Finding Moose Signs & More (Quick Tip from New Outdoors)
I hunted Quebec for over a decade. We useta drive up & bait two weeks before hunting going in to hunt. We'd hang a stink bait (compound bucket hung up in a tree with fish drilled cap & bucket so rain would fill & drip scent up the woods) get expired cakes pies treats of all types for in the barrel. Then pour frying oil over & all in front of the barrel so the 🐻 would step in it & track it all over the timber. I useta do honey Burns while hunting along with sprays powders scent stick & some lures. 👍🏻🐻💯 Great Fun.... Great video.. 🏹
Once you get your bow sited in at 20 I’m guessing you just uses the next cross hair up for 30 and so on and on
great stuff, thank you!
Who doesn't love bacon. Great spot right there!
Awesome!
So what about the adjustable magnification does that change the zero on the scope?
'promo sm' 🤘
Awsome video!
I know it's a steady pull on the neck of that ball hitch but I'd use a recovery tool in the 2" receiver box and then connect my winch to that.
Great vid Rob. Shows a nice variety of techniques for some beauties. Glad that you mention digital or paper maps. Can't afford electronics so paper works just fine if you can get them and know how to read them. Do you know any good online resources for Quebec lake charts? Thanks pal. Tim
Hey Tim! Have you looked at Navionics? I believe it's $30/yr and covers all publicly accessible lakes in Québec. Thanks for the comment!
Rob do you have to you stink bait for initial starting of a site?
Hi Jamie, you don't have to but it can bring bears to a new spot faster. I'm holding a "bear camp" this spring at Mer Bleue. You should come check it out!
When is the camp in? What is it? Is it like a training session?
@jamiebarone9262 , yes it's a 5 day bear hunt where I show everyone exactly what I'm doing and why. Info is under the events tab at www.newoutdoors.net.
Great video Rob
And you are using a dime why??? The turets are adjustable by hand!
I like my military surplus gear but that my choice everyone is different
Good bang for the buck for sure!
Hello I would like to know do you have a link to buy this call model that you have in your hands I would be interested in buying one
kencapling.com/ There you go! Best of luck!!
They seem to follow their SIGHT to the camera but maybe not We leave scent everywhere we go and it does not just stick to the cameras PLUS bears do this to cameras that are not on bait stations so there's no sent of food. Some bears check out cameras every time they walk by them and only sometimes chew on them even when the camera has been out in the wild for 6 months. So what is the real reason bears are so interested in cameras??? I'm thinking it might be the smell of the camera itself (what it's made of) that does it. They smell (maybe) 7 times better than a bloodhound but we dont know what it is they are smelling that catches their interest. Is it both male and female bears doing this? Plastic has estrogen like chemicals in them - plasticisers such as bisphenols that even we humans can smell.
Really was spot on, I hunt black bear in Arkansas and am going on a hunt in November and agree using sweet bait is more appealing, here we have persimmons, pears, muscadines, etc. I also like using dried molasses, koolaid, blueberry & cherry pie filling and sugar! Thanks again for the info and good hunting!
Thanks for your comment and good luck!
I hunt in nc and it’s illegal to use processed foods, all I know I’m able to use is like corn and apples. What else is there to use?
Could you mix the corn with molasses or fyer oil? Not sure what qualifies as processed foods...
Sweet potatoes and peanuts .
@rylanloggins5933 I'm not sure what the definition of processed foods are but you could always focus on liquid or smoke type scents to help draw the bears into whatever foods you are allowed? Things like vanilla extract, commercial smoke sticks or aerosols may work if legal to use?
The one thing I would add for your viewers, us that when loading your bolt, no matter how briefly you may think is ok, NEVER put your fingers in the path of the string! And never push the bolt in with your hand in the path of the bolt. It only takes once to teach a valuable lesson!
Good point and very true! Thanks for the comment. Can never be too careful!
Surprised these videos aren’t getting more views. Informative, engaging, and good videography too. Keep it up man
Might be nice to pull electrical service wires
It would work but If your line is too small or it gets crossed then it starts working like a regular winch spooling up your rope on the real , so your rope has to be large enough so that it doesn't cross But then enough to be useful for conduit , basically you could use it with 8 or 9 mm climbing rope.
Why didn't you just pull the dock out of the water using your truck (without the winch)? It would have been a lot faster with less dinking around.
Because the winch is much more fun!! Honest answer is it was new and I wanted to start using it on something. I do think the truck would have torn up my yard much more than by using the winch....
What kind of face cover are u wearing sir ? I've never seen one like that....
The Quaker Boy mesh mask with wire rim for around your eyes. Hope that helps!
I believe you are supposed to zero at 40, not 20. On this scope I mean. I have the scope myself. Love it!
Most of the scopes with speed adjustment tell you to zero at 20 and then adjust the speed dial from 40 to fine tune the drop.
I just ordered this winch with rope and accessories for $1300. I plan on pulling game animals out of steep draws in the mountains.
You'll love it!! I'll be using mine for moose in the next few weeks. Good luck!
Have you used it on an animal yet? I’m thinking of buying one.
Why wast your time draging a barell just hang your bait that way you know whats hitting the bait
With the trail cameras we know what's hitting our bait. In my experience the barrels help keep the bait fresh and keep other critters like raccoons and squirrels from stealing all the goodies.
You are showing your set up and the bow is on fire?
And he turns around and Mom bear is standing there with 2 big cubs.... where is your pistol ? I mean an unarmed waiter at a bear buffet might not live long.
Check your regulations dog food, meat, and bacon grease are illegal in Wisconsin just an fyi. Othertips were good
Great video 👍
Thanks Brian!
This is the best « tutorial » for bear bait I have seen so far. All of the informations I have seen in other videos is there to start bear baiting
Thanks very much! We hope it helps those looking to get started. I appreciate you commenting!
Why not run a tarp over the bait to keep the rain out?
Never tried but I imagine the noise and flapping would bother or scare the bears and they would just tear it down. I try to keep my bait sites as quiet and natural as possible.
how much this?
Best is to go on the Portable Winch website to find your nearest dealer as different retailers may have different specials or pricing.
Very good information have used these techniques myself. I even take a bottle of molasses into the tree stand and dump it allover prior to my hunt. Not sure if it masks my sent but I had success doing it this way.
Thanks for the comment Bob! Good luck this year.
Could one of these scopes works on a rifle? 🤔
Not designed for the recoil a rifle produces and the pre set crosshairs would be of no value. Short answer is no. Vortex make a wide variety of rfle scopes that would be a much better choice!
@@NewOutdoors thanks a lot 👍
Thanks for this!!! Very informative! Awesome
awesome
Love it!!!
here to learn...cut the lousy music out
So if I have it sighted in at 20 will it be already sighted in at 30 and 40?
That's correct. If using the Crossfire II crossbow scope, you'll actually see the numbers 30 and 40 on the notches below the 20 yard crosshair.
Great tips.
Love it
Excellent
It wasn't a bear that I had a problem with. It was a coyote that chewed the strap off one of my game cameras. Luckily he just chewed the loose end of the strap but that made me have to replace it because afterwards it was too short for larger trees.
Wow, first I've heard of that?! I always tie off the loose ends to not attract the bears but I never thought of coyotes...thanks for the comment.
@@NewOutdoors Here in NW Georgia, we don't have many bears. I've never seen one and only got a picture of one in over 20 yrs. However, we have an abundance of coyotes. My computer crashed about 2 months ago and I lost the pictures I got of him. The first was a closeup of his head...mainly one eye. He was an evil looking S.O.B. I got 4 pictures of him and the last picture was him walking away carrying the end of the strap. However, payback is hell. A few weeks later while deer hunting, he happened to walk into the path of a .308 bullet. At least I think it was him and he was definitely a big ole boy. Probably in the 50 to 55 lb. range.
@@reb1050 ha, ha... Karma!
I have the battery powered version. I move cars around the lot with it when I'm by myself. I've also pulled a car from the snowy ditch as well. Very helpful tool to have!
100%! It's amazing what you use it for once its sitting in your garage or truck.
this is not how vortex sets up with this scope on their you tube channel and per instructions this isnt accurate..not trying to be rude but i just got this scope so i am new to the speed ring and came across your video..
Hi Joe, I watched the video I believe you're referring to. I would never suggest you don't follow Vortex advice for a Vortex scope. In my set up video I basically offered a simplified version and you're right, I zeroed at 20 yards and not 40 as they did. I approached this video from a deer or bear hunting perspective where I would never recommend shooting over 40 yards. Every situation is different and shooting at targets or possibly moose (larger, slower game) may allow for longer range shots but the set up I offered should work very well for anyone shooting at 60 yards or less. Thanks for your comment and good shooting!
Very Nice! 🙌🏼🎣
Nice video. Brings back good memories from our fishing trip in 2018.
Not that familiar with scopes. According to the directions for the scope on my new Center Point cross bow one click equals 1/4 of movement at 100 yards which should mean 1/16 of a inch at 25 yards. How are you getting such considerable movement of an inch or so by just making a few clicks?
You're right! The closer you are to your target, the more clicks you have to make to see a difference on your point of impact. You'll really see the difference at longer ranges but not so much at 20 yards or less.
Well done!! Looks yummy.
