I like the way you say "The real ego", because alot of people think an ego is something undesirable but really it's more akin to our sense of self, and we need our egos, ... we just need healthy egos. And people talk about 'destroying someones ego' like it's a good thing but it's probably the worst thing anyone could do to someone, and it's what narcissists often do to their 'victims'. As for determining who is a proper narcissist and who isn't, one needs to refer to the criteria in the DSM because as you say, we all have narcissistic traits, so it can be confusing.
