real-time demonstration of graphite dry brushing the sky on one of my drawings. The drawing is of the USS Donald Cook (DDG-75). I created graphite powder by rubbing 6B to 8B pencils on rough sand paper, then I used my brushes to soft blend the powder on paper.

My Dad was a "Plank Owner' on the Bailey from Commissioning and Shakedown through every major operation including two trips back to Mare Island near Frisco for battle Damage repair. He spoke of the magnificent crew she had from all over. In the Aleutian islands the battle of the Komandoskis where an 8" Jap projective knocked a hole in the side you could drive a jeep through. I wrote a Poem about it.

Just lots of practice. I've been drawing since I was very young.
@@StratoArt I have a few planes in my English book at school, they aren't the best, but they're decent, they are an AC-47, B-17 and Me Bf 109, I also have a random Mark IV tank, but practice makes perfect.
@@imenvelope definitely use as reference and draw them! those times are usually the best ways to practice! that's how I started.
