Why I Don't Recommend Windshield Protection Film (HDR 60p)
In this video, I share my experience with windshield protection film on my Tesla Model Y. If you own a Tesla or any car, you might be considering this type of protection to avoid windshield chips and cracks. Spoiler alert: I do not recommend it, and here's why. From initial installation issues like the orange peel distortion to long-term problems such as scratches from windshield wipers, I'll show you why this investment might not be worth it. I'll discuss the alternatives, reasons why you should get windshield protection film and show before and after footage.

    Death Valley is an interesting choice for camping. That being said, I applaud your pioneering spirit, and it is spending time with your daughter that matters the most. I have a 2022 Tesla Model 3 and I live in Arizona. My Model 3 is the RWD version with 19" wheels which has approximately 260 miles of range. However, when the temperature gets above 105 degrees F, I progressively lose about 60 miles of range because of the extreme heat. In 110-degree-plus weather, my range drops down to about 180 miles. This is typical for Model 3s in my area. We have had a high of 116 degrees F this summer. One criticism: why are you wearing a mask? Cloth masks don't protect you from viruses or germs. Further, data from COVID show that groups that had mask mandates actually had HIGHER infection rates than comparable data groups who did not wear masks. Wearing a mask is not going to protect you. Apart from this one criticism, I am a big fan of you being a loving father to your daughter. Also, great job in providing a large umbrella to protect your daughter's skin. A LOT of parents would not have been that intelligent.

    • @SuperchargedTravels
      @SuperchargedTravels Před měsícem

      Not so important. It is a fallback to not having a 50 Amp service and only gives a slight advantage over a regular 15-amp plug. 6 miles per hour for TT-30 vs. 4 miles per hour for a standard 5-15 plug. Probably not worth the expense. I've never had to use mine.

    you are comfortable with 6% SOC? If you pump that speed up or get a headwind I would assume that would make your life a lot worse. As a native of Utah I would say skip the national parks they get way overcrowded with yuppie tourists. You can see some beautiful stuff at state parks and conservation areas without all the people.Zion's is really a let down. You do it because it's something to do but the crowds take away from the experience.

    • @SuperchargedTravels
      @SuperchargedTravels Před 3 měsíci

      Speed is probably the most important factor in EV efficiency. Drag changes with the speed of travel proportionally to the square of the speed; if you double the speed, the drag goes up by a factor of four. So, if you find yourself anxious about your SOC, you can simply slow down. It may take longer to get there, but it's nice to have this option available if you need it. Thanks for the advice on Utah. It's hard to avoid crowds in any of the popular spots. You definitely need to spend more time planning to avoid them.

Gas isn't as affected by heat vs a all electrical vehicle or is that false? my small Nissan kicks has 330 miles per gas tank... I would need a filled jug of gas with another 300 plus miles in order to feel safe going that far out into the desert

    • @SuperchargedTravels
      @SuperchargedTravels Před 3 měsíci

      Planning is key when driving an EV. Tesla’s navigation is excellent at keeping you informed of your state of charge, predicted range and when you are out of range of the Tesla Supercharger network. Should the worst case happen, as long as you stick to the roads in Death Valley, you will be fine. Just bring enough water for the humans and eventually someone will come and help you. Keep in mind that most new phones have SOS that uses satellites to communicate, so being “off the grid” is not much of a thing anymore. In the old days, they used to have large water tanks on the side of the road in Death Valley because the gas-powered cars (which waste 60% to 80% of their fuel generating heat instead of useful work) would often overheat in the desert.
