Moving template menus in BikeCAD Pro
If you make frequent use of Dimension templates, Paint templates, Display templates or any of these sorts of time savers in BikeCAD, you may want to move them out of the File menu and into a more prominent part of the BikeCAD interface. Go to View -- Customize and scroll down to the Open template & Save template section of the Customize dialog box. You can uncheck the box for Open templates in File menu. Click Save settings and then restart BikeCAD. We'll find all our categories of templates listed just below the top toolbar. For even quicker access, we can return to the Customize dialog box and uncheck Show templates in categories. Once BikeCAD is restarted again, we'll find all our templates available as individual buttons. In this scenario, we'll want to make sure we name our templates in a way that identifies the type of template it is. Here for example, we know the Flames paint template adds a flames paint job and that the PVD Flat bar dimensions adds an assortment of dimensions for documenting a mountain bike build. No dimensions removes dimensions, Frame and fork only displays the frame and fork, while the Tight fit title block fits the title block tightly around the frame and fork, which is handy when wheels are not displayed.

Adding a seat tube sleeve in BikeCAD

The option to make the seat tube discontinuous was initially introduced to enable the design of beam style bikes. However, in BikeCAD version 20.7, we can also use this option to represent a seat tube sleeve to reinforce the top tube and seat stay attachment points. The sleeve will be defined in the seat tube section of the tubing dialog box. We will use dimensions J,K,L and M to define the len...

Positioning yokes with the F dimension in BikeCAD

In an earlier video it was explained that the end of the chain stay yoke is located a distance F from the center of the BB shell. An exception to that rule is when the yoke comes premachined in which case F should be set to zero. The Cobra Sidewinder version 16 yoke comes premachined for a 1.5" BB shell. So setting F to zero and choosing a 1.5" BB shell will give us the fit we want. The Cobra S...
Dashed lines on dimensions in BikeCAD

Dropout spacing in BikeCAD

    Since sliding dropouts bolt on, a loose bolt could be a another potential failure mode. The sliding part itself is also like a lever arm that will apply more torque to the fixed part of the dropout the farther it is slid out. However, most sliding dropouts are very solidly built and I don't think this is a huge source of concern.

      @@justineseiferth8010 I can imagine how storing the configuration files on a network drive could lead to a slower start up as this is when the configuration files are read. I don't think there is too much that I can do about that because it is dependent on the network speed. However, if you find that running the configuration files on a network drive slows down the program at other times, please let me know and I will try to address it.

In addition to those great updates, I would ask if it is also possible to add some trivial things like 'slanted fork blades' option for telescopic suspension forks? You know, many 'gravel specific' suspension forks do have them these days. :^) Cheers!

    • @BikecadCa
      @BikecadCa Před rokem

      In BikeCAD, suspension forks are currently idealized to have the stanchions running parallel to the steerer tube. The offset is accounted for in the fork crown and in the dropouts which have some amount of offset from the lowers. In reality a lot of suspension forks have the stanchions slightly angled from the steerer tube. Is this the slant you are looking to address? Or do you mean something else by slanted fork blades? Thanks for the feedback.

    I've always wondered why is there a need for a seat tube bend. Wouldn't a straight tube be better, specially to cater for different leg lengths? If there is a bend, the effective seat tube angle would be different depending on the height of the seat, becoming slacker for a tall guy and steeper for a short guy, exactly the opposite of what a tall guy needs on steep climbs since the center of gravity is higher. Hope someone can explain this to me...
