    Very clear presentation. I use this knot in all my connections keeping my cel phone attached to my belt by cordage, as well as my folding craft knife. I used it with all my caribiners for arborist work removing a 40 ft. tall tree from my lot. Most usable knot ever next to bowline

    I developed that hitch as an improvement over the taunt line hitch when i started climbing in the late 60s or early 70s, i don't remember exactly when i started teaching other young climbers. I have never used a stopper knot on it, but i almost immediately began tying a second to make it self-tending

    When rigging a line which is attached @ the base of a 🌳 do u ever tie off the end of the rigging line with a daisy chain hitch? I've had alot of control when I've used a large rigging ring attached above a branch that I tie with thar hitch. I make my cuts & the branch which is usually 20 feet long breaks loose & suspends parallel to the ground. If there's something below & I need more control I take an Amsteel rope& attach it to the end of the branch & let it fall to the ground. When I'm back on the ground I have that Amsteel line in one hand & the rigging line attached to the port-a-wrap in my other hand. I have fences which r in great condition that I'm always trying to avoid damage to. 😮😢

    I've done some trekking on some of the big peaks in the Cascades using conventional gear and techniques and I must say this is a fascinating hitch. The presentation was very thorough, clear, and concise. I relocated to Houston and saved one yard man who was trying to prune a very very tall palm without employing any gear whatsoever. At nearly 80, I still use climbing gear to work on my roof and occasionally to safely prune trees.

    Do you have any guidance on the thickness of the prussic vs. the thickness of the working rope? I have a couple of 8mm prussic and a 10.5mm prussic, but my rope is 10mm. Getting hyped up for spring and the urge to practice the climb is kicking in.

      You want your prusik to be thinner in diameter than your climbing line, that way it will bite better.

    Very nice. Many use just a double fisherman but I like this version since that double on one side three on the other is just a nice configuration I see alot. I usually always have a sewn eye that I use whether it's with a micro pulley that is self tending or my DMM Hitchclimber Eccentric which has to have a sewn end since the termination knot could leave u with a dangerous situation 😮.

    I like the presentation that was easy to follow. But if u were going to go through the trouble of doing a split-tail it would be nice to make it self tending. Many times I have limbs in the way from the ground up to the height that I need to obtain. I always go with an open system. I keep a closed prusik on my saddle so I can make it self tending. Only takes seconds to incorporate the tail end to a prusik & saves u minutes on a climb. Would appreciate a follow up with the climb.

    • @jencarroll49
      @jencarroll49 Před 8 měsíci

      That's the Pfanner Protos helmet. I actually won that one in an online giveaway a couple years back. But they are available at most arborist equipment suppliers. They've become a quite popular model in the arboriculture industry. More on the expensive side but nicely balanced and my favourite feature is that the ear muffs tuck up inside the helmet so they don't get caught on tree branches while climbing or using throwline.
