This makes me think of the late Christina Grimmie, who passed in June 2016. I tell her story, because she played an instrumental role in saving my life in December 2019.

"And when my time is up, have I done enough? Will they tell my story?" This line in particular hits hard for me, though the whole song and indeed musical is incredible. Still, I can relate to Eliza, wanting to prove herself, wanting to know if at the end of my life, will I have done enough? Will someone tell my story? I don't want to be forgotten, that is one of my worst fears. I want people to remember me, to know that I've made a difference and left enough of an impression on this world that others will remember me. As a wise man once said, "you die two times, the first when your heart stops beating, the second when your name is uttered for the last time". I suppose we all feel this way, though. We all want to be remembered, to leave our marks, to know that our lives were significant and we've done enough. But I can especially relate to Eliza and this line, as someone who struggles with low self-esteem and often feeling like I'm not good enough. Like my life isn't that important. I'm terrified of winding up a "failure", just a drain on society. Growing up, I learned that my worth is what I can give, how much I can give. I was told by my abuser that I'd never make anything of myself, I'd spend my whole life living at home, a parasite. I'm determined to prove him wrong. So when I die... will I have done enough? That is the question which haunts me. When will I have done enough? When will I be enough?

I think most people don’t realize this, but the question in this song title is answered by the repetition of the word “time.” Time is the answer. Time is who tells the story. Yes, Eliza preserved a lot of writings of his and his work. She pushed the legacy through. But time is the ultimate story teller. As evidenced by the writers of this whole play.

Ugh, this song makes me cry! It's just, with everything we just witnessed. From Hamilton moving to NY from the Caribbean, to Phillip's death, and to the duel between Burr and Hamilton. The music that's used to tell the story. The story itself! It's so cool! Hearing the first cords of this song has to be the saddest part of the musical. Imagine, you're sitting in your seat, witnessing one of the best things to ever happen in musical history! You're a new comer to the musical and you've loved it so far, then this song comes on. A few people around you start to get ready to leave, you're supper confused since you didn't hear the soundtrack before hand. You sit there for the entire rest of the musical and while watching the actors on stage singing this song you realize it's about to end. The beauty of Hamilton. The amazing things Eliza did for Hamilton and every else. The awesome music and the fantastic acting will end in a few minutes. That would hit me like a bunch of bricks. I would start to cry. And then, there's Eliza's gasps as she realized Lin told their stories to crowds and crowds of a thousand people at a time. So beautiful!

I just Realized. When it says Madison’s part, it says “President Madison” Maddison became president after Hamilton’s death. As Hamilton died in 1804. He became president in 1809. Meaning this song is played in the 21st Century.

You don't have to read this entire thing if you don't want to. It's just kind of my train of thought in general and it's kinda boring but it might be interesting for some people to at least read the end of it because it has an important message. TW: Death/suicide: Every time I watch the movie version of the musical or just listen to the musical in general or if this song pops up when I shuffle my playlist on spotify, it really gets me thinking about all of my family members that I have lost over the years that will probably never have their stories told even though they deserve to have them told and same for the few people that I went to school with that passed away during the time that we were in school. I had one classmate pass away our freshman year in high school and a couple kids that were a couple years younger than me passed away a couple days after this past Christmas (all very young. My classmate was 14 when she passed and the boys a couple years younger than me were 16-ish) and they all died in a car crash (the boys younger than me were in the same car wreck and my classmate in a different car wreck obviously. The only person left from her family that was in the car crash with her is her little sister, who got away from it without a single injury while her mom was in critical condition (later took her off of life support) and her dad killed himself the day after the wreck happened because he thought that it was his fault (it wasn't. We live in Michigan and it was the dead of winter)) and I just hope that everyone that knew who they were (both my family members and the people that knew the people I went to school with that passed) live long enough to make sure that their legacy lives on even if they weren't very old when they passed so that they are never forgotten. It is the worst in my opinion when people's legacies don't get to have the potential to effect people as much as they should and their stories deserve to be told. If you know people that passed away, please make sure that you keep their legacy going because you wouldn't want you to be forgotten about, so don't do the same to them.
