    Free advice for your goalkeeper: 1. Get off your heels. Your weight should be forward on your toes so you can mkve quicker. From your heels, you have to shift your weight forward first which takes precious fractions of a second that could be the difference between a save and a goal. 2. Bring your hands up closer to your chest. Its easy to move your hands down, because your going with gravity. Moving your hands from a low position to a high ball leaves you fighting gravity the whole way up... Again costing precious fractions of a second. This will also help to fix your posture... Shoulders over knees, knees over toes.

    At the 11:50 and the 12:32 mark your chest isn’t facing the puck or the shooter, not only are you opening yourself up to rib and side head shots, you’re also making yourself smaller and limiting your glove mobility. What makes in worse in these situations is that there is no backside pressure so there’s no passing threat and all you need to do is focus on the shooter.

    Here is the speech I give every new team I play for: The three minutes before the game is to warm up everybody, including the goalie. You aren't going to discover that special deek and perfect it the 3 times you use it prior to the game, more likely you will make a cold goalie pull a muscle before the game starts. Keep them low, keep them hard, I haven't seen a puck in a week and need to get adjusted to the speed of the game. I need to see the clapper and not the triple deek -NerdRageHockey (feel free to use). Seeing as how half the people on these teams never seem to speak English or are pretending to not hear you I look them off when they start stick handling. I also have issues when I do go to stick time/stick and puck and all the skaters out there want to practice their Penalty shot moves. I like to ask them how many times they get Penalty shots vs how many times they get break aways. Practice the break away or I look you off, I don't have time to dilly dally with your between the leg moves that you can't do at speed and never ever use in games anyways, lord knows I could use the practice on break aways.

    I hope this makes sense. When you’re in your stance your fingers on your glove hand are pointing at the shooter (10:55 shows it clearly), which results in your glove taking up the least amount of space. Your palm should be facing the shooter with your fingers pointing to the right or pointing to the ceiling (or anywhere in that 1/4 circle, that feels comfortable), that way your glove is taking up open space. Their 3rd goal (top glove), your palm was facing the ice, and your fingers at the shooter. I had a shoulder injury last year and I hadn’t realized I was doing the same thing until half way through the season.

    • @OhWhatASave
      @OhWhatASave Před 3 měsíci

      Just a stance I was brought up in, more of that old Mathieu Garon style of starting up right and then moving your hand out to catch the puck. But I found myself struggling with shots in close to the body and started rotating early anticipating a shot to the breadbasket that I could hold. Definitely cheating too much on good shooters, and have been working on my mechanics since switching away from my old 60 degree catch angle glove this year.

    In that first goal, at the 4:42 mark, you start retreating from the top of the crease, resulting in you opening up holes for the shooter. Being a small goalie you want to stay at the top of your crease, especially when there is no backside pressure. I’ve watched a bunch of your videos and when you’re aggressive, at the top of your crease, you stop the vast majority. If you look at some of the other shots in this video, when you remained at the top of your crease you saved the shots easily.

I can find 50 channels of x college athlete's and people that still hope they can make the NHL but this is for us old guys that get out there for the love of the game and risk Cardiac Arrest every time we do! Great job keep posting!!! Also your transition to the modern butterfly is great, I am still stuck somewhere between Pro-Fly and Slidy-Fly hoping my new skates will help as soon as I get them burnt in and punched out.

      Definitely a solid mix of younger ex-junior & college guys and old school 40+ guys up here in Maine. And unfortunately for me, I grew up with the modern butterfly, but as the hips continue fusing together that net coverage gets smaller and smaller every year, haha.

      @@OhWhatASave At 52 I can generally get my hip to pop any time I want to. Use it as a party piece. The old pro fly was energy draining going down getting up just to move across the net. I can really appreciate the modern butterfly, just can't do it and old dogs take time to learn new tricks.

    That #8 just flat out ran you over and it looks even worse with what he did later in the game. No penalty and your team shouldn't ran him over right after

    I’ve noticed in a bunch of your videos you drop into an RVH way too early, which you did in the firdt goal. The forward was on his forehand and in a good scoring area, dropping down gave him more openings and hindered your movement. RVH works on wrap arounds or within 5ft of the post, otherwise you should be in your stance. RVH/VH is just like any other save selection that is used under certain circumstances. Hope this makes sense.

      Little bit of a product of over-correction. Had a bad habit of being beaten low at the near post by a quick backhand-forehand move by the goal line in higher level leagues. But am definitely getting down too early as he rounds the circle and still has room to cut back towards the hash marks. Need to wait things out more before just making the first move.
