I’m working on a WD 45 with my dad. He knows the 45s inside and out. I love your attention to detail. These videos are extremely informative. Well done.
Thanks for watching. I'm glad you are enjoying them.
Put a coolant filter kit on that iron engine with a zinc plug
Did you replace the bearings?
No, I didn't. I basically just got rid of the surface rust and put it back together. The bearings were still good.
❤❤
I'm about to try and get one of these running again. It's a beautiful tractor
I've also heard of people using Pine Sol in their ultrasonic cleaners as a cleaning medium.
You can use almost anything. My next purchase is going to be a larger ultrasonic cleaner. They work great.
Where did you get that intake, I can't find one.
Some guys got together and got a foundry to make some. There was a limited run and they are no longer available.
I have a bit of everything cheap through to expensive my big mic is a mitutoyo 8-9 inch waiting for it to be sent out
Thanks for making this video.
Am a show off to my friends.. like that.. by the way, am in the training process. 😂
I recently bought a used 2010 Club Car DS with 12” wheels with no lift and the front left tire barely rubs at full turn. Do you think adding a brand new left spring would help with the slight rub on the front tire or am I better off buying new shocks/putting a block to lift it slightly?
Mine did the same thing. I made a 1" spacer and got 4 longer bolts for the front leaf spring.
@@sparksfireandbalingwire8467 Spacer sounds like the way to go
Really appreciate all the work you put into making sure bushings are replaced and that things like the steering, pedals etc are nice and tight. It was cool to watch you machine the shafts and other holes in previous videos. I would love to someday drive an AC that has had the same amount of care put into it as this one and see how much better it feels compared to our fleet of unrestored ones that we use for various things on the farm here in northern Iowa. Also thanks for the vids. I’ve been binging through the entire playlist you put together on this tractor. I have a later WD that they put the WD 45 transmission in in the factory. I will definitely reference some of these videos in the future when I have to take things apart. Especially the starter one! Thanks again!
Thanks ! My goal was to have a "new" tractor when I was done. The results were well worth the effort.
Rebuilding the steering box on a WD45…? You mean cleaning, because there is no one man enough to have ever wore it out
Hey! I replaced the seal...... and the bearing I had to destroy to do it. But good point. Nobody is going to wear one of those out!
Now do the drag lol
I just rebuilt one of these and the governor was not connected. I am trying to utilize the governor again as the g226 runs an irrigation pump and the pipeline it draws from gets air in it sometimes and i dont want the thing to fly appart if this happens. Id like to know if you or anyone in the comments know if when the motor is off with the governor set in its slowest position is the carburetor set at wide open throttle? Also at 7:26 your right hand is on the linkage that connects to the throttle. Do you know what direction it travels when opening the throttle? Like if you manually moved that linkage to the front of the motor would that increase or decrease the rpm? Thanks! Nice build.
With the engine shut off, the carburetor should be wide open. If I remember correctly, pulling the lever toward the back of the engine increases engine speed.
@@sparksfireandbalingwire8467 really appreciate the feedback. Its on the list for tomorrow. Good timming. 🤣👍
That rusty relic still makes prefect parts. As they say, you pay for quality once.
What is the lift and duration of the cam I understand that you can't go to high on the lift info ive seen recommended not exceed 477 is this correct
Cam is the original that was reground. Wound up being .380 lift and 284 degrees of duration. I'm not sure on what max lift would be, but I would imagine pushrod angle will quickly become an issue on these as lift increases.
Thank you for these videos. I bought a 185 used and have been slowly working on it. You provide a great reference!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed them.
Bang up job, it’s as good as new!
Man that is one nice restoration! I have the same lawn mower but it’s not in as good shape. These videos have been helpful for me to learn a little more about my own machine.
Glad you enjoy them!
Nice work Jason! 😎👍 Good call on using the clay to check clearances. Happy wrenching my friend 🔧🔩
Thank you Zane, have a great weekend!
Everything’s goin together like a fine tuned Swiss watch Jason. Too bad they haven’t made a 1 piece design oil pan gasket. Seemed like a little bit of a hassle to get just right, but everything looks so great!👍
Thanks Cody. I'm nearing the home stretch now! For the engine anyway!
Good tech. Nice to someone else building a Poly!
Thanks, I'm trying!
390?
Close! 392 is what I wound up with.
I recently acquired a WD45 and the rear 2-point lift arm system stopped working and there seems to be plenty of fluid. Any recommendations on what I should do next?
FFS Caarl😒
Glad to see it wasn’t all rusted out behind the cover. For being 60 years old it’s in amazing shape back there. The less body work/rust repair you have to do the better!
I'm really surprised that I haven't found any rust other than what I already knew about. Which is more than fine! I have a long enough road ahead of me without the extra work.
wtf just happened here?
what is the lockout thumb screw on the cam of the hydraulic control valve for, mine was rusted so it wouldn't turn
IIRC, it's the adjustment for the traction booster.
Nice work Jason! 😁👍 I've heard those tops can be a bear to deal with 🔧
You heard right! It will be real fun to put back on!
I have painted some wheels with the tires still mounted ,removed the air and used playing cards between the tire and wheel , easy to push in , worked great
I've seen that done.
thought the hole is for the fuel gauge dipstick
There is a lot of debate about that. I think it's for the fuel stick too.
Yesterday I couldn't even spell machinist. Today I are one! That thing is dead nuts. 😂
Do you have any idea which color wire at the ignition switch shorts out the spark?
Not offhand, it's been too long!
Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh Perfect
😂😂😂😂😂
Well done. I haven't done that since the 1990s.
It was the first time for me!
brah... 🤣
Couldn't help myself! Love your videos BTW
@@sparksfireandbalingwire8467 Lol, I love it. I used to have that same Leblond btw, I miss it every day... 😢 And thank you very much! I really appreciate that. 🙏
It’s a lot harder than it looks. That timing wheel is a pretty cool piece of kit. Just like everything else you’ve done to this engine, a little precision and extra effort goes a LOONNG way.👍. Looks like you guys were having a lot of fun🤣
Thanks Cody this was my first time degreeing a cam, as every other engine I've ever built was mostly stock. I was surprised at how far off it was! That would have left a LOT of horsepower on the table.
😅
Pretty funny. I get it.
What intake is that? Who makes it?
It' a CPPA Wind Tunnel intake. They are no longer made. I've had this one on the shelf for years.
Looks like you both had fun with the video! 🤣 Always good to double check just to make sure. Happy wrenching my friend 🔧🔩
Thanks Zane! One more part dialed in.
Do you realize how many people will watch this and have no idea what is happening there? I used to run a Bridgeport and I could get a true zero but this is cheating
The latheworkers will know...
Awesome work Jason! There’s so many steps and small details to remember. I know it’s tedious work but it’ll be worth it when you’re doing burn outs down the road🤣
Thanks Cody, I'm getting there! Have you found any projects?
@@sparksfireandbalingwire8467 I haven’t yet. The problem is finding the right deal on something that isn’t completely clapped out. Still looking for that perfect vehicle. However I was telling Zane just the other day too, I’m chomping at the bit to get my hands on another project vehicle.

Dont understqnd
The diagnosing video when the engine was still in the car, you found the intake valve not opening. What caused the low or no compression? What did you find when you tore the engine apart?
The original engine is still in the car. I don't yet know what caused the compression loss . I will be making a video of it when the time comes!
@@sparksfireandbalingwire8467 Ok, looking forward to seeing it. Thanks
Does anyone know a part number for the shaft seal in the gearbox? This is different than a Ross Gearbox on a B series tractor as the shaft diameter is larger on a C series tractor.
