how does the Renegade A1 performs in the mountains? Are the gears easy enough to pedal for a beginner like me?
@@Pasequale100 generally speaking all bikes made for adventure ride (loaded with gear) are over geared and require modification to get a lower gear inch closer to what a MTB has
Over 20 years ago, in the late 90s and early 2000s when I was a kid my family and I would frequently walk around the area of Haddon Lake and Audubon Lake. The park is a nice place to walk in the summer and fall and there are nice playgrounds there too. I have a lot of good memories of the area and miss Audubon having moved away in the mid 2000s. Thanks for posting this and bringing back memories!
My dad is there so still go back at least once a Or twice a year. Nice place
What is size of your frame?

He mentioned it four seperate times in the video..
Love the explanation. Thanks 👍
My mom bought one kislux and she loves it. It had been there for over 10 years when she went out with it.
Whats the point without knowing how to strip the body?
would it better to ride bike with front suspension on trails like that?
@@AAADAMOV I didn’t think suspension is necessary but it would be more comfortable
This looks epic. Curious; do you think you need a full on gravel setup for the gravel roads on Catalina? I have a BMC Roadmachine currently riding on 28mm tires and am able to get away with light gravel in my area. Wondering if I would need beefier tires for Catalina? Thanks!
@@addisonpartida-vasquez8275 28mm is a bit thin imho
@@socaljoe my thoughts too. Perhaps I will just get proper gravel tires on it. Beautiful video, btw!
I rode from the airport to Two Harbors and back once. That's a big push back up to the airport.
The rack looks great but the panniers look a little fiddly to take on and off.
Too much weight up front if you have a shimmy. Are you over 100lbs?
@@markdobbins007 I don’t disagree but frame shimmys with rear panniers. Starting at back with as little as 15lbs.
Looks awesome, thanks for making. Are you willing to share the route ? Would love to try it.

wow nice footage
The effort you put into getting all these different shots is evident and really deserves far more views!
That was awesome to watch - thanks for doing it so I could sit comfortably indoors and watch. :) I lived a huge chunk of my life in SoCal and only went to Catalina twice. Now I want to visit and spend more time to see more of the island.
Watch out for Newsom's tent army.
Best of luck, and don’t forget to have fun! One question what size frame is your CO-OP ADV 3.1?
I don't remember and it's in new jersey so I can't access it but I think it's at least a large
Great video! This is bucket list territory for me. I am curious if you were do to it again (without the pavement sections in LA) would you consider a full suspension bike with lower gear to better handle the climbs and descents?
@@klurejr I had pretty low gearing. 30t chainring and 11-50t cassette in the back. For the route we took i think a gravel bike is a better choice to save weight. There may be some MTB trails there but the conservatory runs the backcountry there
@@socaljoe Thanks for the Reply! One day I hope to get out there for such an epic trip! I have hiked on Santa Rosa in the past - but they do not allow any Bicycles on that Island - but it would be an epic bike packing place as well.

looks great, you're just missing a roof and a door!, beautiful setup <3
@@edgarpuschel346 and the kitchen sink!
Very best wishes for the ride. It is a huge undertaking but that looks like a great setup that should hopefully serve you well. Enjoy yourself :)
Hi I hope the ride is going well for you, a question.. you've cable tied some kind of material on top of your rear rack I assume it's for mud protection, wondering what you used ?
@michaelglennon82 yes, it's a piece of coroplast because the ortlieb rack has no platform and I needed one to strap down the tripod
Excellent video- the drone footage is fantastic
When you use the thru-axle mount you literally have to uninstall the rack every time you want to remove the wheel. You've got to be pretty desperate to resort to that.
@@PittApartment thank goodness I’m not desperate very often
Good luck and have fun out there! :)

wow you really scored with the weather out there. Great video thanks for sharing.

This is a beautiful part of the country. Thanks for showing it to us.
Thank you for taking the time to watch & comment! You live in a beautiful part too!
I have the SM cleat and they are bloody great.
Interesting. That is some comprehensive detective work you had to go through to come to some sort of conclusion. I have occasionally ridden with a shimmy and I hate to do so as it makes doing stuff on the bike when riding a real pita. I am going off memory here but isn't there a small attachment, on some kind of flexi-cord, that fits between the headtube and downtube that can fix a shimmy? That might be worth looking into unless it is a piece of kit purely a figment of my imagination. Take care. Ride safe and shimmy-free! Jay
Thanks Jay, It's something that has plagued every road tour I've done with this bike and it ruins a downhill. I guess steel frames are prone to shimmy since the material flexes. The issue with this frame is you can't use panniers at all without a shimmy unless you go to extremes like I have with weight upfront and I'm not sure that would work all the time.
A big help to those with Kona EV, since the installation is a bit different than for the ICE version. I was able to install a Draw-Tite 76599 with 2" receiver. Ground clearance is 10". Good suggestions from @cooperation214 about holding hitch in position and fishing bolts. Fishing was tough for me, had to get some help, otherwise the install was not bad. I put this video to a lot of use!
So when you take out the skewer, do the springs and everything come out with it? I’m trying to figure out how this is a quick release if it’s a bolt through. (Not trying to be a smart guy, honestly trying to figure out how to do this with my gravel frame)
Yes, after you convert a thru axle wheel to a quick release with the appropriate adapters you secure it to your quick release frame using the skewers and springs
the preparation, music, and camera work is incredible!!
Thank very much for watchinhg and appreciating the video
Beautiful video
thank you!
nice ride.....i plan on having base camp at 2 harbors....riding a mtn bike to parsons...then riding to Avalon and back with stops at airport and lil harbor....might even do some freediving off isthmus cove
sounds like a great trip and perfect time of year for that
@5:52 did you ride ahead and setup a camera or is there a 3rd party with you doing the recording? Beautiful video. Thanks for sharing.
Ha! Alas it was just the 2 of us but thankfully my friend Dave is patient with the process (and me) and gladly holds my bike while I run up hill for the camera placement.
This looks awesome! Most people have no idea something this beautiful is so close.
Hi, this video was a god send to find. I have done the conversion but I did buy the giant thru axle, but it only does up halfway into the threads. How far in does the shimano axle go in. I’d feel more comfortable if it went all the to the end of the threads in the bracket. Hoping someone replies as I know this is an old video. 👍
@lockstock2185 I had a look at mine and the TA threads all the way into the receiver part. Weird that yours does not. No offense meant but do you have it installed correctly or the correct part?
@@socaljoe thanks for the reply! Yeah, part ordered from giant, and the thru axle I got is the ratchet dt Swiss one with the giant logo. I measured the shaft of the axle last night and it’s 171mm, the same as the shimano one used in this vid going by the specs I’ve seen. What thru axle are you using? Is the length of the shaft from thread to ridge 171mm? Thank you again!
@@lockstock2185 The specs in the link in the Jensen description says 170mm. Are you installing new wheels? Maybe there “boost”?
@@socaljoe it’s a 142mm dtswiss wheel. Hmm will have to investigate, really appreciate your replies and help
