The exhaust air does not get hot enough to damage the screen. Enjoy the summer!
Hello thank you for your helpful video. With the screen being in place, have you had any damage to it from the hot air exhaust? I've read that screens can get damaged due to the hot air. My screen is next-to-impossible to remove, so if I can just put the exhaust over the screen as you've done, I hope it will work without damaging the screen. Many thanks.
You should have went long-wise with the hole because you don't have to open the window that much for the exhaust you went with wise for security reasons also if you're on a first floor install inside bars from the inside in case somebody cooks or tries to break in the bars will stop them home Depot the weight of the holes will bring the head of the exhaust down and pop it out you need support for the hose to lift it up to take off the weight of the polycarbonate because of the vibration it will loosen up you must take the weight off the hose
Thank you so much
You're doing the Lord's work.
Thank you
That's best solution I've seen so far, seeking around for the solution to the similar case

You're a genius, and this is super helpful!
I tried your method but couldn’ t get polycarbonate so I used a piece of wood paneling. The hose is heavy and the Velcro sticky backing comes apart when it gets too warm. What could I do to hold the hose up so it’s not so heavy?
Some people have used plexiglass when they couldn’t find polycarbonate. I wouldn’t recommend paneling for any aspect of my solution.
Purchased: August 2022 - still works GREAT! czcams.com/users/postUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn I live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment.I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!
No, you don’t cut a hole in the screen. The air from the vent hose blows THROUGH the screen.
Best I’ve seen.
Thanks so much this was easy to follow and do
No. The polycarbonate piece is placed OVER the screen, so the hot air exhausts through the screen. No bugs!
So you cut a hole in the screen?
You are the best! This is exactly what I was looking for and having a woman explained that helps it make more sense
That's brilliant. Would have been cool to kind of hear possible prices for for the carbonate window screen.
The polycarbonate is not a window screen. It is a clear piece of rigid “plastic” that fits over the window screen. The price will vary by the size of your screen, so I can’t give you an estimated price. Call your local glass company and give them your screen dimensions. They can tell you the price.
Very helpful. Thank you
How much did it cost for the sheet?
Fantastic very smart 🤓 👍
Great video and idea !! I used quarter inch PVC sheet, much easier to cut and shape if you don't care about not seeing out the window.
Stop saying Um !
You need Jesus
…Full disclosure: I was the guy singing. This was requested in a non-ironic way. It is not part of our regular set.
Love it!
Fucking awesome!
Greetings from the UK where the weather rarely gets uncomfortable, however last year was damn awful during parts of the summer (40°c plus😩). Just invested in a portable air con and couldn't think how to create a sealed area around the casement window until I happened across this. This is a brilliant idea, thanks so much 👍😊

Thank you so much for posting this. Gave me so much hope for this coming summer as I share a house where people don’t like ac and I have the same window in my bedroom. Incredible post!!!
What specifically is the Scotch strip product? I could not see it in the shot of the packaging. Thanks.
The box just says Scotch. If you watch the video I made a year later, I found that Velcro actually does work better. Please watch that one before starting your project.
Brilliant. Truly. I just picked up my polycarbonate sheet today. The plastic piece is installed so tight it's incredible. Your idea turned out so perfectly. I didn't have to use the velcro because my polycarbonate sheet is exactly the same size as my screen so my screen clips are holding it nice and tight. I am so grateful for your clever idea!! thanks!
Wow. I used almost everything about your video
Awesome! How did you attach the hose to the poly?
The hose fitting that lines up with the matching hole in the polycarbonate has notches. Push the fitting into the hole and move it to the left or right to lock it in place.
The velcro also allows the plastic sheet to flex when it gets hot. Is the adhesive heat resistant?
The Velcro I used has been on for 2 years, and has held very well. The adhesive is impressive.
@@fixerlady8274 - is the window facing north? How hot does it get there?
@@rob4197 we have this system in 3 windows, with 2 facing west and one facing north. We live in NE Minnesota, and temperatures rarely reach 100.
Walmart here fixed the problem by not selling/giving the plastic bags. You can get a garbage can designed to use those plastic bags ( use paper flyers to line the plastic bag).
I connected mine to a chimney. Simple neat solution.
Brilliant! Thank you from the UK!
Badass solution!
Oh man, I wish I could find this video earlier. This is such a brilliant way! But may I ask how much does it cost for the material and the cut?
Cost depends on the size of the window. Polycarbonate is more expensive than plexiglass, but it’s stronger. I think we paid around $70 for our window.
Good 2know Umm Ahh Umm Ahh Umm Umm!
Thank you Pat for sharing, it is a great idea! I wonder what is the thickness of the polycarbonate sheet that you used? Thanks again.
When you bring the template to the glass company, they will choose the right thickness.
Great Solution, we may adapt that for our AC System.......Thank You Kindly
So painful listening to this. Maybe find an editor and delete the hums and ahhs
You must be a very unhappy person. You need Jesus.

Well, I'm so glad I found this video. I followed instructions to a T with one exception. Instead of cutting a hole for the hose, we used the slider with a hole that came with the air conditioner on the bottom. Therefore we just had to cut a rectangular piece of acrylic for the top part. Used gorilla tape to secure the space between the two. Used the velcro as directed and it worked like a charm! Our window is in a place where no one sees it so not as worried about aesthetics. Great video!
I am planning to do exactlly same!!
This was a super helpful video, thank you so much for sharing!
How do you keep the frame of hole in place to attach hose?
This is absolutely genius!!!!
Pat this was SO helpful!!! Where are you geographically?? We called 3 glass companies and no one would help us. We may try a window company next (thank you Dorothy Leonard!) Or if you're not far away from Northern Virginia, we may take a road trip to your glass company because their work is just beautiful!
Long road trip😁. I’m in northern Minnesota. Hope you find a good glass company. Try asking at a hardware store.
Am I correct in saying the window has to stay open? Also you can't use this technique on a ground floor window for this reason correct? Not burglar proof.
The window mechanism works to open and close the window as usual, but when you are venting hot air out, the window must be open slightly so the hot air escapes to the outside. Using it on the first floor is up to you. I do.
Great! I just wonder what about the moisture droplets dripping from the hose? Will it stain on the external structure>
That has not been an issue.
my overdramtic doggy thanks you!!! hes exhausted in this 74 degree cloudy weather lol
