That is because both Russia, Bosnia and Croatia are all Slavic the countries share a lot of the same words and names and because of that the words and names will sound similar

But Slavic is a very loose term as a multitude of cultures have passed through the area bounded by the Don River or even the Volga to Crete and to the Dodacanese and back towards the Istra Peninsula. From Millerovo to Kumanovo and from the Euphrates and the Tigris up to the Karawenken Mountain Range and around almost to the Czech Sudaten Land if not to it in one form or another. Plus East to West over vast distances over the Steppe Country. Places can even end up with two official names like Monastir (Bitola).@@JLisbored

@@RangaTurk What I meant is that the language's of Croatia, Bosnia and Russia are all Slavic. the difference is that a couple words are different and they use a different alphabet, however I don't know a lot of Croatian myself but my family members do and they have said that they can partially understand Russian because of knowing Croatian and as I said this causes the names of people and places to be very similar between Croatia, Bosnia and Russia.

Cyrillic writing is all over the Balkans in one form or another with Romania being a standout exception. More Roman-looking than contemporary Italian itself with the way many words and names are written. Venetian architecture also has Moorish influences but that came from the direction of the west, not from the south. There was also a north-south direction of cultural interaction and influence across the whole region that I forgot to mention with traders from the Baltic State areas making it as far south as the Aegean Sea in some instances.@@JLisbored

@@RangaTurk Bosnia and Croatia use the Latin alphabet and Russia uses the Cyrillic alphabet however the languages are still similar. The Cyrillic alphabet can be quite easily translated to the Latin alphabet and when it is then for many words and names they will be near identical between Bosnian, Russian and Croatian.

Yeah Ottomans at first pushed further however that did not last long and the modern border was created.
