Thank you! I did it!
thanks a bunch, great concise video
Thank you! Glad you liked it.
Fantastic walk through and explanation. Your video made it all very clear as to why people struggle with these locks. Looking forward to you finding the solution and then opening that sucker 🙂👍
Thanks Roy - me too!
They call this a reverse sidebar. As you said the only way to tension it is by putting pressure on the side bar. You need to use a spring steel for this to hold bends and exert that pressure. You cannot tension the lock through the reset hole. Applying pressure to the reset carriage does nothing. On a side note people would call this a gen 5 or 6 due to them adding keyways. But it is the gen 3 sidebar. ✌🏻🌶
Thanks PickSmith. Pinning that awesome informative comment!
I have not had or seen those before so I can’t help, but I think Gkeyman probably has the best idea & use some feeler gauge of the right thickness
My tools are too weak. Definitely need a better material. Thanks Brett
I've never tried picking any weiner smart keys yet.. I'm glad I watched your video to five me an idea of what I'll have to deal with! Great explanation thank you!
Thank you very much!!
Very nice informative video
Thank you - if only it was accompanied by some picking 😂
Nice video, never seen a Weiser smartkey, I have all gen's of the Kwikset versions. I think the only way to use the reset hole to tension it is if you push the reset shuttle in while picking it has notches that must line up with the shuttle to push it in and the only time there lined up is when the wafers are in the correct positions (unlocked state), but I'm not sure if the shuttle can be pushed back while in the Locked position. good luck, maybe some feeler gage material would work better. have a great day
I’ve seen others use broken .015 picks, but I think mine may have broken too low for that to be useful. I may file one down and see if I can get it to work. Feeler gauge is a good idea - thanks!
Great explanation of this PP! I've seen others do this and some seem to make it look simple to get in the correct spot! I've been leary of this for the exact reasons you've shown! Can't wait to see what you come up with! I have a couple kwikset gen 3's I'd like to try it on!
Thanks! If you figure it out before me, make sure to let me know😅
Great One Guys lock picking look so easy❤
Thank you very much! This lock is pretty easy, but not all locks are like this one. Unfortunately, it’s a pretty common door lock - so people’s houses aren’t as secure as they think. Thanks for commenting!!
I do like it when anon expensive lock puts effort in. Well done them! Nicely opened and I was holding my breath watching you slide the follower through the bible. 🙂👍
I agree - definitely fighting above their weight. I didn’t mean for there to be any suspense, but I feel as though I held my breath as well. I’ve got to get more practice in. I’ve lost some of the little skill I’d acquired. Cheers Roy and have a great week.
Wooow! This is cool!! I just hooe you don’t use these brilliant skills to break into people’s houses 😅. Is it like a puzzle for you kind of like a hobby ?
That’s exactly what it’s like - just little unique puzzles to solve. I was asked to test the security of the door on this particular lock, which turned out to be really good since the plug was faulty 😂😂. I have never one time even attempted to breach security without permission. Thanks for watching!!
I know for some people this would be super easy but believe it or not some people (me) don’t know that. My kids got locked out of their bedroom. I was panicking as I was sure I lost the keys. Little did I know these knobs don’t even come with keys but with a tool that can be replaced by a regular screw driver. Worked perfectly as shown in the video. Phew! What a relief! Thank you for your helpful video.
These are two doors on my own house, but I didn’t test out how to get in until my in laws got locked out of the washroom and took the whole handle off on their washroom door 😂 Glad that this helped you. Take care.
Nice one mate 👍 🍻 🍻 🍻
Easy lock, but still fun. Thank you!
I love Defiant tumblers. They are a lot of fun and you can do a lot with them. Perfect for learning picking and gutting. Nice one PP. 😎🖖
Thanks! I would definitely recommend these to any beginner. They’re quite nice.
Nice one
Thank you very much!
Great job on that! I have a few older used ones of these and after theyve been in service they seem to get really gritty! Most of them ive seen have spools in 1 3 and 5 as well! Thanks for showing the pin interactions!
I didn’t realize that was their pattern. Thanks! I love looking at pin interactions and am always happy to see others show them so I try to include them when I can. Take care!
@PickingPrincipals I love seeing the pin interactions! They're pretty important! I'm not sure this has always been their pattern but from what I've seen with the ones I have and a few others, I think it is now...
Thanks, that is what I needed.
Fantastic! Glad it helped
Very nice! I love finding different ways to get locks!
Me too! I need to find a way to cheaply get some higher security locks now. Let me know if you have any suggestions.
@PickingPrincipals If I ever figure that out, I'll definitely let you know!
how many bands do you have on it?
I don’t think I changed the number they came with. I’m pretty sure that there are 3.
Yes indeed we all like free locks.
I was pretty happy with the haul! Cheers Roy.
I've yet to do it but I'm expecting it soon!
On the Weiser, what is a smart key system? Is that for rekeying?
Yes, you’re exactly right - it is for re-keying, and they are actually quite a challenge (for me anyway) to pick. Check out my video #66 for how they are used. If you want a better look at the interior workings, I pull one apart in video #71
Thanks for the ideas!
My pleasure! There aren’t a lot of top security locks, and no padlocks, but it still gives you something to practice on - and the price is right!
whats that thing you used to separate all the pieces and where can I get one?
Hi @skimwater2617. It’s called a pinning mat or pinning tray. I got mine from Sparrows. Lots of people 3-D print them. You can also find them on Etsy, EBay, or Amazon. @jeffandthings77 pulled cardboard apart to make one even!
@@PickingPrincipals Awesome! thanks so much for the response! Also great guide helped me alot!
Wish i had found you when i was starting, you are a great teacher!
Wow, thank you!
Good advice on getting multiple 410s. Will certainly give you hours of misery 😅. I'm in the same boat with the tools. Tough finding the right pick for the job on these 410s.
I think a nice medium .018 would be okay with a smooth but flat picking surface. No clue really though since I don’t have one 😂
Thank you, You saved me
Glad it helped you out!
Nice job!!
Was a major milestone lock for me.when learning. Can't say I enjoy them now but having picked a few realised how hard the 1st ine i bought was. Nice colour, cool picking, calm as ever
Great picking. I need to get a few more of these to play with.
Thanks LockChuck. They’re good fun.
Well Done, that's a pretty good time. Like I have said before with the 410's and American 1100's they are usually reasonably easy or quite hard. those 410's are great locks to pick because the are riddled with security pins. they feel a bit scratchy but very spooly so lots of action.
Thanks Roy. I really find a light touch is necessary. They have feedback, but it can be pretty subtle. I’d like to experiment with heavier tension to see if I can get more information from each pin and go through the stack fewer times, but I’ll need a different pick since the 0.015 can’t handle it
You did a good job there Bob.
That one took lots of practice! Thanks BrettSucks
That’s a lot quicker than I can pick those..
I’m not one to keep going over the same looks over and over, though I really should so I can get more practice, but I’d love to get these down to an average of under 30 seconds. This was a pretty quick open for me too.
Great job on that! Didn't take ya long at all! These are still on my list to grab! Thanks for sharing that!
Thanks! Can’t wait to see your attempts at these. Take care
Sorry - I was more concerned with getting this picked quickly than explaining what was going on or clearly showing the keyway and tensioner. I’ll try to do better in the future.
Ive been trying to do this for 2 hours. How on esrth are you getting it in a second
Which style? If it’s the first push and turn lock style, just push in and you’ll feel something springy pushing back. If you don’t feel that, you will need to use a longer screwdriver. Once you feel it push back, just turn the handle. For the second type, you should feel the screwdriver drop into the slot. Then just turn and the lock will pop. Hope you get in soon!
Good job buddy
Thanks Brett. Time may go on, but nothing changes with your impossible to find comments! Cheers.
TA DAAA!!!!! And it's open. Just managed to save the wrench from flying 👏👏👏 I know what you mean when you just write have the right pick but have to make do with something close. 🙂👍
Thanks Roy. It’s a bit of a pain since you can feel it right there but it just won’t go. Take care!
Great commentary
Thank you @mcdpoor. It may be the first video that I just chat through instead of narrating. It felt weird 😂
Very nice! You remind me that I should really add to my 410's....since I've only got the poor lonely one!
😂 for sure! One of these is not nearly enough to tell their story. Thanks Jeff!
Great stuff once more!! When i do get one it'll definitely be more than one! This was great advice! Thanks again! And great picking!
Thank you! Hopefully one of the ones you get is a real bear to open. Better hourly investment and really good learning to go along with it
@@PickingPrincipals Nothing wrong with that! I'm sure I'll manage to get lucky like that, with my luck 😂 Love to learn though, so I do hope so!
What abt the push button?
I opened one a while back and if I remember correctly, it is the same as the turn type shown here, but I can’t be certain now. I’ll grab one the next time I’m at a store and check. Sorry for the oversight!
Long time no see. Nice picking.
Thank you very much Downfal1. I hope I can be a more regular contributor again. I appreciate that you noticed! Take care.
Thank you so much for making this video. I just got it in the mail. It doesn’t come with instructions and I can’t find a video by CI that’s says how to put it together and I don’t want to mess anything up by accident so I’m glad you made this video which has helped countless people by now who search for video likes I did to learn how.
My pleasure! Thank you for the kind words. I’m very glad you found it useful. Have fun!!
That was a brutal battle! But tenacity often wins out-nice job! And to get it with such a calm, "there we go." Nice!
Thanks Jeff. I think I need to find a better pick for this style of lock. I’d love an .018 rounded tip medium hook I think. My first open of this lock was not quite so calm 😉
If only my life were different, I would help so many people! It's what we should do!
Thanks @dw03053. We all do what we can. Take care!
Stamina 🕺
Thanks BrettSucks - channeling my inner Mur-Lock and not giving up. Take care.
I've picked several 410's and some have opened real easy and some like this just make you really work for the open. When your tension wrench slipped down I thought "It's the old tension wrench slip which is shortly followed by an open". Not quite but chin to watch you work your way through this lock. 🙂👍
I think I’ve got 5 or 6, and 3 opened up for me and the others have been a real pain. I love the challenge and finesse and fine touch that these locks require. And yes - the movement of the wrench does sometimes immediately precede the open - unfortunately not in this case. Cheers Roy!
@@PickingPrincipals🙂👍
Great job on that! I haven't had a go at one of these myself yet but from what i've seen they can be a beastly pick! Again, very well done and thanks for sharing this! This lock is on my future food for thought list!
Thanks! I’d recommend getting three if you’re getting one as there is a lot of variety in them. None of the ones I’ve worked on have been super easy, but some have really been challenging (like this one)
@PickingPrincipals That's great advice! I might just do that! I like that principle for locks in general, having a few of the same, gives a wider view of that lock overall! I don't care for keyed-alike sets unless giving them away. Thanks again!
I agree - keyed alike aren’t so great except to demonstrate the effect that the machining / tolerances can have on picking and binding order. Cool, but not as fun as completely different locks.
