【D23】Siaosyueshan Travel Information Station
Get off at this station to admire the renowned Tianchi (Heavenly Pond) and the Sacred Tree in theDasyueshan National Forest Recreation Area. Tianchi, located on the southern ridge of Xiaoxueshan at an elevation of 2,600 meters, is a pristine, mirror-like lake reflecting the surrounding green peaks. The Xueshan Sacred Tree, located at 49.5 km point along the Daxueshan Forestry Road, can be reached by walking from Tianchi through a mixed forest of Taiwan hemlock, Chinese white pine, and Taiwan rhododendron, where this majestic and vibrant ancient tree stands tall and proud. The Xiaoxueshan section of the trail features two distinct forest types: Hemlock forests and warm-temperate broadleaf forests. The upper part of the trail is characterized by hemlock forests, with the understory predominantly covered by Yushan bamboo, known for its robust underground stems.

大雪山國家森林遊樂區座落在雪山山脈西南向主稜的後段，海拔高度由最高的小雪山走向西南的鞍馬山、船型山及稍來山延伸至約1000公尺的稍來溪溪谷。早年為台灣中部地區重要的林場，森林植生豐富，分暖、溫、寒三種森林帶，各有獨特的生態林相。此外，大雪山亦是賞鳥天堂，林道旁、樹林間，隨處可見冠羽畫眉、白耳畫眉、黃山雀等，園區內更有罕見的台灣帝雉、藍腹鷴、竹雞在林間漫步。
