    For the first time in 18 years I fell off the wheelchair yesterday Friday, 5/31/2024 around 7:20 pm. I rarely forget to buckle the seatbelt when I'm on the wheelchair. 18 years 4 times the most. I went to pick up a garbage to throw in the trash can and bend down to the floor too fast. I saw the wall zooming in fast, a quick white flash and I'm on the floor. The body natural instinct is to close the eyes. The whole time my eyes was open. Wall to face like Inoue got Knocked down by a left hook to the chin by Nery in the first round. It's happening. Grand Master Martial Artist teaching in Heaven is training me. Closing the eyes you are missing a second. Process him as you go along. See your opponent all the way is what teacher is saying. I will remember the wall Master. I'm getting all Laser Lasik Eye Surgery 20/20 vision in case I get Punch in the eye breaking my eyeglasses and going blind. Or get my contact lens Knock-out. Slam my face on the wall Knocking-out my eyeglasses, a bloody nose with blood on the wall and Starter gray v-neck t-shirt. My instinct is to put the arm out when I fell. It lessen the impact. Leaning against the wall at a 90 degree angle stuck for a good 11 seconds trying to push free 3 times but couldn't. Lucky I have a durable eyeglasses frame and a special order lens to be dense to the thinnest. My prescription power is 6 point something and I can't see. It's very blurry without my glasses and didn't break going blind cutting my left eye. Just a bent nose pad and reposition it back. Washing my face the next morning I feel a bump on the left side of the forehead. I look in the hand mirror by rubbing my face on the wall. It took a piece of skin on my left nose. Bruised elbow, a dark red bloodshot and purple bruised upper left bicep, bruised left thigh with an aching shoulder and neck til morning. A month and 1 day Saturday, 7/6/2024 for the purple bruised bicep is about gone. My father heard a rumbling crash (wheelchair) while drinking in the garage and asked what is that? I said: "I fell." The loud bang was my face hitting the wall, I heard it in my head. Father and big brother had to pick me up to bed. My sister has turned the garage into a living space for me and my father.🐺

    w/c tires are specifically sized for rims that are manufacturer specific... so buying a 24 inch tire for and Invacare (for instance) 24" rim might not lead to successful install of tire. Yeah, you might be able to cut cords, force-stretch etc. but that is not good practice. Order the tire specific to the rim, using manufacturer, size and specifics about the rim, air or non-air. That way you get the right tire for the job and have a good, safe install. And the install is easy that way; no struggle.

  • @newsolutions100
    @newsolutions100 Před 8 lety

    purkjason, you are partially correct. In order to put the urethane tires, that are notched on the inside, you could put a small length of pvc sprinkler pipe over the peg that the tire rides on, thus making the peg bigger than the notches it needs to go over. A little lube will help but it should make it easy. I'll try to make a new video showing it.

    • @gkess7106
      @gkess7106 Před 5 lety

      Nope. They don’t stretch unless some hydraulic machine is used. Notched and corded tires will not install by hand. The plastic rim will deform trying.

    • @gkess7106
      @gkess7106 Před 5 lety

      Heating the tire makes the rubber slightly more pliable but the cords in the tire will not stretch. With half the tire mounted in the rim, the remaining tire will cross the wheel only a few inches above the axel. No amount of force from two adults, one using his foot to turn the wheel, the other his arms, will mount the tire. Progress we thought we were making just turned out to be the wheel deforming - folding over on itself. The tool we used was actually a double frame where both ends of the axel rod and outer rod was supported on both ends. Very strong. Stronger than the wheel, but not the tire. Don’t be fooled by the videos showing tires sliding right on like it was a bicycle tire. Corded tires are not floppy. They are not flexible. No CZcams videos show these tires being installed by hand. Don’t buy these tires with DIY in mind.

    Hopefully you have some advice. I have a Permobil C500 Stander and need to change the drive tires out. I was able to chang the back casters but had trouble finding a way to pull the drive wheels after removing the tire bolt. I found a manual online that mentions using a puller if the wheel isn't wanting to come off but I can't find one of these pullers anywhere. I even did a Google search for the model number of the puller and got Zero results. I don't have a company close by to do it and if I can just get the wheels off the chair, I already have the tires and can do it myself. Any ideas on how to pull the wheels? Thanks

    • @newsolutions100
      @newsolutions100 Před 8 lety

      +Stephen Quick I had the same problem with a Quickie 646. I just got a standard wheel puller like they use on steering wheels. Tightened it on there a gave it a crack with a hammer and it popped off. I've seen it done with a 2x4 wedged behind the wheel and smack the center with a mallet. Good luck some of these are real stubborn. Be careful you don't break the wheel!

      I made my own tool but still could not get the tire on, then realized it was corded. I cut all the cords and it went on in seconds. Next time with a corded tire I would cut every other set of cords around the tire and see if it goes on. Since the cords keep the tire tight to help the tire stay on. I am guessing the factory has a pneumatic machine to get corded tires on???

    This New Solutions M40E "DOESN'T WORK " if you are using rubber tires that are ribbed in the interior edge and also have cords inside them. I tried for an hour even using ties and heat gun as well with no luck whatsoever. Thought this would be cost efficient for the nursing home I work at but it looks like I'm gonna have to purchase entire wheel assemblies at $110 each side .... bummer. This would work great if you use non ribbed no corded rubber tires just like the video shows I guess.

    I tried putting a "Shox" brand 26" tire on a 26" wheelchair rim. When I lay the tire on top of the rim at the start of the mounting process, the outside edge is just barely beyond the inside edge of the rim as if the tire was 24" in diameter instead of the 26" that is indicated on the sidewall. The tire in your video seems to be able to stretch but mine will not. There is almost no give at all in terms of stretching. Warming the tire and zip ties didn't work. Do you have any suggestions?

    I know sometimes the rear wheels are pressed onto the axle. Quickie has a tapered axle so you need a wheel puller to get it off the chair. Even then we used a 2x4 behind the wheel and smacked the loosened nut the pop it loose. Invacare comes off easier. Then getting the tire off the wheel sometimes take s a screwdriver or a mallet to get it off. Sounds like I need another video addressing that. Thank you for your viewing.
