If I have a capacitor that is bad and I have a replacement but the wires on the motor are both red and no markings so how do I determine which ones go to what terminals. This is on a Delta Bandsaw.

Bought some DPDT switches from TEMCO.. complete junk. The one I was using (bought the other as a spare) could not have had more than a hundred flips before it seized. Upon opening this was revealed to be due to one of the plastic cam things that are part of the one-piece molded rocker, and which had snapped off. Chinese-made junk. There's a reason they have historically used bakelite for nonconductive parts in switches, especially moving parts, that might be subject to heat from such as a contact made resistive due to arcing.. bakelite won't soften or melt. It will deteriorate over many decades, by which time it will have done its job.

Hi, great info on this I would like to ask do you make one that has 110 volts AC input and 230 volts AC output with a USA plug?

You said a capacitor should be about 1.5 times the supplied voltage. I had a pump that ran on 120 volts but the capacitor said 300VAC. Does the hp of the motor matter for the necessary VAC ? There are no markings on it but I think this motor is around 1/2 hp. Question 1) Was that capacitor VAC bigger than necessary ? (1.5 x 120v = 180) I messed up and let it run after it pumped out all the water. Once I unplugged it, it would no longer start or run unless I spun the impeller by hand, then it worked fine. Question 2) Can you clarify and explain to me if it was a start or a run capacitor, or combination ? It says only 8 micro farads, so I guess maybe that makes it a run capacitor. So then I guess sometimes a run capacitor is all that's needed to get the motor 'to start' ???? Because...why ?

I have a grizzly dust collector motor wired for 220. Seems the capacitor is bad. Opened it up and it’s a 300mfd, 120VAC capacitor. Am I right that that is the wrong capacitor? Possible that the motor was rewired for 220 and the capacitor was not changed? I got the unit used.

have a single phase century 5 hp 1800 rpm motor, has a 330 volt 408 to 480 mfd cap that blew. it runs with a 220v cap i have in stock, similar mfd range, is that ok to use in an emergency?

In simplest terms, if a motor is running slow, it could be because of bad run cap, not start cap, cause that won't running at all then right

At my job we had 48” fans and sometimes when we turned on a fan I noticed the fan would start up very slow. I would check and change out the capacitor and then the fan would start normally again.

Please clarify motor symptoms when centrifugal switch is stuck closed. Does the motor fail to turn and emit a grinding and humming sound - or does it run with that sound? My situation: Washing machine motor, taken loose from the machine but still on wire harness. Hums but doesn't turn. If I turn the shaft manually, it makes a few slow rotations and stops. Start capacitor looks good and measured capacitance is within spec. No bleed resistor across capacitor terminals - probably somewhere else within the washer.

I need a lil help.. I am trying to get a pool pump motor to run off of my dc to ac inverter and just hums and then the inverter shuts down. Hi - very useful and informative video, thank you. My motor is connected to a planer / thicknesser. There are two switches, one to use the planer and one for the thicknesser, when I select the planer, the motor runs fine, when I select the thicknesser, there is a sound similar to a trip switch clicking off and there is a low humming sound from the motor. From other forums relating to the machine in question it has been suggested that there maybe an issue with the start capacitor, so my question is, could this be possible? My feeling is that it won't be as the motor starts fine in planer mode. If I am wrong about that, do you have any suggestions please?
