    When I was a young boy, I built plastic models. As a man, I build 3d virtual reality models that I can walk around in... the exact thing I felt was missing from model building when I was a young boy!!! The tools, materials and processes you're using could have kept me building miniature plastic models!!

    Has the use of EL wire (or EL paper) been investigated? This would be in place of the LED strips. The emitted light from the EL wire is dimmer than the LED's making it more "in scale".

    I've been watching this series since I literally just got this exact same model a few days ago. I haven't done a proper model in about 30 years so I thought why not. I'm not sure if this could help, but wouldn't a clear paint would've workes better for the grills of the warp nacelles? Also can't wait to se how you're gonna clean the excess plastic on the clear bits. 20:49

      Congrats on restarting! Yes the clear is definitely an option. I personally wanted to experiment with a mixed color to make it look like the nacelles were actually activated. Next one will be different. 😁

    When I inserted my shuttle bay on my build last year, I found it slides in MUCH better if you leave out the top clear pieces, and then you can wiggle them into place after the shuttle bay is set. All of this, of course, after removing the front support pins.

    Nice work so far! I hope to see the finished model! I have two recommendations. 1. Use heat shrink on your wiring connections. 2. The Aztecing is incomplete, so I suggest looking into Lou Dalmaso of Aztek Dummy. The masks you are using are overly complicated and Lou's videos are the best. His masks for the 1/350 Enterprise Refit are legendary! Good luck!

    Well, the wife and daughters surprised me with a 1:1000 Enterprise Refit kit and a very nice set of modeling paint brushes for Christmas. After looking at some examples of the finished kit sporting the Polar Lights aztec decal sheets, I think that the aztec decals are just a bit too stark for the scale. So I'm going to place an order for the paint masks and try for a more subtle aztec pattern.

    I have a Polar Lights 350 scale Enterprise in my model stash that I've been meaning to build for the last couple of years, but I'm thinking that building a 1:1000 scale kit would be a good way to practice before trying to tackle "the infamous Big E." as everyone refers to it.

    • @jcmodelcreations
      @jcmodelcreations Před 7 měsíci

      It’s good practice to get your modeling skills up to speed. But, just know that the 1/ 350 scale model is a monster! There’s a lot of parts that need to be adjusted to account for the seams, and some putty work will probably need to be done. The biggest challenge for me was inserting the shuttle bay into the secondary hull. Check out my series on the channel. Thanks for watching!

  • @joehenry9546
    @joehenry9546 Před 8 měsíci

    • @jcmodelcreations
      @jcmodelcreations Před 7 měsíci

      Yes, I tried that with my current build - the 1: 350 Enterprise refit. I’m using the MaskDesign set and that uses transfer paper to weed the patterns onto the ship. It’s a pretty good method.

  • @terrywest111
    @terrywest111 Před 9 měsíci

    This has always been a bit of a question mark for me about the Enterprise refit. I'm aware of the warp engines lighting up a bit when she goes to warp. Sometimes I see them lighting up purple when she jumps to warp. But other times it looks blue. I know that Federation warp engines are blue... but what is the actual canon for the refit Enterprise 1701 supposed to be?

    • @jcmodelcreations

    A few months late but ive noticed through this thay you mention various ways to dim the lights, wethwr that be sand the plastic around the bulb or add some paint somewhere to filter it. I wanted to know why you may not have considered using resistors to help bring down the brightness of a specific bulb somewhere?

    Nice problem solving. I'm also building the 1:350 Refit, got about two weeks worth of work yet but it's been a fun clean build so far and nearing the finish line. When it came to cutting the front main support on the Secondary Hull to fit the Shuttle Bay, I did cut that but also took my Dremel and attached a barrel bit and just grinded enough under the Top Cross support facing down so the Shuttle Bay would slide right in and it didn't un- glue or crack anything. At the rear where the floor of the Shuttle Bay meets the Fan Tail area, I just grinded both pin supports smooth to the floor and cut out small square stock styrene pieces, stacked them a few at a time glueing every two till I got the exact level I needed ( Test fitting before adding more ) for the Shuttle Bay floor to meet the rear edge perfectly...it also makes for a stronger rear support for the Shuttle Bay floor. The yellow landing lines...I used Orbital Drydocks Masking Set and did the Shuttle Bay floor with them...first painting the top of the floor area that will have the lines Gloss Yellow then put my masks on and did my floor color, remove masks and Wa-La lol hope these tips help if you ever build another. Thanks for posting and sharing it's greatly appreciated.

I would have liked you to spend a bit of extra time on how to get the wires out of the secondary hull and into the brass rod as well. Covering points like how much wire do you need, ideas to guide it through the rod would have been great. I also still don't understand the tyre valve part as you never showed what happens with that. I know it sounds like I hated the build, I didn't I got some great ideas for my build. Thanks for putting tis up.

    I think its a gloss coat to apply the decals and then a matte or satin finish after to seal them in it's just a personal preference, I think the matte looks better though

    • @jcmodelcreations

      Thanks! I agree. That’s exactly what I do normally. But on this build, I want to protect the glimmer on the paneling. I feel like the gloss coat would diminish that panel glimmer.

    Enterprise was pearlescent in TMP, it was completely repainted more of a flat white for TWK because it was so reflective that it had blue spill issues from the blue screen.

    • @jcmodelcreations
      @jcmodelcreations Před rokem

      Oh wow. Didn’t know about the blue spill issues in TWOK. I’m actually re-creating the Enterprise from TMP right now using the 1:350 scale model kit from Polar lights. Following TrekModelers paint guide they’re recommending shimmering colors for the paneling and regular white for the basecoat. The shimmering panel colors are what make the hull look pearlescent.

    • @SideSwipeGTA
      @SideSwipeGTA Před rokem

      @@jcmodelcreations The blue spill issues were in TMP. They had to correct individual frames of the movie because of these issues, so they repainted the model for TWK.

      My apologies. I did that off camera. I need to include that next time I build one of these. In the meantime, you can see a few pictures of the process on my Instagram account here: instagram.com/p/CWOfQCsrI9W/

  • @GermanNightmare1976

    Hello, very nice series so far and definitely an inspiration. I was wondering in which order you've done the windows, especially on the secondary hull. Template and drilling first, then light blocking on the inside, then assembly and filling the gaps -- but when and how do you fill the windows with clear when the outside hadn't been painted white yet. (I seem to recall you talking about filling them when the outside still looked black?) That's a bit puzzling to me. Thanks!

    That duck egg blue just doesn't work for me, not on the Enterprise. I don't know why and I've tried several different shades and intensities of blue but I just can't make it work. I just can't make that color work on this ship. Maybe I'll mix some greys or...I don't know.

    • @jcmodelcreations
      @jcmodelcreations Před rokem

      Totally get it. I’ve tried using pre-made duck egg blue paint that’s already out there. But this time around I’m mixing my own. Thanks for watching!

    I tried to build a model of the Enterprise-B that's been sat in my garage for about twenty years recently. It was good fun but I made a ton of mistakes. I picked up this kit and I'm finding these videos extremely useful, so thank you! There's so much "here's my super advanced build with lighting and working transporters" out there that it's good to have something going over the basics, and it's a good kit too (I'm amazed at how much better everything goes together than on my 90s Enterprise-B, and let's not even speak of the AMT Enterprise-A I tried to build in the 90s that collapsed on me). One thing that is bugging me... what on Earth is the difference between 35 and 35A on the decal sheet? It's the "ENTERPRISE" label that goes behind the shuttlebay, but both labels look basically identical except the "A" one is off centered. Anyone have any idea?

    • @jcmodelcreations
      @jcmodelcreations Před rokem

      Thank you for watching! I think you’re right. There really isn’t a big difference between 35 and 35A except for the fact that 35A goes with the enterprise 1701 - A. Not sure why they made it that way. But I’m glad to hear you’re benefiting from the videos.

    • @MrLiamKav
      @MrLiamKav Před rokem

      @@jcmodelcreationsoh yeah, this has been hugely helpful. The build I'm doing of this is going so much better than my Enterprise-B. And I've got at least one other friend to go back to model making and I'm pretty sure they've used your video too! I think I've figured out most of the decals now. I can't figure out what all the circles are by the bridge decals. They're labelled as 47 but they doesn't show up on the box No idea why in today's world Polar Lights can't just have a web page with corrected instructions. Hey ho.

    Very nice, I am building this model right now too, but without the lights. I'm using aftermarket parts for accuracy, but I think it is impossible to make this model look completely accurate.

      Sounds great! Congrats on getting that started. I agree with you - I'm not sure how accurate we can get. Especially since the original was constantly being worked on and modified.
