Take her advice: Do NOT buy wristbands rom 3rd party sites before you get there. It's pretty much a scam - you've no idea if anyone you meet will even be going. You can get tickets to the official Union events. There is an industry dedicated to fleecing freshers by exploiting their fear of being left out by selling them tickets for stuff that won't be of any use to them or is a regular night that they can just turn up to anyway.
