I think things should be built right the first time, but the full extent of this principle should be applied to public works projects before extending it into private projects. I see bad public work done all the time. For one, the new roads I see are left with manhole covers recessed a quarter foot. I’d fight the city tooth and nail for any hippocracy I’d get.

Yikes. I'm usually forgiving, but this has too many fails. I wouldn't feel comfortable being responsible with this. So, it's a no-pass.

Require an engineer's or architects signature, or take it down and start over with approved plans.

Absolutely a tear down. Keep off! Hard to pick a favorite ignoramus mistake but I think a 1” deck board instead of double 2x10 outer band has to be the winner. Y to he only redeeming feature of this abomination is it should be easy to demolish. Lesson one: hire a pro!

After college, I helped build a big deck for a friend had seating built into the railings on two sides. I tied the seating through the decking directly to the joists. When finished he had a party that turned into an OPEN party, and I watched as maybe 40 people packed the deck and sat all along the railings. I sort of looked underneath looking for any bad signs, I was so nervous...but it held rock steady. All those young years of building tree houses paid off I guess, haha. Later when I built my pavilion in my back year, I used 2 x 12's and 1/2 " bolts. My contractor doing my bathroom at the time said it was, "beefy" haha.
