My daughter hate kumon a lot thus we stop. 😊 We been just there for 2 months. Then we stop. She prefer to stay at home and allow me to become a tutor. I know how to teach and now we are bonding by tutoring her in math subject

Yes. Its worth it for kids who are toddlers.

Kumon is not a tutorial center. You are right. They are just a learning center

Kumon is it is not self learning there is a lot of doing work by themselves but the learning is not self learning in so far as a child cannot figure out a math problem they have never encountered on their own. So really Kumon briefly teaches the child the skill (If they do not know it) and the the rest is repetitive independent math work that gradually gets harder until a new concept is introduced and then rinse and repeat. Also, Kumon requires that the child do the math using their prefered method so if the child knows another method to get to the answer Kumon will not accept thoes answers as correct so again there is no self learning, just Kumon's method rinse and repeat. Finally goals are not set by the child the are set by the Kumon instructor. What I do think is great about Kumon is the repetitive nature of the work, there is something to be said about having assigned homework daily that builds skills, in school a topic may be taught for 2 weeks for 45 minutes a day (if that) whereas my child will have similar work daily for about a month or more (30 minutes a day).Deeper understanding comes after a student has mastered the basic skills.

I recently just finished kumon and all of the things that I learned there gave me a grade in math above 96 on high school (Grade 7 - 10), i would say its effective, but what I would say is the amount of time you can possibly take on a single worksheet. Especially when you reach Level M - O. That's why most people stop after level L because of how long kumon can take, more time there, means more money to spend. But for me personally, after finishing M, N, and O, it helped me so much. Especially Trigonometry. It makes me see Trigonometry as an easy topic. I'm currently in Grade 11 and I'm feeling pretty good and fresh on their maths. This can allow me to study other subjects. And I didn't need to study. For example, I have a Science and Math Exam next week, I can prioritize my science more since I already mastered most of the lessons taught by kumon. 😁

They don’t tell u step by step all they give u is more of a diagram that is poorly written

Thank you so much for this...I recently received this exact same information after a 2 hour assessment with an EXPENSIVE tutoring program. My son is SEVERAL years behind. He's been in public school since Kindergarten and this is our first year home schooling. Even though he was an average math student in school, he began expressing how difficult math was for him at home. Turns out he is at a 2nd grade level math. I'm glad i took him out of school.He was being pushed through with know no understanding...now we can practice privately at home while he gets caught up. I have Faith he will do better. I love being kumon completer.. kumon taught me how NOT TO BE LAZY in reading the example and how i need to understand it deeply before they gave more challenging questions. And i love how they move step by step not like usual math lesson (in indonesia, it was as hell.. a KG A students needs to solve addition & substraction) and usually the text book gave us a random number (i.e 2+5 then 10+2 then 15+3) while in KUMON they will give 1+1 1+2 1+3 1+4. It will train us WE CAN because really understand. Not by memorizing it. Sooo when the math gets harder, its no problem for me. Coz i already know the concept.. and kumon not only give us FORMULAS (like pythagoras, algebra, etc).. they even explain how the formula was created.. hope my review helps.. i was 8th grade started from B grade and i graduated from kumon at 10th grade at level Q. It needs 2 years and 2 months to pass that 25 levels. But my friend needs 5 years to complete and another student needs 10 years.. good & bad side if you are not commited enough.. 😅

My daughter was diagnosed with dyscalculia. She doesn’t get negatives and positives. She cannot get order of operations. She cannot remember the rules. I feel so bad for because she’s stuck. She may get something briefly but by the next day the information I gone. She also has the issues with determine right from left and has balance issues. If you have any info on how I can help her with positives and negatives and order of operations…please let me know.

I have dyscalculia, and I’m also very good in mathematics. I have a master degree in econometrics thanks to the calculator. I cannot add, subtract, and multiply by head. Also can’t remember numbers, like my telephone, my bank account , or the 3 digit number of my debit card. So dyscalculia isn’t always about being bad in mathematics. Sometimes it’s a problem with numbers and simple number operation.

Kumon is not that expensive where I live but cheaper is not always bad just like more expensive doesn't always mean better either. I feel for those under grade 4 hiring a tutor is not a good return on investment though.

My kid is so scared of failure. It doesnt help that she had NOT failed at alot of things. She can motivated to do things but when it comes to Education- she skates by- I dont think she really understand until she fails at something. Im tired. Exhausted feeling depressed her father not talking to her or seemingly interested in her goals does not help.
