Thanks for making this video! I'll be camping at Chipmunk later this year for the first time.
Thanks for watching. One of the rangers told me that they moved the latrine at Chipmunk since I was there and filmed it. I am not sure how far the move was.
Thank you for showing the steps and explaining at this speed. It's really easy to understand!
No problem! Thanks for watching.
How long did it take you to paddle to Mountain Lake?
It takes an average of 1.5 hours in my solo boat. I have done it an hour.
How far is deer 1 from a parking lot/road? We plan to camp soon but have young kids and don't want to be hiking multiple miles into the site.
I assume you are talking about backpacking to the site and not canoeing. The deer campsites are not really accessible by foot. At least not by trail. You would have to bushwhack from forest road 6320. From the road you can get there in 20 minutes. From the canoe landing they are only about 300 feet off the lake. If I misunderstood please let me know and will do my best to get you the correct info.
@@hemlocksandloons thank you, that helps a lot!
Awesome fun and never enough whiskey lol 🤣 great video
Thanks a ton for watching and I am glad you enjoyed.
@@hemlocksandloons I'm open to get up there yet this year I'm open work comes down so I get a little free time I miss canoeing
Work would be causing me the same problem if I did not live so close.
Where in world is this? Oregon? Area? Thanks. Michigan from quick research.
Yep, in the Upper Peninsula right on the Wisconsin border.
@@hemlocksandloons i recently moved to illinois and took my first fishing trip to northern Wisconsin couple years ago....I wound up staying in Ironwood....I was surprised in the morning to find out I was in Michigan. I'll have to get back up there. My son just moved to Oregon and i was researching fishing there... thought youtube might have sent the video which is why i first guessed Oregon. Yeah, too much information. Thanks for the video.
@MnNative no problem, thanks for watching
Is your canoe Kevlar? How much does it weigh? I was up canoe camping on Fathers day for 4 days on Mountain Lake, it was stormy but peaceful.
Yep it is kevlar and 27 pounds. It is a Northstar Northwind Solo. It seems like we have been getting rain every few days for over a month now,
I just got back from a couple nights on East Bear Lake.
@@hemlocksandloons I was just on East Bear also!
@user-ey1ik3xx7x I spent a few nights on East Bear the week before last. That video will be out on July 17th.
How long does it take you to get to Sylvania from your home? Must be close!
About 35 minutes or so.
Hello, walter, it's me Gavin😎👍
Oh hi Gavin
I use a clove hitch regularly but his is new. When would u prefer this over a clove hitch?
IT resists movement along the object it is ties to. For example you could tie to a limb or small log and pull it in the direction of its long axis.
@@hemlocksandloons I’m pretty sure you’re tying the variant of the rolling hitch that doesn’t hold as well for pulling parallel to the other line. The Bear Essentials had a great video showing the two types.
Enjoy the way you have been showcasing the Sylvania Wilderness. Best to you!
Thanks a ton! There is plenty more to come.
Yup. I like it. 😊
Thanks for watching!!
Im pretty sure thats an alpine butterfly
They are both loop knots but different. Here is the link to the Alpine Butterfly How to tie a butterfly knot czcams.com/users/shortsT8fOWyrYgN0?feature=share
Dislike this rubbish
Dumb
In what way?
Thats not a riggers loop It's a alpine butterfly
Different knot, here is a link to the alpine butterfly. czcams.com/users/shortsT8fOWyrYgN0
Rigger please!
😂 kool
Thanks!
Alpine butterfly
Different knot, here is a link to the alpine butterfly. czcams.com/users/shortsT8fOWyrYgN0
This knot is far less secure than an alpine butterfly (AKA lineman's knot).
I would agree with that statement.
We need to give you some subscribers and more
Thanks!
Great to be out on Crooked Lake with you, saw several of my favorite fishing spots. Many thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching!
Am I the first one to view this? I love watching what Loons do. They dive so deep. Great crop of Marsh Marigolds there at the end. Serenity is right! Thanks for the video.
Mike, I think you were. I hope others enjoy it as much as you did.
Thank you for this. I'm planning to do this for my first camping kayak trip
No problem. Thanks for watching!
Have you done a video about pike one on white fish? Just wanna know if it's a good spot for hammocks
Here is the link to that video. If I remember correctly I think you could get a couple in there. Pike 2 would be better. Whitefish Lake Campsite Tours: Sylvania Wilderness czcams.com/video/66nmEuMPfLk/video.html
💯🧨
Thanks for watching!
and thats it...just a lil bit more on your delivery...bc from our end it sounds like your speaking to children...one word at a time. be smooth and just talk normal...youll get it, and the audience will be better interested
Thanks, that is most likely because I am usually teaching knots to 7 and 8 year olds.
very nice views, thank you for sharing the tour, new sub and like 11
Thanks for watching and the sub. I am glad you enjoyed it.
Wolf is a great one, reminds me that I need to get online and book sights for the fall. Thanks for the video
I like Wolf as well. Thanks for watching!
Actually in the world of the building trades. Even the instructional manuals. It's called a "clove hitch"
This is a clove hitch with an extra wrap. Hence the different name.
@mccluskeyp is correct. It is a clove hitch with an extra wrap making is more secure and technically a different knot.
What's it good for? Is it easy to undo
As a sailor we use hitch knots every single day. Great for temporarily securing things, hanging up spare lengths of line, laundry bags etc. Tension on the line keeps it tight.
As long as you remove the tension on the knot it is easy to undo. @sirstinkmcwhiffington7039 has some good examples.
So a clove hitch with an extra tuŕn
Correct
Thank you for the video. I would like to request you make one about how to secure/ tie up extra rope. For when wend/movement causes it to blow all over the place. Like a tie down rope on a trailer.
Good suggestion. I will try to work it in with the next group I film.
Reminds me of the Paracordist and Tying It All Together from back in the day
Not sure I have seen that but I will have to look it up.
Couple of OG’s in the knot tying space on YT. Kevin and JD (respectively) are great guys and really helped me out growing up learning about knots.
I like how u actually EXPLAINED it.. most other channels just DO IT, and quickly too. Hope to see more like this..
I am glad that you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
Very nice loop
Thanks for watching.
Early june for me. Fishing pretty good about that time.
I am not much of a fisherman but I believe it is.
Any idea what that flower was at the beginning?
It is a Spring Beauty.
Aptly named!
Have you oiled your Badger paddle yet? Did mine last weekend and it turned out to be easier than I thought. I also saw that some campsites are already reserved every night for the entire permit season!!
No, I had everything ready to go and I thought I would make a video on pre-season paddle checks but I got busy and did not get the chance. They often fill up early. People will cancel and that is why they have the first come first serve sites.
I’m happy to see you’re able to get out. Spring has come.
I need to get out again this weekend if I can. Unfortunately the black flys are out and biting.
@@hemlocksandloons it’s up to you to get out there and feed the black flies. Take head net. I keep one stashed in a pocket of my paddling vest. The view on the water was very pretty.
I keep one in my pocket as well.
Oh man the place is looking good! This video got me pumped for my September trip! I can't wait, thanks for sharing
Hope you have fun on your trip. What part of the wilderness are you planning to visit?
I guess if shows the power of ice that rocks that size can be carried many miles and then just randomly dropped to the ground
I wonder if it was left in the bottom or did it roll down the hill and end up there.
I use ropes to tie stuff down on my motorcycle, crazy that I figured this knot out on my own, not knowing it's a proper temporary knot. Knot-knowing is half the battle.
Cool how things work out like that! Thanks for watching.
I watched to the bitter end.
Thanks for watching!
Nice review.
Thanks Kevin. It is always good to see you at the show.
River King cackle at 0:30
Funny!
Yea but a hitch has to go the same direction and you did it opposite of one another
I just rewatched the video to check and the 2 half hitches are correct. If they were opposite of each other you would have either a clove hitch or something that is not a knot. I guess I could be misunderstanding what you are saying.
You went under the first one then over the second one which is not the correct way for two half hitches.
@@hemlocksandloons for two half hitches they have to follow the same direction
Ok, it looks like you are correct. I watched it three more times and it appears I tied a Larks Head. Thanks for calling me out on it.
Awesome video
Thanks!
This is usually done with a chain but if u work for a broke ass company you will be using rope!
I have never seen it used with a chain. I've used to on pipe on radio towers. Thanks for watching!
