In some of the levels, since the game can render only so many sprites at a time, some of the levels suffer from objects mandatory for level completion to just go missing if you’re too fast. For that reason, I never bother to finish it on any version

With the clear love pixel art gets, I'd like to see Nintendo go all in on another 100% sprite mario game

This along with Mega Man X are my most replayed games of all time. SMW I have on almost every device/system I own. It's just such a good game.

How is it not good? It just require memorization just like every other ones game. You must hate games like Castlevania, MegaMan, etc

The statue form can kill the flames from the jets on the airship stages.

The leap of faith section isn't true. If you move mario towards the right of the platform, and go back forth towards it, tbr screen will move increasingly to the right to see the enemy

It definitely isn't for everyone. It took me quite a while to 100% it on the SNES version, including the 5 bonus worlds after world 8. I'm surprised you didn't mention how the game punishes you for exploration with its backwards warp zones.

The only complaint I have about Super Mario World is that the spin jump button isn't mapped to the right shoulder button. Luckily this was done in the game boy advance release.

I just watched a 12 minute video that can be summarized in one sentence. "I don't like this game because I'm bad."

I beat 8 worlds full or rage on Wii in 2006. I didn't even care I didn't get A through D.

I beat it no problem as a kid when super mario all stars came out. It's funny how Lost Levels has more challenge in it than all modern mario games put together, in a good way too. Mario Wonder sucks

I was a snoopy kid. I saw the system with SMW in a closet at my dad’s cousins house. I asked if I could borrow it. The cousin said he was saving it for when his kid got older. His kid was like 2. In my 8 or 9 year old mind I was all, “why leave something alone when it can be used”. I was able to at least play it there eventually. OH MAN. What a day. Then, had to sell my NES with all my great collection of game to get a Super NES of my own. Great sad memories. Peace!-)

Smb3 to SMW is a regression. Is a great game but yoshi slows the game down. 3 is more of a pure platformer and has the best mysterious energy and powerups. Cape is mid.

not only the greatest 2d mario game but the greatest mario game ever and no other game in the series even comes close. also one of the greatest games of all time. a perfect 10/10

I enjoyed the video, but I do have one suggestion - your audio balance is off. The intro game audio is rather loud compared to the audio of you speaking. You might consider increasing your mic volume in the mix for future videos. I hope to see more in the future!

Super Mario World is a timeless classic, over thirty years and this game still awesome like was when released! This classic aged like fine wine!

The Mario All Stars version of lost levels wasn't too bad. In that version, you could retry each level as many times as you want, after getting a game over. Compared to SMB 1 where you had to start the world over again. The 2 games felt fairly balanced difficulty wise this way, but with Lost Levels being harder. It's definitely DLC for after finishing SMB 1, 2, 3, and World though. Probably after Land and 2 as well. But a great game if you finshed all of those and want more. The harder stages in Mario Maker has replaced this game for the modern times though.

Good review! Yeah, Super Mario World is still a gold standard for 2D platformers more than thirty years later! It hits all the right notes and the controls are incredibly tight! The '90s was a great time for video games! Sonic 1 for the Genesis was released the same year and began the Great 16-bit Wars between Nintendo and Sega! 😄

I’d say the NSMB games tried to be more like SMB3 rather than the original. With SMW having some influence in U in the form of baby yoshi’s and some of the enemies

Still holds up thirty years later

I'm going to be honest. Super Mario World has a great soundtrack without a doubt. However, I believe that Koji Kondo's best work in this era of the Mario series is in Yoshi's Island. Edit: I always hated the fact that a lot of SNES games made jumping B and running/attacking Y. It's one of the reasons I prefer the GBA version of both mainline SNES Mario games.

I always play as Luigi because his higher jumping really comes in handy, and I think I can handle his sliding fairly well.

Actually, usa and Europe never got the true "mario 2" and instead got a re branded doki doki panic. I hated nintendo for this because the reason behind why they did this was because they thought the "real" mario 2 aka the lost levels was too difficult for anyone else outside of Japan. I hate "mario 2" with a passion. It's the worst Mario game ever imo

Ah, the game that got me into gaming as a whole. I'll occasionally boot this game up and have a quick run. That said, he did miss one detail about the Tanuki Suit -- the statue form is capable of killing certain foes that the fireballs and hammers can't, such as the Rotodiscs in the Fortress stages.

Super Mario Bros. 3 doesn't display any more pixels than its predecessors. Missed opportunity to talk about some of the graphical improvements it does bring to the table, like 4-way scrolling and animated tilesets. But in terms of resolution or palette, the game offers no improvements; Mario looking better is much more an art direction thing.

Lost Levels is insanely hard and I've never once wanted to play through it. But calling it bad is ridiculous. The Lost Levels is pretty much what inspired Mario rom hacks and gave life to the speed running community being as competitive as it is. It's a game I'd classify as "absolutely not for everyone" but I have to respect what it is.
