Scooter Kill-Switch Modification Battery Issues E5 Error with Dog Chase!
My Gyrocopters Flash 3.0 scooter has been having sporadic power failures even after apparently fully charged and showing 5 bars battery. In this video I install a "kill siwtch" (or 2 to be more precise) to simply allow a full reset of the controller because it freezes and won't come back to life until I unplug and then plug back in the battery (which is hard to access). In the process of making the video and testing the scooter, I must have left the door slightly open and the dog managed to get out and chase me down the street, but all ended well as I noticed and he followed me home. Meanwhile I still haven't figured out what is going on but I suspect the battery is toast and the BMS circuitry inside is shutting it down because some cells are probably bad. However, a new battery at $199 is hardly worth it when the entire scooter new is $349. I'm not sure what to do, change the battery or just buy another scooter from a better brand!

Someone just gave me a Paolo Soprani accordion, I've played bass(electric and double) for years but put it down 15 years ago to start a business, been having a hard time getting back into music but just started playing again(on my 76 Gibson Thunderbird) running scales/old songs. This lady said the accordion was her fathers and she'd like to give it to someone who will play it, and, well, I was very intrigued so I took her up on her offer. I never played one before and it's a bit intimidating, I'm pretty fascinated with it though. Looks to be a good quality instrument, made in Italy, not sure how old it is but looks somewhat vintage.
How do you treat this
Did you have a Freudian slip? You stated you found it but in the video when you found battery you said it might have been tracking you.
What are you doing to your cuffs that they keep leaking? Are you putting serious creases in them repeatedly? I've seen these cuffs last almost twenty years.
There is a good chance cuffs that were made 20 years ago were of better quality material, so they have lasted. Lately they have been worsening quality. I am using them as directed, not bending them, they are lightly used. I don't know why they leak but when they do it's cheaper to buy another entire unit than try and replace only the cuff. Repairing the cuff is also a mess because it's all wrapped inside of fabric so to get it out and put it back in properly is not easy or practical considering the time involved.
when I tried to open my tractive device (button not responsive, light and sound not working, was charging though) it heated up and then smoke started to come out and the housing melted. seems that the battery exploded, I don't understand why.
It sounds like at some point you shorted the battery. If you were prying it open with a metal instrument it could have contacted the battery terminal and caused a short circuit, the battery started to discharge quickly and heated up. Also could be that prying it made the circuit board contact another metal component inside, once again it could have caused a battery short. Either that or you engaged the self-destruct mechanism! 🤣
I have the exact same model and would say a similar problem. Mine would sudden die if i went fast (above 20km) but would be alive again after i pluged and unplugged the charger. So i dont think it has something to do with the battery as it still showed 5 bars after. One thing I noticed tho is that when I set it to a constant speed, sometimes it would sudden came to an abrupt stop and lose the constant speed. I guess it has something to do with the motor/ throttle maybe? Mine also showed a E3 error. Let me know if anyone had this issue as well!
My scooter wouldn't come back to life until I completely unplugged the battery from the controller. This is why I ended up installing those switches, so I wouldn't have to open up the entire bottom of the scooter each time. Unplugging/plugging to the wall charger alone didn't help bring the scooter back to life. Even with all I did, the battery doesn't seem to be holding a proper charge or providing adequate power. It will charge up and show high voltage initially but then under a little bit of load driving the motor it will drop quickly and significantly. I think that is what was happening... It would ride a few minutes then die, but to the point where it wouldn't let me start it up at all until I unconnected everything inside. I'm pretty sure the battery is cooked or at least one of the cells inside is bad and causing the battery management system (BMS) on the battery to not want to use it, resulting in a permanent shut-off for safety reasons (which perhaps is reset when I unplug it internally). If I could test another battery that would be great but I'm not shelling out $200 just to find out something else is wrong with the scooter. The only other option is getting it to a GyroCopters service center to let them test it out or sending in the battery. Either way, it's going to add more and more cost on a brand new scooter that cost me $350 not even 1 year ago. That's a huge waste of money. I'm not going to get burned again with this. If you end up figuring out how to fix yours let me know!
So obviously self taught. Your left hand technique is terribly wrong.
It is true that I am self taught but if you have any suggestions on how to improve my left hand technique, please let me know or point me to a good tutorial video online so I can work on it. Thanks!
@@devhackmod Wow, an honest and humble man. So rare.
@@devhackmod You are playing a (very different) type of 3-2 bass fingering which, if you make correct, will do well for you. You should not be playing the alternating root note with your 2nd finger. You WILL find yourself struggling when you get further along your accordion journey. I believe that you will benefit greatly from watching this;- czcams.com/video/sjHCZWdopsQ/video.html In your case, I feel that you would not benefit by changing to a 4-3 fingering. It is better in some ways, but is quite confusing to pick up. There's a lot of noise about using the 3-4 method, but I am yet to be convinced that it is worth all the extra work to learn. You probably will struggle to get out of your current bass fingering habit, but it WILL pay off soon. Please keep in touch and let us see how you progress.

Actually the little nub mouse bottom was quite beloved in a portable laptop system, back in the day. There wasn’t no sort of track pad built in them that anyone would be inclined to wanna use. It was basically that or some sort of built in clumsy track track ball or whatever propriety mechanism they had built in, if any.
They don't make them like that anymore! Still a solid system that works, tough as a brick. Fun to pull out of the closet every now and then and boot up!
@@devhackmod Yeah, it’s a perfectly reasonable cursor interface, it had acceleration smoothly proportionate to how hard you press it in any particular direction. I frequently find myself gaming with it and forgetting I’m not using any other mouse or one of my preferred 🖲️ trackball, or anything conceivably better.
I think I remember mine have a janky slow refresh screen rate, but, circa 2002-2004 I was the only high schooler I knew in school that even owned a laptop of any sort, and didn’t even know any better, and was just privileged enough to be able to play Age of Empires on the school bus. 😂
Man I still own an RCA Voyager III, this was Walmart's to go Tablet brand before they decided to add tablets to their ONN brand, I got mine one Black Friday sale many moons ago and in my case it was running Android 7 Nougat and just like yours probably slow and just to run light tasks.
They really built this thing down to a price! A friend ended up buying a whole truck load and gave me a bunch, the quality control sucked. Some don't have working sound, some don't record (microphone bad or missing). I remember he complained to me about stuff like this. I opened up a few to see what is going on, still can't figure it out. Seems like maybe he got a batch of returns or rejects. In any case, it's fast enough for light tasks and watching lo-res movies in MPG format but forget about playing HD MP4's using VLC Player on them. It's just way too slow. Good to browse the web, listen to music/MP3 files but not so much for CZcams as any higher-quality videos will significantly slow it down. eBooks/PDF files will read fine. I'm sure back then, and especially today, you could get a much better device for the same or slightly more cost so I'm not so sure this thing was even a good deal, to be honest. It seemed overpriced given the lousy specs... I would have expected it to be much much cheaper.
Unique design
Unique is true! However, I can tell you I can't stand the inverted LCD (white on black) design they are pushing on all the watches these days, so I ended up peeling off the polarizing filter on the top layer and flipping it over to get a black-on-white (negative) effect for the LCD display!
What was the resistor value? I have the same one with a burned resistor. I put one in it but it doesn’t look like the right one. The fuse on mine is also burned but I want to make sure I have the correct resistor too.
Looks like Brown-Brown-Black and then Gold-Black (if you look at the video in HD 1080p and freeze it around the 3:00 mark). The Brown-Brown-Black would seem to indicate 11 Ohm, and Gold is +/-5% tolerance. Not quite sure why there is another Black band after the Gold. Those are the colors I see but I could be wrong, unfortunately the lighting wasn't all that great. Let me know what you find out.
2 reasons why it’s not turning on u had the charger on and ur supposed to hold the button not click it
Yes correct, I didn't hold down the button long enough in the video before I cut to the next shot. However it still didn't work even if I did hold it down with charger unplugged. It wasn't until I disconnected the battery internally and then reconnected it that I was able to bring the scooter back to life. That's why when I was riding and then it died on me suddenly, I had no way of turning the scooter back on, no matter how long I pressed the button. It was only after I took off the bottom panel to access the battery and disconnect and then reconnect it that it somehow reset. But even after all of this it's not really working as I believe the battery is toast and while it looks like it's holding a charge it quickly dies.
My question is how did you get the insert off???😂
Use of the slide rule gives you a much better appreciation for the numbers and methods of mathematics than using a calculator. The calculator will give you answers, but to so many digits that it is not possible to know if the answer is reasonable or not. I love using a slide rule.
There are many advantages with a slide rule. For one, it makes you think to estimate what the answer should be because you'll need to keep track of and know where to put the decimal! It also teaches you about how logarithms work, and keeps you from blindly just accepting what a calculator tells you. It's too bad they are not used anymore just to learn on, even if we have calculators. Same goes for the Soroban which is also fun to use.
Ty so much it’s finally working
How did you fix it because mine keeps going dead!
It spies on you and how you drive. Reports to Toyota for "diagnostic purposes" and they sell it to insurance companies and they raise your rates due to the driving habits the DCM module keeps track of and transmits.
While I'm sure that is technically possible, I'm not sure your car manufacturer would give this out to 3rd parties unless they record all the data and make it available for purchase by insurance companies (and others) who want to look up their policy-holder's driving habits. But if that was the case, insurance companies wouldn't be asking people to install apps on their phone to track driving or giving them monitoring devices to plug into the ODB2 port to receive discounts. Either way, it's scary how much data they gather and whether it can be abused to track people unknowingly by law enforcement, government and others (without proper legal processes).
@@devhackmod It goes a lot deeper than you think. czcams.com/video/Nad4CLg6F-o/video.html They are denying claims based on historical vehicle data they are quietly collecting.
May have accidentally dropped it going home or something..
Yes, not quite sure why it would be in the middle of nowhere.
I have had a PL-310Et for some time now. A great little radio, with huge performance which I use when on holiday away from home. The Tecsun wind-up antenna really makes it sing.
It's a nice radio! I learned a trick the other day, I didn't know (I'm sure there are others). If I want to dial in a station, I can just type "4" and "ENTER" key and it will jump me to 4000 KHz. If I type in "4" and "8" and "ENTER" it will jump to 4800 KHz. If I type in "9" and "ENTER" it will jump me to 9000 KHz, and so on. This way I can quickly jump to a range in the band without typing as many digits. I use it every night, fall asleep to the sounds of shortwave radio broadcasts and sometimes just static because as I fidget with the tuning knob to find a station the white noise ends up making me fall asleep! Using NiMH batteries they last me a long time, always keep another set charged up and ready to swap. Great little radio! The only thing I miss with it is SSB mode which would be handy for picking up some of the HAM's but I have my RTL-SDR for that which I use on my computer.

Yes definitely a high quality replica will definitely be a better value and last longer.
So would the way to fixing the scooter be replacing the battery?
Yes, it sounds like the battery is going to need a replacement. Everything seems to point to the battery not having capacity, likely because one or more faulty cells are not charging and this signals the BMS to shut things down. Unfortunately a replacement battery is $200 for a scooter that cost $350. If I could buy a 3rd-party battery I would, but I'm not sure what quality it would have, whether it would be compatible, if it would have any warranty, and if it would really be any cheaper!
Excellent sound!!!! (Model 1993)
They don't make systems like this anymore. Sadly people are trashing them for basically no reason so I'm happy to put them to good use! Over 30 years old and functions better than some systems today!
I clipped my buzzer and now my microwave wont turn on. what the heck man.
Are you sure you cut the right cables? I would connect back the buzzer and see if it turns on. Maybe when you took your microwave apart you forgot to connect something back?
I would be grateful if those who know about these things would tell me how they work. Specifically I am wondering why I have to pay monthly for the tracking service, and whether it's possible to somehow hack this to switch to a mobile phone I have. This question may seem odd because I'm not even sure how to formulate it, I don't have the necessary understanding of the technology. I am just looking at this and thinking that it communicates with local cell towers, in the same way a mobile phone does. If that is the case, and the company charges a subscription service, then it seems like it's using the same tech as a phone. As one can switch cell providers, I'm wondering if this could be messed with to accept a sim I purchase. Again I apologise for the absolute ignorance of this question. I am only trying to understand how the tech works.
You are asking all the right questions! Yes it appears to be using a local cellular tower data connection, much like cars use for telematics services (On-Star, GPS tracking, etc). Ultimately somebody has to pay for the data carrier and so the company making the tracker needs to pass on that charge to the end-user. You will notice on the "uBlox" package there is an IMEI number which is a unique number identifying each mobile device. No matter what local carrier is used (and it may be hard-locked by Tractive based on region, I don't see a "SIM" or any way to change this), it requires a cell-tower to work. You can't just make it communicate with your phone (and even if you could use some BlueTooth feature, the range is way too short). This is something Tractive would have programmed into the devices and arranged contracts with carriers and costs for data services at the time they engineered this, or perhaps can change on their end, but the user has no way to modify anything.
@@devhackmod I believe you have been very kind and charitable with your reply when dealing with someone who is obviously quite ignorant of these things. To clarify...would someone be able to utilise the hardware and create their own little custom GPS tracker? Or is it somehow locked in a way that only Tractive can use it? Again I apologise for what I assume are grossly ignorant questions. You may have to dumb this down for a biologist (which is what I am).
I bought a new Kenwood microwave from Currys the first thing l did was remove the casing then cut the wire on the piezo buzzer.
Right on! Long live the silent microwave!
@@devhackmod 👍
And the battery pack does actually contain what's known as a management system, BMS which monitors the voltage of each cell within the battery pack and if any of the cells are out of spec the BMS will completely shut its charge input and main out put down.
I have a feeling one or more cells in the battery are toast and this is causing the failure. The power on the scooter is unreliable... charging appears to work but then it fails to output much capacity, voltage drops way too quickly. This is less than 1 year old scooter, it's a shame.
The controller will not necessarily reset each time the battery is shut off, the controller contains a charged capacitor that needs to discharge, and I'm almost certain that the E5 error code has something to do with a connection with one of the hall sensors momentarily disconnecting.
so how would i fix the e5 error ?
Yeah, vehicle theft is the only reasonable explanation. Google says its an onstar unit from a cadillac
Why deface the top of the car when you can just remove the battery from the unit? Surely that would stop any telematics transmission to cellular towers? Or is it just that they need to do it fast and just don't care? The shark-fin is the antenna but the actual unit can be opened and battery removed fairly quickly too. Why remove the antenna and screw up the top of the car if they already removed the telematics unit?
This happened because of them drilling at it. The dentist did it.

No ssd ? No slot either ?
I don't think so, the entire system storage memory is soldered on-board flash memory or some other kind of persistent-storage RAM chip. It is possible to access and read using special devices, but I can't easily swap it out and read it (or use it on another system) which is what I originally wanted to do.
